I hate to say it, but I think they've made it too easy to make things for CS:GO. There's so much stuff being submitted it's impossible to track down anything of worth and even get a chance of having 50+ votes.

I read the FAQ but since I'm only doing simple shit so far I don't want any of my stuff removed.

I ended up having 'Golden Gun' on paste just because of how many times I was typing it.

The barrier to entry is quite low, now there's a content curation problem. Not to mention the possible use of deviant art brushes. (Just assuming.)

I must have been missing them all, because it all pretty much ends up looks like the same crap page after page now.
As long as there's a collective that produces quality skins at a consistent rate (i.e us or whoever), technically it should eventually weed out all the crap. The same as with the TF2 Workshop, people's ideas of what's good and bad will change when they see an equal distinction between quality.
Valve has sort of made a mess here. I really have no idea on how they are going to weed through this crap and find anything worth shipping.

If you are doing simple, repeating pattern, textures can be 1024 or even 512px.
Is it somehow possible to create a, I don't know, transparent pattern? I'd like to create a similiar result like the Dragon Tattoo skin, but I'm not really able to make additional textures, if I only want my object on the weapon alone, without changing the other textures. The object should also only appear one time on the weapon. I mean, the Glock 18 skin also only has the tattoo thing.

A piece of advice for anyone else trying that out: - You have to use the alpha channel to define the specular map, and only values 0 - 127 are used for the specular. Values above 127 will actually be used to mask out parts of your finish. - Lower values will make for generally more reflective surfaces while higher values will make for small, very focused highlights. You need really low values (up to 10 or so) for max shinyness, above that it drops off pretty steeply.
