Hey all,
Got an all new trailer to show you for Spark Rising! We're down to our last week on Kickstarter, and could really use your support. Usually the last week can result in doubling of contributions so we still got a good shot at our goal! More than ever, we need your support!

Hey all!
We got a 48 hour live stream of the final hours of our Kickstarter campaign! Come say hi on Twitch.tv!
We'll show all new cool stuff, and have some fun with it!
Sweet jebus... I been up 24 hours straight now... Still got 31 hours to go for this live stream...
Congrats on getting your goal, guys! I am extremely proud of you. Yes, I was worried you wouldn't make it, but I was always really hoping you would. Selling your house shows tremendous dedication, and I am very happy you made your goal.
I agree, congrats! Bit confused about that second stretch goal, though. So one rank of backers is just going to get a permanent pet that makes them stronger or helps them in combat? Isn't that kind of pay to win?
yeah, good job guys. this game looks really promising. the second trailer is very creative and is very informative. i'm excited for this.
Super happy you reached your goal

Pay to win? I guess if you want to think it like that. Or you can think of it like us thanking people who are willing to part with their hard earned money to support us during this early stage.

But you're just handing them over stat boosts.
Why not just make the kickstarter pet have balanced stats compared to non-kickstarter pets you can get later in the game?
Hey all!
We got a live stream going on now on Twitch! Brainstorming ideas for something we call Project: Gaiden!

Please donate today to the Philippines and get 2 free games.
The massive Super Typhoon Haiyan has torn through the Philippines and devastated the whole country. +10,000 are feared dead. The founder of Wicked Loot, John Master Lee, and his wife were personally affected by the storm as their family is in the Philippines. He was able to finally reach them today, and they are safe. We’re uncertain of our extended family at this stage… Seeing how this has affected us so personally, we decided to help out as many people as we can.
So I'm offering up copies of my game Spark Rising to anyone that can donate. In addition, you get a free copy of Gravi from my good friends at Hashbang Games. Just click on through for details. Normally both games would cost around $30. You can get both for just $5, which is cheaper than either game has ever been offered before.
If you can't donate, we'd at least appreciate an upvote for our post on Reddit to help spread the word!

Alrighty! Time for an update!
So we been working on something we codenamed: Project: Retro Gaiden. If you are familiar with the concept of "gaiden", it's a side quest of sorts along a long journey. Our long journey is Spark Rising! For us, we wanted to create something within the Spark Rising engine and put it out there. Something that was different than what you expected. So here's Retro Rising RAMPAGE!
So why create something like this? Why not launch the early alpha version of the game? In a way, this is an early alpha. But the challenges of most early alphas is by nature they are raw and buggy. And they aren't fun to play through. Great for a developer to test things out, not so great for gamers. So we decided to package together a few key features we wanted to test out, but launch it in a way that let you play it, and it would feel like fun.
We also wanted to show you how you can create stuff far beyond our initial sci fi designs.
This mini-game is still rather raw. Graphics are raw. But it is fun!
The idea was to make a fast paced arcaded game that let us test out such things as enemy AI, character movement, and destructible terrain. Our early backers for Spark Rising will get this gaiden for free. We're evaluating whether to release it more publicly for everyone else to play.
You can follow our development of the gaiden game here!
In the meantime, check out these screens and concept inspired by 8-bit games of yore!
Hey all! So it's been a while since I had a chance to post. Holidays, getting fat, and game designing and all that jazz.
One reason why it's been nose to the grindstone is because I just released a demo dubbed Retro Rising RAMPAGE. You can play it for free here if you like. It's a short game, more of a diversion than anything else. But there was a method to this madness: I'm using this "gaiden game" to test out features for a much bigger game I'm working on, Spark Rising. In fact, RRR (for short) was build in our Spark Rising sandbox game engine.
RRR (for short) is a FPS arcadey homage to 8-bit NES. The idea was to test out various features in our voxel game and see what works and what doesn't. It's been a fun experiment, and I hope you enjoy it!

I could really use some feedback, good and bad, especially around the core game mechanics. Movement? Jumping? Shooting? Visuals? How does it all feel?
Hey all,
So the last update I talked about Gaiden 1, and mini-project within Spark Rising where we had fun creating a retro themed level. This latest Gaiden changes things up a bit and is more sandboxy in nature. We cobbled together some build tools so you can create your own map now.
If you want to check it out, download it, play it, and provide some feedback, well, that would be super duper. Feedback we need.

On a quick note, since these are Facepunch forums, I been a long time fan of Gmod (you can probably see some of the influences in Spark Rising!) and just recently picked up Rust as well. I don't think many people realize how small of a team FP is and for them to have such big visions but build it one step at a time requires such long term commitment. Not many devs commit themselves to the community like they do, and even though Rust is raw as hell (man... it was impossible for me to find my friends on the same server...) I know they will work their way towards magic. My hats off to you.
Things have been developing at such a rapid clip that I'm sorta losing track of what I shared so far!
So just to recap:
Spark Rising was greenlit for Steam! Wheee!
Spark Rising was selected for showcase at GDC at The MIX event!
All this has an interesting affect on our launch plans, all for the better. But I'll go into all that next time. What I really wanted to show you all are new screenshots!
So I need some feedback. When we first started this little project, we were clearly inspired by Minecraft and even Cube World when it came to the visuals. We started with a bright, ultra saturated look, and as we progressed, and the game play became more distinct, we wanted to push the art style in a new direction too. We been experimenting with a new color palette, and love to hear what you think. Keep in mind that the look will continue to evolve, so nothing is set in stone.
So we created a teaser trailer for Spark Rising several moons ago, and thought it would be fun to go back and redo that trailer with the updated visual style. The art still isn't finalized but it's neato to see how the game has evolved over the last several months!

from what i saw, im digging the color palette feature, it would be cool to see some sort of color wheel to go along with, adding limitless options for color choice, unless that is already there and i missed it. the project seems to be coming along nicely!
I wonder why this thread is so quiet. Anyways, I've kickstarted the game, haven't really had a chance to try out the demos yet, but from the trailers and gameplay I've seen, it looks like it's quite fun. Plus I've never seen a developer so dedicated to a game that they sold their home to finance it. Keep up the good work!

This is something we'll have to explore in earnest at some point. Right now you can select from a palette of 256 colors, which can be comprised of any colors you want. But quite frankly, I think it's a bit daunting for the average person to figure out which color to chose from. One idea I had was to start off with a simpler 128 color palette, with option to unlock the more robust 256 color palette, and even use full color sliders like you do in Photoshop.
Anyways, yeah, something we'll explore more one day!
Download the Gaiden 3 demo here!
Wanted to share our latest demo level, something we dub Gaiden 3: Titan Rising! If you see the screenshot sample below, you'll see what we can mean by "titan". It's a prototype boss we're playing with.
This demo is limited to one level, and you can't build anything. But it does give you a sense of how a battle scenario unfolds. All of this was created in-game, similar to how you would build something in Minecraft. Except that the purpose to build is ultimately to destroy:) And I should note, this is a pre-alpha build, so everything is very raw still.
Looks sweet as hell, downloading now.
You can now buy Spark Rising on Steam Early Access!
Wow... Spark Rising to date has been successfully Kickstarted, Greenlit, showcased at GDC, and now our moment of truth... we hope we made a game worthy of your attention! Or at least I hope I made a game that didn't suck so bad you would quit gaming all together.
In many ways, this is just the beginning, so I'm looking forward to the "real" journey ahead. So much of the feedback we been getting from fans has been quite honestly really impressive. Don't let anyone tell you that gamers are all just a bunch of trolls. Well... maybe we are... but even trolls got some good ideas!
I can only hope we can be as cool as Gmod or Rust one day.
Hey all!
So we got around to making a vlog about how the game's terrain has evolved quite a bit. It's pretty fascinating :) At least I like to think so!

So I'm pretty excited because it's getting close to the next build update which we'll release publicly. It's been a long time coming... Right now, I'm just play testing a lot, making sure the new game engine don't break none. Naturally it does! So I made a vid about it. Figure I might as well have fun sharing some of the wackier bugs and glitches. The team is working hard on fixing stuff so much kudos to them!
FUNNY GLITCHES AND BUGS!

BTW - Sorry about my old posts on this thead and all the broken images. Website went down and I lost the archive... I'll have to just go back and delete them from my old posts just so things don't look so broken!
Oh and for fun, I'm giving away a bunch of my gaming swag as I do some spring cleaning. Check out the vid for more details. There are some fun treasures I collected over the years. So hard to get rid of:)

Pleased to finally share with you Spark Rising Early Access v 2.0! This was a long time coming, many months of rebuilding our game engine, changing up mechanics, and establishing a stronger foundation for the game. The game ongoing is a reflection of concepts the crew and I put together in our last 4 Gaidens, and we love the overall direction!
Rather than list the 1001 things we completed in a way-too-long-changelog, here are the more noteworthy changes:
All new terrain that allows for significantly larger maps
Travel from world to world
New movement mechanics
New grapple hook
New enemy AI system
New power ups
Boost system lets you collect crystals to charge up super powers
New shaders that give the world a more vibrant ultra colorful look
Winter theme
Reintroduction of the Die Guys!

Like Rust, we had to completely scrap our old game engine and start anew. We kept the legacy version available to play, but ongoing we'll be focusing on conquest mode!
And thanks for being so patient this past year as we try new things, break a lot of things, and giving us some great feedback.
Here, have a couple of free game codes for Steam. If you take one, please indicate so!
Peace!

I took the second key, played legacy for a bit, very fun, the scale of the game is just great. Might benefit from an FOV slider however, field of view feels really cramped. Other than that, it's pretty good!

A FOV slider is a pretty good idea. Adding to our list to do!
how on earth were all the keys taken except for the first one, thats like the logical opposite
thanks though
