I assume it's just to get your attention. The ringing alerts you to the fact that there will be something to listen to, but also tells you that it will be just audio so you're free to look around during the talking.

Good news everyone, getting Steam keys from Desura for a bought copy of FN@F works finally. Now you don't have to get ready for Freddy all over again for $4.99, just copy-paste the key this Desura page gives you when you select "Your Keys" for FN@F:

the audio cues in the game are fucked up. if even a single mascot is off the stage and you can see them through your camera, it'll still play the GASHUNK-KSHH-GASHUNK like they're walking up to your booth. you can also hear foxy dum-dum-dumming his pirate song even if he's completely concealed by the curtains.
if it's so bad that you can't play the game just get some headphones and one of those Life-Alert bracelets that notify 911 when you start having a stress-induced heart attack or something :v:

...I think I realized something else about this theory. This goes way into "headcanon" status so I'll spoiler it.
[sp]The bite didn't kill the kid. He's taken to a hospital, able to be saved. He leaves it alive, though without a functioning frontal lobe and some sort of PTSD. Because of this, his judgement is impaired, but otherwise he functions like any other human being. Years pass, he grows up estranged from everyone else because of the change, likes being alone where he can have his fucked up thoughts (since, ya know, without his frontal lobe, he makes decisions that don't play well with others.). He grows up without much support from those few who stuck around him, and desperately tries to find a job...and one comes up. At a local animatronics pizzeria.[/sp]

You have to own the Desura version of the game, [I]and[/I] be logged into your account on the Desura site. The reason I posted this was so that people who bought it on Desura for half-off like I did wouldn't have to re-buy it on Steam, since Desura actually gives Steam keys for games, but didn't for this game until now.
