this isn't in the OP so i'm asking
I just recorded three Audiosurf runs that I'd like to upload to YouTube. However, they're all about 8 GB in size, and I'm not sure YouTube understands Lagarith anyway. How should I go about compressing them?

preferably without downscaling

RaceRoom, I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Everybody loves Metro screenshots

x264 or xvid
i record with fraps uncompressed then import into vegas 12, do my editing, then render using x264vfw @ 30 Mbps but that's not necessary for youtube, you can do 10 Mbps and it will look identical, i just don't like keeping gigantic uncompressed versions of my videos on my hard drive
i used to do the same thing as above, but instead of rendering straight to the final container with vegas i would render the edited video uncompressed again and use Easy h.264 to convert to h.264

I should compress my videos better, I just leave them at like 15GB and upload so youtube does the work.

my upload is shit and when i upload anything it destroys my net because i have cable so i can't get away with that (30/1.75~)

Understand that. Is there any reason you're using Fraps?
Understand that. Is there any reason you're using Fraps?
nope, i've just been using it forever and i'm too lazy to switch to anything else

Why not use Dxtory since it will help your upload speed etc? If you cannot afford a license you can have mine.
thanks for the offer but for me there's effectively no difference between fraps and dxtory
thanks for the offer but for me there's effectively no difference between fraps and dxtory
Well, there is more options to tweaks thing and recording in resolutions without having to change your in-game resolution.
Also, in Dxtory, 30min = 50GB, 60min = 100GB. (For me anyways)
It's the same in Fraps? Anyway, if you ever want a Dxtory license you can PM me.

It looks like some kind of time anomaly...
Dxtory has the great feature of being able to record your voice separately, but Fraps has the great feature of being able to loop record so you can always have it running without having to take up tons of disk space
if one of them would just have both of those features i'd be set
why not just use audacity for voice and fraps for video

yeah i know, i'd rather do all that shit in post
the only uncompressed fraps video i have left is 1.02 GB for 14 seconds, so something like 131 GB for a half hour

shame it isn't supported by the games i tried to play with it so I ended up getting logitech DFGT

How in the world does it help upload speed. You're the only person I know that knowingly uploads their lossless 500mbps files.

Why not just run them through x264 at like veryfast or something and CRF 18. You'd cut 90% of the filesize off without effecting the end YT quality level. And veryfast would likely encode like twice realtime.

There are many methods.
As Odellus said, Easy 264 might be the simplest option as I do maintain that x264 provides the best end quality even on YT.

I mostly thought about smaller filesize etc.
Well, I asked you last time but you didn't reply. Where can I even find that in Premiere? I choose h.264 and just render.

Oh well if you're doing in Premiere, then you can't do x264. But I'd still encode in H.264 so you can keep local copies of the files.
Since filesize isn't much of a worry, I'd just do single pass VBR, 5.1 level, 20mbps, 30mbps peak, and that's it. H.264 in AME is pretty simple to use and gives good results.

Nice, that's what I'm doing. I will limit it to 30mbps if you say that's good.

Don't know if you saw my post in cipwicket with the image, the AME H.264 in 5.1 and X264 are the best resulsts I've found. They keep the image quality good but also handle it well in motion. Mainconcept and Sony AVC start to turn to shit when stuff moves.

I see! So you recommend to use level 5.1 even for 1080p and then 30mbps? I usually max the bitrate but it seems.. pointless.
