The thing I don't like is how the boss hasn't been as badass as they have been since Saints Row 2, I mean Johnny Gat is pretty badass, there's no denying, but when playing as the boss, I really don't like being put in second place when it comes to how much of a badass I am.
I think it's an interesting concept to have the player be the lancer to another character. Being just as capable if not more so, but never getting as much credit. What's bullshit is that the Boss never has the nerve to point out the discrepancy despite their relationship, which is uncharacteristic on multiple fronts.
I meant they reused Steelport for SR4. I believe Hell is a new location.
All the buildings were redone though. SR3 and SR4 steelport were practically different because the buildings needed to be designed to accompany traveling around.

I just can't get over that. They had such a massive canvas to work with in the world being a simulation, and this sandbox game's goddamn sandbox is a less compelling version of a 2 year old city that sucked in the first visit.

I agree. Everytime I'm in Stilwater, I can find shit to do. Steelport was a bland turd and will always be a bland turd.

The Boss is a natural born leader though, s/he is the one that rebuilt the Saints from nothing. Johnny walked free for years without doing so and prefers the action to the leadership.

and what exactly are referring to when you say "johnny walked free for years?"
Well damnit, remind me to never trust random flying vehicles on the parkour towers thing.
Been playing for ~4 hours with a friend, we're doing the fourth tower, I see some vehicle on the side of a platform, press E, game restarts in windowed for no reason and save games are totally gone.
I looked up online for a fix but it didn't work for me, guess I just wasted all this time. That kind of shit makes me want to not play again.
yet johnny is the greatest human alive or whatever the fuck.

Saints Row 2 is set like, 5 years or so after the first right? Johnny was only in prison for 2 years. So for the rest of that time, Gat walked free without rebuilding the Saints.

If you found out everyone around you was a cop, wanting out, and blowing up the Boss, I doubt you'd try and rebuild it.
Honestly, I feel like the Saints being rebuilt was just a huge lucky circumstance. Boss wakes up from coma, Carlos has a plan to break out of jail, you just happen to see Gat on the TV in a court, and it takes off from there.

Sounds like we're getting a new sandbox

This is all I've wanted since Saints Row 1.
I mean, I wish we'd have a Saints Row 5 that was more like 2 where Dex controlled 3 gangs as an army against you, but I can live with killing him in Hell.
We're getting an expasion. Neat. But I still want a fully new sequel, maybe one that blends SR2's style with SR3 and SR4. Something witty but not over the top. Something fun. Expansions are nice, but I'm still looking forward to the next full sequel.

Goddamnit if Gat ends up being the one who kills Dex I will kill Gat
I'm just hoping they work on the main missions, hopefully they're not over in like an hour and hopefully they're not just activities.
Random thought: Will the expansion be able to take in one's Boss model from Saintsrow.com or something if you can play it without owning SR4? Seems it might be trivial if the game is centered around playing around as Gat, but still.
A few days late, but I have a feeling it will just use the default/first pre-made male version of The Boss if you don't have SRIV. That or they pull something where The Boss is always in a costume with a voice modulator or some other thing to keep you from seeing and hearing them. Seeing as you're saving The Boss from Satan, you probably will never physically see The Boss and The Boss will be represented with like a non descript soul cloud or something.

Or.. or, since it's a standalone expansion pack, if someone has a SRIV savefile, it uses that?
Or.. or, since it's a standalone expansion pack, if someone has a SRIV savefile, it uses that?
I kind of was implying what I think they will do if there isn't a save found.
Goddamnit if Gat ends up being the one who kills Dex I will kill Gat
From what I've heard, he's just another Genki that randomly spawns and we get a bonus for killing. I hope he's part of the story, it's a loose end I'd be obliged to tie up.

I'm thinking it'll tie into their site like 3 and IV did. I bet it'll let us use a preset Boss or download a custom one and have it say something like "Choose your damsel in distress" or something to that effect.
Would be neat if we got to see Troy again.
I played Gat out of Hell at PAX and asked the on hand dev about character customization. He said if you have a save game from SRIV (Possibly 3 as well can't remember) you can import your boss into the game.
Fun fact: Importing default Boss from SR3 into SR4 will for some reason fuck with his appearance so he'll look quite different compared to default SR4 boss.
the boss should always be trying to one-up gat, but somehow fail every time
Uh, so i was re-playing SR3 after a friend gifted it to me on Steam, and i dunno if this works on IV but apparently if you switch weapons mid taunt/compliment, it'll conflict and cause hilarious results
One of them is this:

I really hope that Gat out of Hell is not a letdown like 4 was. This may be the last outing with the saints, and I want them to do it right. I just like to hold onto hope that maybe at the end of Gat out of Hell[sp] that they either time travel to restore earth (since the Zin have time travel tech) or satan restores earth or something.[/sp] It'll be really good to probably see a lot of characters not in 4, or that were in for a short time though.
so gat out of hell is on steam now for pre-purchase

[sp]That's exactly what happens in *The Saints Save Christmas*; Future Shaundi is from a time when the Saints eventually figure out how to travel back in time to restore Earth.[/sp]

How about they remake SR1 and keep it somewhat lore friendly by claiming they used the [sp]time travel[/sp] to get there.
Like for real, a HD PC port of that game would get bought up so fast.

I have yet to play The Saints Save Christmas, so I did not know that. Hopefully Gat out of Hell will build upon that.

That's kind of what I was hoping would happen. It's been so long since I've played SR1, I need to play it again.
