Saints Row IV - From the Crack House to the White House

Did strongholds in SR2 count as missions? That's also probably why it felt like it had more missions.
Saints Row 2's three gang mission arcs, plus the prologue stuff excluding strongholds, count up to 37 missions. Add in strongholds for these arcs and you get 50 missions. Add the Ultor arc + the secret mission and that's 56.
I seriously doubt there'll be as much content in SR4 as there was in SR2- let's be honest, there was a lot. Still, there'll definitely be much more than 3, and I can look forward to all activities added.

Not as much content as SR2, but definitely more than SRTT. SR4 kind of sits right in the middle.
For the people talking about 37 missions, it likely includes all the side quests in that total. If I had to make a rough guess from my playthrough in LA, I'd say about 20 story missions + 7 loyalty missions (which are just as long/good as a story mission) + the rest being small side quest stuff.
I don't mind something being over-the-top, as long as it's forethought, and not irritating.
I don't mind there being less content than SR2 as long as the story/missions are mind-blowing.

Speaking of that playthrough, do you recall how complete the game was at that point? I recall you mentioning that clothing customization and radio were not complete.

This is supposed to be The Playa. I don't see it.

It was in an extremely rough alpha state. Anything's possible between then and final release.

It's obviously just some random PR guys
So if SR4 has gone gold, then what's happening with the Australia situation? They can always change the content with the game, but they can't change the code itself at this point, so either the weapon is gone or it's there but just disabled.
Edit: And that's on the PC, at this point they'd be just about ready to start pressing Xbox copies.

The weapon has been degraded to preorder item, so it could easily get through Austrailian guards if they just don't allow it over there.
I'm seeing references to it being included in the Season Pass, but then the Steam store page says it's a "low violence" version.
So glad I live in the UK, there's pretty much no restrictions on gaming here.
The [del]Penetrator[/del] Anal Probe being moved to the Season Pass to bypass censors is only idle speculation. I don't think there's any proof to substantiate that claim.
Is the Season Pass available on Steam yet?
Saints Row 2 can be a lot more frustrating than 3 sometimes because the only way you will lose a mission is with really cheap shit that can't be avoided. Like a car coming out of nowhere and clothslining you for a one hit kill, or a car parking on top of you while everyone who was in the car teleports outside and unloads their SMGs into you at point-blank range, or the AI you're escorting can't drive so he drives into the wall until his car explodes. One time I decided that I wanted to jump over a parked car in a firefight so I jumped over it, hovered in mid-air for about two seconds, and was stricken with a sudden bout of narcolepsy so my character fell limp to the ground. By this point the 5 guys with assault rifles finally caught up and killed me in a quarter of a femtosecond.
Actually, now that I think about it, roughly 90% of my deaths in Saints Row 2 is because of cheap vehicular bullshit. I've always wondered why people in gangs never drove into me in 3 and now I know, it's because being killed in one hit by a car a dozen times is really frustrating because you really can't do anything about it. But I guess it adds a bit of a perverse challenge to the game because the only moment this game becomes even remotely difficult or hectic is when you're playing bullfight with 3 vehicles that are all trying at once to ram you at full speed, because you know that a moment a car touches your character, you're going to die and you're going to have to start the whole mission over again.

I believe that the reason many things were the way they were in SR3 was to help the player avoid cheap mission losses and frustration. That's also why I believe they drastically reduced the activity count, so players would have to grind through 158 instances of activities for 100% completion.
I mean hell one time I took a car out of my garage and some bitch decided it was hers.

Honestly everything you mentioned (apart from shitty friendly AI) is why I loved SR2. Combat, especially on the street, was fucking HECTIC and adrenaline rushing. In SR3 it was much more toned down.

Though I honestly don't think they did that on purpose. They need to boost the reckless driving of civilian vehicles/enemy vehicles.

I prefer combat in Saints Row 3 to be honest, especially with gangs. The specialists and brutes added a fun bit of variety to combat and made it feel more challenging, but it was fair. When you died it felt like it was your fault. And then when STAG rolled around the difficulty ramped up to suit your late-game character. Actually when I was playing with all upgrades except for no damage taken from bullets, etc., I still found certain fights giving me a run for my money which was nice. In 2 the only challenge is being hit by cars and dealing with dumb AI.

Woo I have infinite respect. I don't know why, but I figure it's because respect is used to unlock missions so I must have unlocked enough respect to play every mission in the game. I remember this happening last time.

I'd agree but I really don't look how being grabbed by brutes took you out of the gameplay and forced you into an animation/quick time event.
sr2 had no challenge in combat at all outside from getting knocked down by cars and then destroyed by pinpoint accurate gunfire
the only time I failed missions in 2 was when cars ran me over+when idiot friendly ai died, or in that one mission where you're in the back of a truck throwing fireworks at cars, I always missed the cars 9 times out of 10
Also is it just me or do some gangs have slightly different tactics? I've noticed that Police tend to be more aggressive in chases and try to perform pit maneuvers, and the Brotherhood are more likely to ram you with their cars when you're on foot than other gangs. I can't tell if that's really happening or just dumb luck.

The quicktime events in general in Saints Row 3 were just really shitty. I remember being incredibly disappointed during the Murderbrawl mission because Killbane was supposed to be this brutal pugilistic terror and then [sp]you just beat him with a few quicktime events that take no challenge at all.[/sp] You gear up for a crazy fight and then there's no challenge in it at all so it all feels hollow.

I just gave myself infinite respect every time I played sr2 using gotr because I didnt feel like killing a ton of gang members just so I could start a mission, im so glad they got rid of that in 3

I thought that at first but then I realized I wanted to play the activities anyway for the unlocks and that just gives you boatloads of respect. Now I just kinda do whatever as the fancy strikes me.

Don't forget the cheap fuckers with rocket launchers.

sr3's combat was meh but sr2's combat was fuckawful. It's just a ropey ass game in general
I liked the different melee attack styles in SR2 though.
Is there a mod that somehow fixes the PC port of 2? I know about GOTR and that one Better Handling mod (if thats not included in gotr, that is),but i'm mainly talking about the lagspikes that occur while driving. Those lagspikes alone just made me avoid cars as much as I could.
Also, having the PC port done in-house was literally the best decision Volition made with SR3. The 2 port is so god awful.

SR2 had quantity, SR3 had quality imo
