You analyze the patterns and movement routes of the animatrons, figure out when they're about to reach you or are right outside your door, and shut it until they leave and reset their pattern. It's essentially if Pac-Man was idle, had the ability to control two walls to ward ghosts off, and had a fog of war he'd have to use cameras to see the Ghosts in the distance with. However, you only have so much power, and each Animatronic has their own patterns, so you're constantly on the prowl to counter them before they get you.
It only gets more intense as the nights go on, to the point that by the 'end' of the game you're constantly in a panicked state. Although there's horror elements, it's more like a very intense micromanagement strategy game than survival horror.

It is pretty much a defense & resource type game (a spooky one at that). Your goal is to survive the night shift until 6AM without being killed by the animatrons by watching the cameras, checking your blind spots and shutting the emergency door when needed. All of this consumes power which you need to conserve to survive the night. The animatrons also have patterns you need to figure out to help you survive. Although this changes in the later "levels" as they become more erratic and random (especially Freddy's).

Each of the animatronics have their own little patterns and strategies, although random number generators do play into it. However, if you know how each one 'works', then you can erect a fairly fool-proof method to stay alive. The most RNG-based one is Freddy, which is why everybody's shit scared of him.

You have to survive 6 ingame hours (8 real life minutes) in an office. Your only available actions are to check cameras, turn on the lights, and close the doors. All of these actions consume energy. You run out of energy, you die. You let one of the animatronics enter your room, you die.
It's up to you to figure out their position, patterns and to manage your time and energy to survive.

I really hope the developer actually tries to incorporate that "joy of creation" line even more into the game. It really helps set the creepy atmosphere of this game. Also wouldn't it be neat if the mascots could reveal their endoskeletons every once in a while to make some encounters more interesting that others?

I still have yet to get the money to buy and play this game (I don't want to pirate this, I want to actually support the dude), but I already feel the sympathies for that Foxy dude and I feel like I'm going ot start the game thinking he's just misunderstood and them BAM I'm dead.
