Help, why do my videos look like shit
I have all the project settings right, and the rendered file looks pretty much perfect on my computer, but when I upload it to youtube, then, yeah

Does youtube hate x264 or something?
Maybe I'm just tremendously out of the loop, but I think that video has some of the better compression that I've seen. There's some really minor artifacting, but overall it seems very crisp and smooth.
Maybe I'm overreacting calling it terrible, but I'm almost sure I've seen better quality videos in this thread
And it looks nowhere near as good as the rendered file

Youtube kills quality really hard. It also forces videos to play at 30fps.
1080p generally looks like 720p. The better looking videos you saw were probably at 2160p and had the native res option available to offset the compression.

What were your x264 settings.
And no, actually I tested many formats and x264 always took top spot.

I don't know a whole lot about video editing so everything is probably horribly wrong, but again, the video looks perfect on my computer, it's only crap on Youtube
Put the quality lower (19-21) and preset to medium/fast
And set the profile to Main or High and change H264 to x264.
x264 VFW if I remember right is not an official subset of x264. the normal exe is so I can't give much feedback for the vfw encoder.
Your settings look ok to me. I might keep the CRF at something higher than 16 or so, anything less is really quite high. And I personally choose a preset of medium or fast, but at the same time that's somewhat preference as that just changes the efficiency, but maybe try a slower preset. Ultrafast is extremely loose. Something like very fast or fast might be good to try.
All of those presets have many built in variables that might work well or work not so well with YT. I'd had great luck with medium and I generally encode CRF 17 for most stuff and CRF 18-19 for my big let's plays.

The profile, definitely might help, but I don't know about VFW but the normal x264 automatically chooses MAIN in almost all settings unless you do some specific command line options.
the fourCC shouldn't affect anything as it is simply a naming system for the program decoding, at the same time it youtube might handle it differently, so I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

tried to IMMERSE myself in dirt3.
The fov in cockpit view is shit, I wish you could turn it up. Other thing that bugs me is that the steering wheel looks really flaccid

Well they probably have quite easy powersteering, but they turn more than 180 degrees and the shaft isn't made of rubberbands like it looks in dirt3
FFB in dirt3 is really great though, I just don't like how the cockpit wheel looks like

I can't remember the last time I played dirt3 with 100% grip, I've noticed that even 70% grip feels too much for some cars

Nope, you have to use skin installation tool and you can't even use them in multiplayer because pretty much every server is sv_pure 1
