Five Nights at Freddy's. The indie horror game where animatronics from a pizzaria try to murder you
I'm confident MMF2 (the program he used to make this game) uses a checksum for data verification.
If you don't know what a checksum is:
[sp](this is just an analogy, not what is actually happening)
The game has 3 resources.
Each resource consists of 2 numbers.
1) 3, 2
2) 4, 6
3) 9, 2
The sum of these numbers is 5 + 10 + 11 = 26
When the game is packed to be released, it is packed with the '26' in mind.
Every time the game is started, it checks if everything adds up to 26.
You can change 3 to your own resource and suddenly it's for example 6, 7 instead of 9, 2.
Since the game is expecting 26 not 28, it will fuck you up.
This '26' is called a checksum. It doesn't have to be a sum, it can be a complex algorithm.[/sp]
This can either be recalculated or patched to be ignored.
None of which I can be arsed to do. Right now, at least.
So does this mean that the creator put this checksum thingy in on purpose to prevent people from modding the game, or is this something commonly used in software to detect corruption or something?
So does this mean that the creator put this checksum thingy in on purpose to prevent people from modding the game, or is this something commonly used in software to detect corruption or something?
Checksums are made for and most often used to check for corruption, but also sometimes used to detect if something has been fucked with (some MMORPGs do this).
I'm still not sure whether they actually use one or not because I haven't tried changing anything.
I don't 100% understand their image format so I haven't made a tool to convert images into their format yet.

Personally I think it's good that he makes use of that facecam.
Christ, it looks like he's making that pressured face when Arnold was exposed to the surface of Mars.

any competent person with a face cam shouldn't constantly look into the face cam because it really makes it seem like they're just cheesing up their reactions. but that's a level of ham and cheese that just goes overboard, like an overcooked hot pocket
I'm glad we got off of the pewdiepie diatribe. It was almost painful watching that happen after people complained about this game getting hate because it'e popular.

I love this one, the way how the artist drew the wacky eyes & mouth.

He wants to fuck an animatronic anthropormorphic animal?
Well shit, he'll fit right in with this game's fanbase
And can someone explain why does the thread have that much dumb rates ?
We must PM everybody who rated it dumb to consider re-rating it now that it's changed

Oh hey I asked the artist if she was going to put it on a t-shirt and this was her reply for anyone wondering:
I’ve gotten several asks and I’ve seen some tags on the piece saying “I’d want this on a t-shirt!”, so there is definite interest! That said, I have a very strict policy of not making and selling merchandise of existing properties, especially indie properties like FNaF. I feel to do unofficial merchandise would be leaching from the creator’s hard work. However, if there was enough interest, I would be more than happy to contact Scott Cawthorn and figure out a way to get the design out to those who want it, though if he didn’t want merchandise of it I would be more than happy to oblige to his wishes.
Some guy made an advertisement poster for Freddy's.

For some odd reason, after seeing all that "cutesy" art of the 5N@F animatronics, I ended up with this weird idea for a sort of Banjo-Kazooie style adventure platformer where you played as toon versions of Chica, Bonnie, Foxy and Freddy. Pizza slices would be the health powerup, but you only gain health when you actively use it, and if you manage to gather enough pieces you'd be able to activate a "Pizza Party!" splash screen where all the characters are eating pizza, then the max health of the characters would be increased along with being restored to full life, making you choose between quick HP regain in a pinch and holding off until you have enough for a pizza party.
You'd be able to cycle through each of the characters on the fly a'la Castlevania 3, and each character would have certain special abilities, like Foxy the Pirate would be super fast and have an affinity for finding treasure, Chica would be able to fly and gain extra life from eating pizza (she'd eat it as soon as she picked it up, though, so don't pick it up with her if you're gunning for a pizza party), and so-on. As for the plot, it'd probably involve an evil wizard called "Mystic Mike" who looks like a skeleton in wizard attire, who has kidnapped the gang's talking cupcake friend Jerry and is doing other nondescript "evil stuff", and the final level involves trying to cut the power to his high security torture chamber in an eerie mirror to the events of Five Nights at Freddy's, right up to the oh so familiar screaming when you finally enter the chamber and corner him.
It's kind of like what late-90's Rare might have done if they were able to get the licensing agreements for Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Palace.
I watched DSP's Let's Play.
Meh. He had some jokes. But jeezuz his 'laugh'...
Ya'know he has a nice voice for a LPer, and I really think he could be a rather entertaining one (Like in his Heavy Rain pt1 vid) if he could enjoy his games, take them seriously & learn to play.

Thing is, DSP managed to delude himself into thinking he's God Tier when it comes to video games. He always had a big ego, however when he started dating Panda Lee she started feeding it until he became what he is now.
Whenever I hear DSP mentioned I get flashbacks to the time I stayed up all night watching an eight hour montage of him failing at everything, the manchild doesn't even know how to change a set of batteries and yet he think's he's a master of all video games.
Guys, these game makes me very scared at night. I didn't even play it. Fuck you guys, you and your Freddy theories.

i'm quite fond of the animatrons. i'd probably honk fazbear's nose if i ever saw him.

He hams it up a bit, but Mark actually has a crippling fear of mannequins and thing that aren't supposed to move moving.

my theory is his GF isn't actually his GF, but a nurse sent by the hospital to make sure that he can chew his food, put clothes on in the morning, and not choke himself with a controller cord.

Sounds like the perfect Nintendo 64 game that Freddy's would offer at the prize counter. Right up there on the top shelf with stuff that no kid could ever earn in their lifetime.
Here's my question: what exactly would we want in a sequel? More robots? More locations? More background story?
I would personally like it if we could actually see people running for their lives from the robots, only to have the cameras glitch out and turn into audio for a brief moment. Then once the camera is back on the only thing left of a person would be shoes or a blood stain.
It'd be pretty rare, I imagine, which is why alt-universe JonTron woulda spent the whole darn summer trying to win that golden Freddy & Friends: Pizza Patrol cartridge, but only managed to get it through eBay many years later, and the episode he'd have done of it on YouTube would have all the views ever.

I want to see the environment used a lot more. Scott messed with environments a bit before, and that led to some freaky moments. Wider variety of robots would be nicer to see too.

I want Scott to change the formula. Preferably a new location, but he /has/ to throw in a giant wrench so that people that played 5N@F and try to do the same thing they did before get decked m8. Something that's so different that people don't know what to expect for an entire week.

That'd be pretty cool, although to add to that, I'd say the sequel Four Weeks in Freddyland could be more "Night Trap", with park-wide interactivity beyond two lights, two doors, and an array of cameras. It'd be similar to 5N&F only you can trigger doors and lights all around the park, along with later security permissions enabling you to activate rides at will to distract the animatronics and enable the survival of the teens and urbexers that snuck in after hours and got caught in the "lock-in", whilst trying to ensure your own safety in the security office as usual.
pewdiepie played it
Well unlike Amnesia and Slender it's not exactly easy to emulate/mod this game so we won't see a resurgence in shitty content because all of Pewdiepie's drones started shitting out clones and mods for him to play.
Which means the game only got more publicity and the dev more money.

It's seriously only a matter of time until people try to learn Multimedia Fusion so they can create their own 5N@F games and spinoffs. I don't doubt that there are people who will do that.
