that gun needs to be in more things. i'm surprised it hasn't made it into a bunch of cyberpunk movies already, it looks like something straight out of Blade Runner
Probably cause it was a hulking piece of shit that couldn't cycle properly unless you used EXACTLY the correct .357 Magnum rounds. :v:
[sp]Though yeah I totally love it too for it's looks.[/sp]
He's allowed to be critical of how the game looks, though.
Personally I think it looks rather good and will be buying it, but even I would say that fundamentally it's the same city as SR3, with some minor additions. Obviously SR2 did this as well for the most part with Stilwater, and the new movement mechanics with superpowers in SR4 may be a game-changer, but I'm not going to base my whole evaluation of 'is this good or not' on IdolNinja's opinion.
I'll grant you the point about the city because so little is known, but I'm basing my opinion off of everybody who has played the game, IdolNinja included. I haven't seen a single overall negative opinion apart from minor criticisms from people who have played the game for a substantial amount of time. A few of the people who played it are even going so far as to predict a possible GOTY contender. We just talk about Mr. Ninja because he goes to FP sometimes and he's the person who has supplied us with the most in-depth information and the most solidly formed opinions and criticisms.

Yeah but the Desert Eagle is allegedly a piece of shit gun yet it's practically mandatory in games like this these days. So what if the gun sucks, it makes it in anyway because it looks cool.

It's not a piece of shit per-say, just really big and heavy for a handgun so it's kinda impractical for most purposes.
Also it's in SRIV :v: Which I love since it definitely fits The Boss' personality.

Plus, before playing, Idol was pretty damn skeptical of the game. He thought it was SR 3.5 too, and now he's giving quite a bit of praise to the game. So if anything, that gives me a positive feeling about this game.
Saints Row Mods' other admin Minimaul also seemed just as impressed.

Believe me,i'm crying too. But more because of your comments.
Just cuz

And I don't doubt their ability to enjoy a game and tell it apart from other games, but there's only so much you can glean even from being able to play preview builds. It may not be identical, strictly speaking, but it may feel that way after going through it for more than 8 hours.
If the streets are the same, the buildings the same, every location basically the same, just with vertical structures placed overhead and a different enemy set condensed into one 'gang', that seems very lazy.
Of course none of us has been able to really sit down and analyze how similar the SR4 version of Steelport is to the SR3 version aside from what is immediately apparent (to my knowledge Idol hasn't done so), and if nothing else the new activities should still be fun, so I'm not just dismissing the new work they did. All I'm saying is I'm still skeptical of how 'new' it is.
Well, if anything at all, it sounds like a fun game so far.

I think Idol has played like 60-70 hours of the preview build (I could be wrong), but I don't remember if he's commented on Steelport.
Wasn't it already established that simulated Steelport is only a portion of the game? There's all this nightmare realms, real-life missions, etc.

Yeah, but the majority of your time will be done in that virtual reality. Hell, I'm pretty sure most if not all of the Nightmare Realms will just be a portion of the map specifically tuned to that character. I'm probably wrong on both accounts, but you can't assume things like that.

Well based on the Independence Day trailer there was some places that didn't look like Steelport. Specially the segment with the flying ship in this massive looking mainframe.

There are other environments but I'm still betting that you'll be in simulated Steelport for a significant portion of the game.
Simulated Steelport is probably the Sandbox map.
How much does it cost to pre-order SR4? Are there any special editions? I cannot access steam atm

On PC there's just the TF2 bonuses/commander in chief stuff. It's $50, but you can get it for $45 if you own SR3 on Steam.
On Xbox and PS3 there's a special edition called The Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition.

If you pre-purchase on Steam right now you get 10% off ($44.99,) if you own Saints Row 3, and the Commander in Chief Edition.

25 hours in LA playing an early alpha, and 35 on the preview. At least 15-20 of the preview was just goofing around in free roam and coop. I couldn't get enough and can't wait to play it again on release. For reals.
I've talked about my feelings about Steelport in-depth in all of the articles. The bottom line is that it's nowhere near as good as SR2 Stilwater, but better than SRTT's Steelport.
You know, it's starting to bother me how the model that they use for promos looks nothing like ingame Johnny Gat.

The hair, widow's peak, sunglasses, cheekbones, jawline, even skin tone are different. That "GAT IS BACK" poster barely even looked like him.
The promo images don't even look like DDK.
None of the promos look anything like their in game models IMO.
The Boss was worst off in Saints Row:The Third, because his promo art looked NOTHING like his default appearance

Neither of them look like the Gat I know.

But I am happy to have him back. He's the best character.

Pretty sure they were made before any in-game models were decided.
Default boss probably went through many changes.
He eventually just straight up became Sterling Archer.

SR3 Gat is my favorite. Sue me.
The fact that his glasses are fully tinted and hide his eyes gives him a more badass look. I like pompadour and fro haircuts and Gat has a mix of them in SR3, it fits well.
Of course, he is better as a character in SR2. Hoping he'll be the same in SRIV.
I don't like the look of Gat in 3 and 4. He looks too, "plastic-like". The gat from 1 and 2 looked much better.
