Completed the game and [sp]holy shit that dance scene was unexpected[/sp] [sp]I'm personally hoping that a DLC is released revealing there was a minute or two between the Saints phoning Josh and Oleg and Earth's destruction. Zinyak takes them and you subsequently rescue them.[/sp]
IMO Saints Row 3 felt much longer. However, I still really enjoyed SR4 a lot more than 3. But I feel like Volition needed a lot more time.
Look at the time you spent in vehicles in SR3. Look at the time you didn't in SR4. Everybody seems to forget that driving from point A to point B is a massive amount of ingame time in sandbox titles.

Of course, in the game where cars are basically useless, they add one with incredibly prominent taillight fins. Sure, the Churchill was in The Third, but it just doesn't look as good as the Hollywood.
Wardens seem so underwhelming in free roam I spend all this time destroying tanks UFOs murderbots and tons of other shit that actually came close to killing me to end it by taking out a warden in 60 seconds
Even with that in mind, SR4 felt a lot more padded.
Define "padding".
Me and my friend just played a few hours of SR4. [THUMB]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/630789851473635063/98670A0C8E448F89ED93BC8063AF12C71699C9E9/[/THUMB] Amazing.
[sp]Man, I bet after the ending The Boss tried to go to bed, and just broke down crying because of the Earth's fate catching them in a lull, compelling Shaundi to give them a sappy yet bittersweet reminder that they "still have us, and the people that were saved."[/sp]
Define "padding".
Making you do additional, duller tasks for the sake of stretching out game time. You know, like how the side missions (aside from the loyalty missions) are just groups of activities with various excuses on why you're doing them. And how you pretty much have to rely on doing those a lot in order for the overall game to feel like it has decent length. Granted, the activities are more varied this time around, but the main story should be able to hold its own in length. IMO, there should have been a bit more going on after you finally got the gang back together. Sure there were some things happening here and there, but the plot points just came and went really fast, like they ran out of time or something. And some of the pre-finale missions also felt oddly uncreative compared to the ones before it, which were mostly great. It just feels like the game was cut down in places, so they had to encourage you to do the side activities a lot more than you used to. Well, except in Saints Row 2, where they actually forced you to do them, even though the story had enough length already.

Only to explode the universe when they get near themselves
What bothers me about the ending is that [sp]they seemingly don't realize that they can just go back in time and prevent Earth from getting destroyed.[/sp]
I'm assuming that's what the first mission of the next game is going to be.
It's hilarious how much this game retroactively shits on SR3. [sp]The game that didn't have Johnny Gat, or The Row[/sp]
The DLC's need to be as chock full of furry jokes as the main game.
So... still no full soundtrack on youtube? There are some background tracks that I really dig, especially Zinyak's theme music.
What bothers me about the ending is that [sp]they seemingly don't realize that they can just go back in time and prevent Earth from getting destroyed.[/sp]
[sp]if they go back in time and stop earth from getting destroyed they would never be able to access the time machine meaning they couldn't go back and stop earth from getting destroyed[/sp]
What bothers me about the ending is that [sp]they seemingly don't realize that they can just go back in time and prevent Earth from getting destroyed.[/sp]
[sp]Isn't that a secret good ending though?[/sp]
[sp]if they go back in time and stop earth from getting destroyed they would never be able to access the time machine meaning they couldn't go back and stop earth from getting destroyed[/sp]
[sp]They can at least grab all of their friends before it actually gets destroyed. Even then, they had the desire to kill Zinyak to before Earth got destroyed. They still would have gone after Zinyak if he didn't, it just gave them a little more incentive to.[/sp]

If you're going to complain about it being too short you should know this. For what it's worth any sandbox game with a plot, even those generally considered massive, can be run through in under 7 hours (GTAIV in particular is a five hour game if you're familiar with it) so keep in mind the reality that if you got eight hours out of the campaign you got what you paid for. Very often people judge game length by how it "felt" to them, which is deceptive. I also dislike activities being gussied up as "side quests" but that's the opposite of padding, those are always present and all they did was try motivating people to play them. Padding is eight missions in SR3 being activities, or SR2 having activities be mandatory to progress.

I suppose I really just wish the main story was longer because of how the pacing of the story felt. It really just relied too much on you doing the side missions to pace the story so that the developers didn't have to, which again, were really just the activities with additional excuses for doing them. Also, I didn't measure how long it took me to finish the SR3 and SR4 stories. I'm aware that how you "feel" isn't always "correct", but if it feels wrong, then clearly something went wrong somewhere. I don't care if something is shorter if it feels like it was paced and presented properly.
are you really arguing about the proper use and functions of [sp]time travel[/sp] in the saints row series really
are you really arguing about the proper use and functions of [sp]time travel[/sp] in the saints row series really
[sp]Dude, I love time travel, but the way it functions is weird depending on the series. The fact it's in SRIV doesn't really matter, at least to me.[/sp]
I just bought the game. "The Captain" pistol style is possibly the best reference I've ever seen in a game.
[sp]if they go back in time and stop earth from getting destroyed they would never be able to access the time machine meaning they couldn't go back and stop earth from getting destroyed[/sp]
No, you're wrong actually. [sp]Marvel Comics style branching time-travel caused Alternate Universes.[/sp]
Pictures in end credits spoiler: [sp]Man I would like to have a high resolution version of the time travel art at the end of the game, specifically the mohawk Abe Lincoln I think would make an awesome wallpaper.[/sp]
I must say I am incredibly surprised. I was afraid I was going to regret buying this game, but it has sooooo far exceeded my expectations. Good on Volition!
So apparently the data for cut homies, such as Lin, Dane Vogel, William Sharp, and Donnie are still in the game. Anyone want to try swapping out the models so we can see how the classics look in HD? Here's what Dane looks like.
