WiP on my first skin.
I'm just going to recolor different parts of the gun, no patterns or anything fancy.

Yeah P-Body's pretty cute.
Chemical Alia your stuff is pretty neato burrito! I'm not a fan of patterns in general but I really like your stuff.
I wasn't satisfied with my previous bulldozer pattern so I decided to put in the effort and make it an actual custom paint job and match the shitty UVs. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Did you make the pattern yourself? It looks awsome, any chance you might share the pattern?

Its pretty simple if you look closely, you can make it with the polygonal lasso (selection) tool in photoshop. Just choose the right color pallet.
Did you make the pattern yourself? It looks awsome, any chance you might share the pattern?
I'll share it once I've created the actual workshop items, sure.
I wanted some guys in suits with masks in CS:GO. Not necessarily the Payday guys, but something like it. The plan was to make sure I could get player replacements working and then try to make a new team that could be included in custom maps and used in the .KV files or whatever. This was the concept, using a combination of models from other games. Obviously this shouldn't be included in custom maps now (unless they're released here and not intended for FPSBanana/the workshop) because I didn't model most of it, but I intended to model the masks myself and such and make up a suit model so that it would be all my content and could be put up on FPSBanana and all that. I got as far as modeling the alien mask myself, but the rest are from Max Payne 3 and the bodies are clearly from Payday 2 (I didn't have a theme for the masks originally but I decided on a horror theme later on, except I didn't get around to replacing the pig mask) I also intended to have jiggleboned ties and first person hands on the custom suits but didn't get around to that. My 3DS Max broke and I am too busy to fix it so I probably won't get around to doing the version that I wanted, so I'll release the concept here in case anybody wants to replace the professional team with them. I showed these off in the CSGO thread awhile ago and I hate when people show off potentially cool stuff and then never release it, especially if I don't think I'll ever get around to finishing it properly. Better something than nothing, yes?
Download
Paste the models and materials folders into your csgo folder, open up pak01_dir.vpk in Notepad++ or whatever you normally would use to edit .vpk files, and replace all instances of tm_professional with zm_professional or something with the same amount of characters. You won't be able to play on servers with sv_pure on or whatever because I don't think there's proper VPK mod support yet (Will there ever be?).
This is an old picture, it was before I replaced monkey man with alien man, but it shows all the people. I also added a duffle bag to pig man and alien man since these pictures. Also intended to have body armor on one or two of them to make them as varied as possible. Floating magazines were fixed since this picture.

I don't remember if I fixed alien man's missing shadow. My CS:GO hasn't been updated in awhile so I can't check.

Here are the source files in case you want to do your own replacements/custom playermodels or edit these guys. Since my 3DS Max is broken I'm not 100% sure if I included the right Max scene files (I used Max 2010) because I usually save my scenes with pretty vague names and can't open them to see what's in them. Also includes SMDs with .QC files and batch compile files.
I also never got around to testing if custom standalone player models would work, but I don't see why it wouldn't if you compile them as a new name and put it in the .kv file for your map.
[editline]1st November 2013[/editline]
Almost forgot about this, but I was also thinking about having the masks as seperate models that could be easily put onto the suit guys after the fact so changing masks or making your own could be very simple and easy and could be easily mixed and matched with updates later on. Free mask DLC, if you will. Also never got around to testing it but am 99% sure it would work.

I presume you use greenscreen for them shots, but any tips on how to use it effectively?
I never have any luck with using it.
Chroma key it out. Doesn't work so well with green skins, but when I talked to Jeep/Personguy about that he said he'd "pass it along" so maybe more colors. But yeah make the window as big as you can and just use a chroma key plugin to snip it.

Its trick to remove all the green from the weapon.
When taking screenshots, csgo default format is jpeg (low compression) mking green mix with the weapon texture.
to fix this, bind a key to take tga screenshots (much more quality) with this command:
bind "key" screenshot
now, when in photoshop, the chroma green is now easier to remove.

Supposed to look like a lustrous milled nickel, "worse" conditions supposed to be more tarnished and generally more dirty.

Yeah, they're all greenscreen shots. I tried in vain to remove AA from the workbench screen (apparently the game options don't affect it), and I gave up.
So, being a huge technical nerd that I am, I experimented around until I got something that 90% of the time, worked every time. =P
Breakdown of what I do for those who might get some use out of it:
(Note: I use CS5, so I have no idea if all the features used are present in lower versions. Click images for full res.)
1) Obviously, I take the shot. I have 1920x1080 screen, so the green screen shot comes out around somewhere 1580x890 when the window is fullscreened. Resolution never hurts.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/nmBbmPY.jpg[/t]
2) I crop the greenscreen and then begin the channel voodoo. Go to Image > Calculations.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/hUHtYVy.jpg[/t]
3) With the greenscreen layer as the source for both, you want to set the first source to be Red channel. Make sure to invert it (checkbox). Second source is the green channel. Blending mode is Linear Burn (kills as much light as it can without manual corrections.) Calculations usually outputs the result into an Alpha channel (you can tweak this), so get the mask out of the Alpha (check the Channels tab) and back into our layer stack for editing.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WNWjImt.jpg[/t]
You'll end up with what is essentially a very precise (inverted) layer mask that is 80% there. If you don't know what a layer mask is, Google it.
4) Depending on your monitor brightness, you'll notice that the body itself isn't completely black. We need to fix that so it masks right.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/yxOgCuV.jpg[/t]
5) Ctrl+L to bring up the Levels dialog.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/2DM44bC.jpg[/t]
6) Use the black dropper (leftmost of the three) and select the brightest spot on the gun's body you can find, ideally until the Levels graph reads flat like so:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/U1KWUQn.jpg[/t]
Now we have a perfectly black body with very precise borders that even account for AA.
7) Invert the mask. Photoshop masks use white = visible, black = transparent.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/jlQ6LXx.jpg[/t]
8) Use the proper inverted mask on the greenscreen shot. You'll get something that is 99% there, except for a subtle case of green borders.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/o6uHqRa.jpg[/t]
9) Luckily, if it's subtle, then Refine Edge can usually get rid of it (it doesn't work so great and tends to be destructive when the edges you're removing are large and pronounced).
With the mask selected in the Layers pane, bring up the Refine Edge dialog. These are the settings I use to get rid of those last bits of green. Feel free to tweak them to your tastes, these are just the ones that have worked for me.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/sBUfX7E.jpg[/t]
And that's it. You now have a crisp non-green edge on that gun. Apply the mask and use the gun however.
Finally, feel free to use a method that is less work - I'm a bit of a perfectionist. =P (Granted, this takes all of one minute once you get it down).
After figuring out the tutorial and how the workshop handles RGB colors and all that, I whipped something out which I quite like the result:
