Don't worry, Overkill has said that they wouldn't get rid of any main characters.
And one really cool thing about the levels is that you don't have to complete the main objective. For example: You're playing the jewelry store heist when you realize that there's just way too many law enforcers pouring in and that there's no way you're ever gonna get that tiara in time, so now you can just grab the loot bags and get the hell out of there. Of course the pay-off won't be as big, but still it's a lot better than just failing the heist.
Holy shit that is amazing, if they can pull this game off correctly then I'll surely pick it up.
Here's an IGN article with 2 videos showing off how different each heist playtrough might be.

Gameplay and commentary with gamespot
lookin pretty good
I'm really hoping cops won't simply be cannon fodder this time around. I'd prefer few cops that are smart, take cover properly and dynamically, that are more menacing individually than an endless horde that can only wish to stop you by forming a wall of corpses. Heck, even if that means it's preferable to keep cops "supressed" rather than killing then it would be an improvement.
I want to be excited but the first game doesn't even feel like it's done. It was also grindy as fuck, started to take too fucking long to level after 100 or so. Besides, does anybody remember how horrible the launch of the first game was? I am going to wait and see if the game lives up to the hype after it releases.
What I'm not too keen on seeing: The mass amounts of screen flashing and shaking when getting shot / firing a weapon.
What I'm keen on seeing: Cops actually have leg hitboxes.
There should be a cops vs. robbers mode, where 4 players are cops and the other 4 are robbers.
there needs to be the 4 robbers that we all know and love, and the 4 cops could be some unique new black ops soldiers.
Sort of like to see a video where they don't instantly fuck up. The IGN 'stealth playthrough' got fucked up even faster than some of the guns blazing ones.

Their job is essentially to play video games.
And they can't.
Time for a career change.

That always bugged me, people who can't play videogames for shit working as a gamemag journalists.
It's like talking about quality of meat when you are a vegetarian.

Not everybody has elite skills at every video game ever.
hopefully wolf will be the same with his silly swedish accent

Elite skills? What a stupid argument.
Being bad at aiming and dying a lot if forgivable. Running up to a guard with your gun pointed at them and your scary mask on, when trying to be 'stealthy' is just being stupid.
Not everyone is good at everything, but having basic observational skills and common sense is a given for anyone regardless of what genre they play the most.
Of course most of the characters will be the same, they're the developers.

No, they aren't.
No, they aren't.
Yes, they are.
The cops picked up the jewellery bags; I did not expect that.
Oh, I didn't know that.
I was thinking about their voice actors and personality, sorry.
It depends on your actions.
You can do it stealthy and leave without the coppers even knowing that you where there, or you can go in guns blasting and get ready for hell.
In one of the interviews they said that if you kept all the civilians alive the cops might wait behind their cars trying to analyze the situation and negotiate with you before they breach the building. If you go on a killing spree though the cops will pretty much do anything to take you down directly.
Could you stealth in the first game? I'm sure on some portions but i'm wondering like the entire thing.
Like on the first bank in 1, you can't just pickpocket the manager and keep hidden. You have to go into full heist mode and take him hostage in order to get the key card and then the suicidal rambo wanna be cops just come flowing in like water in a waterfall.

Maybe I just sucked at the first game :\

It was kind of possible to be stealthy in the No Mercy heist, if you took out all the cameras on time, kept all civilians in check, played the undercover hospital worker part properly and shut down the fuse box for the right door in time, you could have stayed completely calm in all that time, but as I recall you still have to take out your guns at that point.

If you do it right, No Mercy can be stealthed all the way to cutting the right wire, where guns must be drawn to cut the box. The stealthing ends there. Interestingly, when you take your gun out so you can cut the wire, AI Bots will stay calm and disguised till you're seen with a gun out, so you don't suddenly get shot in the back while cutting.
Counterfeit can be stealthed mostly, you must not allow ANY civialians to escape to the street, or ever be outside and seen. [del]Only use Silenced pistols and take out the few curious police only once they're inside and the neighboring houses won't see them killed.[/del] Hide in the downstairs till the police get down there, and quickly take them out. Try to use a small gun or melee them. Silenced works too. Eventually the onslaught will start due to 4 or so missing and unresponsive police officers.
Diamond Heist is the only Heist that can be 100% stealthed (Not including raising the alarm by breaking the glass)
Diamond Heist is the only Heist that can be 100% stealthed (Not including raising the alarm by breaking the glass)
I've done Diamond Heist in something like 1m50s, using all stealth.
Diamond Heist is a cakewalk if you know what you're doing, and are lucky with the guard placement.
Just the other night my friend and I managed to have him putting up the jammers while I wait near the vault.
Him: Isn't this meant to be hard?
Me: It's on Overkill at the moment, so kinda.
Bain: "I count 12 guar- Alright you got the codes, head down to the vault! Alright guys, it's opening, head in and get the gems!"
Him: Huh.
[editline]23rd March 2013[/editline]
I was talking to my friend, questioning how the devs spoke about 'mask mods' in the interviews. It seems to be just something like different styles and such for your mask, but I wondered if it would be an actual mask modification that gives you an advantage.
He said he didn't like the idea of it.
12:34 PM - Jarey: "Smoke bomb! Good thing I've got thermal vision!"
And suddenly he's hooked on the idea. Because honestly, who wouldn't mind a few small advantages here and there. Thermal Vision, Special Units / Guards become marked for longer...
I don't like it. I'd rather things like that come from the different spec trees.
This game looks like it is going to be doubly awesome than Payday 1. I love all the various features they are adding.
Fuckin' Marphy Black

Did that on the highest (regular) difficulty, leveled up 20 times. Shit's hilarious.

To bad it's annoying as shit to do some times.
Half of the times, I'll fuck up and a guard will see me, or I'll get alway through the beginning, and then the codes don't work.
