Yeah, it reminds me of the Gothic games, the third being the one I recall the most. Very difficult to begin, but eventually opens up and becomes rewarding.

Here's an old collection of screenshots I took while undertaking one of the best COOP missions in Arma (fuck that, any game) I've ever played. I played with 2 friends.
The basic mission outline is, you have about 12 Force Recon badasses armed to the teeth with weapons, a Seahawk to transport them in, and an AH-IZ Cobra gunship to back you up. There are 3 main objectives, and the mission spans about half of Chernaurus. You've got to find and deactivate a suitcase nuke before it goes off.

The first step was to find intel in a compound, so we assaulted it by landing on the roof with the Seahawk and wiping the entire building clean of hostiles.

Unfortunately, we didn't anticipate a few armored vehicles that arrived, and promptly shot down the AH-IZ and a few members of the squad, one of which can be seen dead on the left.

We then piled back into the Seahawk after the column was neutralized and assaulted the town of Novy Sobor to find the mad man behind the attack and kill him. The Seahawk got shot down by an Igla missile but luckily the crash wasn't explosive.
When we found him we riddled him with bullets, and then promptly got riddled with bullets ourselves by ambushers. We had to heal about half the squad, and by the end of the firefight we had about 8 or 9 guys, including the helicopter pilots.

We then drove from Novy Sobor to Electrogorsk or whatever its called. If you're not entirely up to speed with Arma, that's about a 10-15 minute drive.

When we did get there, there was a frantic search to find the stupid suitcase. We were getting really close when suddenly a KA-50/Hind (I forget which) came out of nowhere and obliterated every last man except for a Corpsman and a Pilot, the latter of whom couldn't walk. By this point the timer until detonation was getting pretty close and I didn't want to risk getting my last guy killed.

I then checked out some kind of power block area and I got shot a few times in close quarters, just managing to gun down my assailant in return. My Corpsman, unable to even stand, crawled to the Nuclear device and deactivated it.
And so was concluded an hour long mission.

I remember I managed to die once right before this cutscene started, and it caused kyle to constantly look to his right, and his saber was always on. It was pretty hilarious, as I had realisticsabercombat enabled so when he put it down it cut the bartender in half.
Then the cutscene ended and I was stuck in the mode until I restarted and loaded my game
