-snip- being dumb.
4k Resolution support, not texture size.
50 GB @ 70kb/s is 6/gigs a day so 9 days of straight downloading. Add in steam being steam, my internet never stable, and the fact I'm not leaving my computer on for 9 straight days, I'll have about a month extra to wait. What possible good reason is there to be 50GB worth of shit? Inexcusable. I will probably go spend the night at a friends house just to download the damn game.
It's a pretty big game. Lots of content. And most games in this generation are 20+ GB to start. Times are changing.
It's a pretty big game. Lots of content. And most games in this generation are 20+ GB to start. Sounds like something you Ausies are going to have to do something about. Seriously if you don't like your internet, do something about it. Call up your service providers, start petitions, go to your local town hall meetings. If you want change, you need to get out and make it happen.

So glad I didn't get the ps4 version. Playstation enjoys resetting the download if your internet cuts out for a second, so those 1 GB patches would render online unplayable for me.
I'm sure PC will have a physical edition You should probably just get that [editline]4th January 2015[/editline]
For no good reason, though. I say this all the time, but Metal Gear Rising was 23 gigs. 20 Gigabytes was CGI cutscenes rendered in every possible resolution, 3 gigs was the actual game. Then was it that EA FPS that had every single audio pack downloaded, even if you would probably never use them? If I live in America, I don't want the german/french/spanish/latin language packs.
Considering the amount of content in the game I'd say 50 gb is justified as the actual game All cutscenes are done in game / real time, so it isn't taken up by movie files.
My uni halls have something like 2mbs download speed on Steam so the sooner the better really
That's not too shabby. [editline]4th January 2015[/editline]
It's a pretty big game. Lots of content. And most games in this generation are 20+ GB to start.
I thought physical editions were a thing of the past, I would fucking love that. I'd probably need a Blu-ray player though, wouldn't I?
From my experience a physical copy is often a glorified steam key.
I thought physical editions were a thing of the past, I would fucking love that. I'd probably need a Blu-ray player though, wouldn't I?
Blu-rays haven't made the cut for PC titles just yet. They're still DVDs but there will be a lot of them to hold all the content. Give it a few years and I think Blu-rays will start becoming more common place for PC games. [editline]4th January 2015[/editline]
From my experience a physical copy is often a glorified steam key.
Or a DVD with some content and the rest you have to download.
I'm sure PC will have a physical edition You should probably just get that
Nothing to be sure about, your can buy physical editions off Rockstar's store. Been able to since it was announced IIRC. some links GTA5 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KVXB5YQ/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00KVXB5YQ&linkCode=as2&tag=rockgame-20&linkId=YOENTXTY6GYK4X5O GTA5 on Rockstar's store http://preorder.rockstarwarehouse.com/store/tk2rstar/en_US/pd/productID.305285400/
From my experience a physical copy is often a glorified steam key.
Max Payne 3 didn't have a Steam Key, so we have no idea if GTA5 will
I kind of figured the larger 40+gb installs were to try and deter pirating. I'd rather have a compressed game to be honest. Like I don't listen to uncompressed wav files for music because it's larger and unnecessary when a high quality mp3 works just fine.
Errant Signal did a video on GTA V and I think he has some really good criticisms about the game.
"...the game never tries to make that strong of a statement. It's just more comfortable parodying disc jockeys and commercials and reality TV than tackling big heady issues, especially issues that require it to take a real political stance." That's funny because he literally just complained about them taking a political stance on torture before this.

That's funny because he literally just complained about them taking a political stance on torture before this.
Errant Signal has always been of questionable quality to me. After the Half-Life 2 criticisms given by this guy, and me replaying HL2, I can say that he wasn't right, so I haven't really watched any of his videos since.
he wasn't complaining about the stance on torture. he was complaining that the closest the game does come to making a statement is ruined by the scene after where trevor drives the dude to the airport and the whole thing is made into a joke. and the driving to the airport part is hamfisted with the message.

So I live in rural hickville, and we're getting upgraded to 100/4mbps soon. I feel very sorry for you Australians.

Playstation enjoys resetting the download if your internet cuts out for a second, so those 1 GB patches would render online unplayable for me.
It's not inexcusable, there's very good reasons for large file sizes. Games are expected to get more detailed and better looking and sounding as time goes on. You can't have this unless the game itself gets bigger - you need: - Models, for all characters, NPCs, animals, vehicles, world items, moveable props, and so on... You'll also need to duplicate this a little for some LOD models, for example between third and first person view. Don't forget some more duplication, to have low-poly models to act as collision meshes! - Textures, all of which need to be very high resolution so that your immersion isn't broken when you run into a wall in first person. - Sounds, which includes the many radio stations, all the engine noises, all character voice clips, collision noises... essentially everything that happens in the game needs a set of sounds to go along with it. Make sure to have plenty of redundancy too, so that NPCs don't constantly repeat themselves! - Animations. Especially in the next-gen version, not only do you have a separate animation set per main character, but also separate first person and third person animations! You also need a crapload of data for the animations of other NPCs and animals and vehicle door opening and so on. We can't have amazingly detailed games AND low file sizes. High detail means you are storing a lot more data... [editline]4th January 2015[/editline]
Errant Signal has always been of questionable quality to me. After the Half-Life 2 criticisms given by this guy, and me replaying HL2, I can say that he wasn't right, so I haven't really watched any of his videos since.
The issue with him is he states a bunch of facts which are usually true, but not necessarily problems. It's like, he'll say something along the lines of "the character in this game acts as a... *insert role here*", go on to say a bunch of supporting evidence, and then claim it's an issue with the game... but often it's just a factual statement and not something that's actually really a flaw at all, and is just a design choice.
Still no specs. They lied. I'm fucking pressing charges as we speak.
- Sounds, which includes the many radio stations, all the engine noises, all character voice clips, collision noises... essentially everything that happens in the game needs a set of sounds to go along with it. Make sure to have plenty of redundancy too, so that NPCs don't constantly repeat themselves!
Because of the amount of sounds and the fact that they have to be good quality, these are the culprit. From what I've heard, 75% of GTA SA's file size is just its sounds.
I'm redownloading GTA IV after finishing V again, is there a list of recommended mods for just playing through the story? Also a tutorial for modding it since it's confusing as fuck.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/juiGKFb.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/F0N5TjF.jpg[/t]
Great. Now that's going to bother me forever now unless they fix it.
starting to replay san andreas after 5 years but i want to mod the shit out of it what is the best website for san andreas mods that dont just add cars, weapons, and models but really enhance the gameplay and tweak a few features to make the game better visually and what not? also playing on the steam version if that matters
- Textures, all of which need to be very high resolution so that your immersion isn't broken when you run into a wall in first person.
What the fuck are you running into walls for? You're talking shit anyway, you can have games with plenty of detail and lower file sizes for them, sounds do repeat alot in the game and I've heard NPCs walking by talking about something and then someone else talking about the same fucking thing, also a black woman with an annoying nasally ass voice shouting "HEY!" down a phone.

The point is, everything needs to be high resolution, just to make the world believable and nice looking nowadays. Want to read text or see a picture in the game world? Gonna need some super high resolution textures there. It gets worse when you are trying to avoid obvious tiling textures and so on... Anyways, I'm not talking shit. I've programmed small games and actually have an idea of what goes into making one... Anyways, sounds do repeat, but there's still not much repetition compared to what there could be. Have you seen the huge size of the script for GTA V? Hell, for GTA IV, the older game, there was probably hours of just the grunts and general talking Niko would do when hurt or stealing cars or whatever - then multiply that three times for each character in GTA V! Some games will have plenty of detail and lower file sizes, but these tend to be a lot smaller, and/or rely on procedurally generated content. This isn't applicable to all games.

You can't just go photorealistic textures on low-poly models, you've got to upgrade the whole gamut. Photorealistic textures on low-poly models is just as immersion-breaking.
Give a model with decent textures a high resolution normal map and it looks fucking filthy. [editline]5th January 2015[/editline] Also this.
I got a Bounce FM [sp]aka best radio station[/sp] shirt. [t]http://prod.hosted.cloud.rockstargames.com/ugc/gta5photo/oFOfB_EskkizTeCaowpK-Q_0_0.jpg[/t]
Holy fucking shit since when does GTA have cows?
Holy fucking shit since when does GTA have cows?
where are they? I've played this game nonstop and haven't seen any.
