I will not be one of them. Shovel Knight was a character I wanted, but never expected to have, and recency effect or not, and regardless of whether or not other characters "deserve to get in more" (I still miss you K. Rool </3) I think that Shovel Knight could be a lot of fun, would fit into smash spectacularly, and okay fuck it I'm just really excited because I loved Shovel Knight
There's something special about "pleasant surprise" characters that makes them even better than "surefire" ones. Greninja and Pokemon trainer specifically I thought were really awesome because they're welcome additions, but who [I]really[/I] thought that Greninja or Ivysaur would EVER be playable? I dunno, I think that's cool

That was just cuz of (probably false?) rumors of a Shovel Knight amiibo. That webpage that was shown just used a fan mock-up because there were no images

As the video says, the stars align quite nicely, but that may just be a coincidence. But hey Yatch Club Games and Nintendo seems to have a good relationship.
We talked many times about the possibility of anyone being a fighter and the possibilities are so large it never really went anywhere. Everyone has their chances, I think that's about all we can debate. There's always the possibility that Shovel Knight was in the works even before the ballot was taken in consideration, and if that's true it's really good news because that means Nintendo is open to more obscure characters. (Shantae wink wink)
I'm like, 100% sure that indie characters aren't going to get in. SK isn't even out in Japan yet (still) and all the art is from the smashified thing.
If there's one indie character that should win, it's Shantae.

i feel like quote from cave story makes the most sense if they're gonna add an indie character. sure shovel knight is popular, and a really creative character from a good game that would be really cool, but i don't think he's nearly as deserving. quote is way more iconic, cave story was realy influential, and it's a japanese game, that also happens to be really popular in western countries. also the game has been on nintendo platforms.

I do think that there are other characters (K. Rool, Banjo/Kazooie, Wonder Red, etc.) who deserve to be in Smash more than Shovel Knight.
That said, I'd fucking lose it if Shovel Knight got in. He'd be a goddamn amazing (if a little unwarranted) addition to the cast.
The only thing I really fear about Shovel Knight being in is that they likely wouldn't give him a moveset that serves him justice aside from the obvious choice of down air. I really hope they talk to Yacht Club about how to make it work and don't try to bruteforce a unique-yet-unrelated-to-his-personality moveset like they did with Little Mac.
I'd love Shovel Knight to get in as much as the next guy, but he's not really very Nintendo.
Shantae got her start back on the GBC and DSi, so she'd make a bit more sense.
Still, I'd love to see either, or even both.

i wonder if they'll allow partners to stream it aswell. i kinda doubt it but we'll see i guess. nintendo probably wouldn't allow it if they're not allowing it on twitch.
I can definitely agree with Quote having the best shot, mostly because Cave Story has appeared numerous times on Nintendo systems for years now, in both the east and west.

I don't agree with that at all. In the literal sense of what platforms he's on, then sure, Shovel Knight was released on Xbox One and PS4 (later than on Nintendo systems). But all of the inspiration for Shovel Knight comes from classic NES games. True, not all first-party games made by Nintendo, I'd say it's mostly Mega Man he was inspired by, with some Castlevania as well and I believe there was some Zelda inspiration too. But he is still very much a tribute to the NES, which is part of why I think him being in Smash would be incredible. I don't believe it has even the slightest chance of happening, though.

Well, I did mean in terms of platforms- he's NES as hell when it comes to design and gameplay.
That and he's crossed over with all sorts of things already (Battletoads and God of War off the top of my head), so I could see it happening.
