It literally had more features, more locations to visit, better characters, more weapons, more vehicles, MORE CUSTOMIZATION. Also the mall.

Whenever they showcase the "Death from Above" attack, it looks like the textures on the walls near the boss begin to morph and melt. Is that shitty compression or a neat effect in the game?

Pretty sure that's an effect, since its in the simulation.

From every gameplay and trailer I've seen, the world has a really cool matrix-esque world generator thing, so it's probably just like an intentional tear or a glitch.

I guess fight club won't be back either :( I wonder why they didn't included it in SR3. Doesn't seems hard to just put the player with other bad guys to fight on a ring.
