You gotta learn how to get around parries.
You can feint, its the easiest and by far the most effective way to do it.

I hate how two thirds of most teams completely ignore objectives.
The only reason anybody goes to that trebuchet is because that's where the kills are. It's TDM all day every day for most people.

I just top the scoreboard by letting the retard chase kills and doing the objectives myself with the sensible people
I mostly use my weapon for self defense anymore
I always feel cool when I dodge & block my way through the crowd of people around the treb/ballistas and kill the guy doing an objective, then keep everyone else at bay long enough for teammates to arrive
Defence is Piss easy, all you do is just get the attention of the horde and lure them on a wild goose chase.
Slay the archers you come across as their don;t have tunnel vision so much as their FoV is that of looking down a straw and you'll top the scoreboard in no time.
Players falling for the goose chase is almost as bad (and often is the same thing) as players who ignore the objectives.
i'm a fan of high FOV and have been playing on 120 FOV all this time
was a huge change to go down to 90, but much more preferable

They limited it to 90 or something?

I never could play over 100, the "Quake Fishbowl" is nauseating.
They limited it to 90 or something?
no no, was experimenting with my FOV settings and had a better time playing with 90 than 120

I use 106 on 16:9 since that's equivalent to 90 on 4:3, but with more on the sides.

So you want to play archer?
As an archer I can confirm this.
i think i'm getting better
i've been playing a lot of duel to practice my 1v1 skills, and currently i have about 100 wins and 50 loses
First impressions of Chivalry:
1: I fucking suck
2: HELP MEEEEEE
First day: I was terrible.
Second day: I was fairly good.
...
Seventh day: I was kicking everyone's arses.
Eighth day: I didn't play.
Nineth day: I was terrible again, maybe worse than the first day.
I'm still afraid of playing. I'll just hate myself and ragequit.
Yeah my first day I think I was actually pretty good, even better the second day, and then it just sort of went downhill. Now it's kind of on and off if I'm doing okay or not.
Maybe because there are more people using exploitative mechanics that make it impossible to fight them fairly.

ragequitting is the only way to truly quit chivalry.
and then you come back an hour later.

I'll have you know it took me 6 months to come back!
the game's fun, but quite a few things are incredibly frustrating for me
first - how slow the swings are, blocking is way too easy and it's really nauseatingly frustrating seeing the hilt of a zweihander reach you at 1 km/h and lop your head clean off
two - some blows are fucking impossible to hit with, for example, pretty much anything with the double axe, most vertical strikes, horizontal strikes with daggers, any ranged weapon
three - how all blows of the same kind deal the same amount of damage, no matter how well or poorly they hit, which means a lot of deaths for me whenever I try to backstab a zweihander wielding vanguard as a man at arms since he just starts swinging at whatever he's facing and he kills me without even knowing I'm there
unspeakably frustrating
im sorry but that's just you. after you get the hang of it and learn some fighting techniques you'll enjoy it more.

If blocking is so easy, why are you getting killed by these "Super slow" swings?
two - some blows are fucking impossible to hit with, for example, pretty much anything with the double axe, most vertical strikes, horizontal strikes with daggers, any ranged weapon
Trust me, you can hit people with anything.
three - how all blows of the same kind deal the same amount of damage, no matter how well or poorly they hit, which means a lot of deaths for me whenever I try to backstab a zweihander wielding vanguard as a man at arms since he just starts swinging at whatever he's facing and he kills me without even knowing I'm there
That's just wrong, there's a damage multiplier that's based on how close you are to their head. Besides, you should be able to avoid him is he's not looking at you.
I don't want to come off as an ass, but I think all of these can be rectified by practice.
[editline]23rd July 2013[/editline]
I will say, however that the number of people that abuse the fact that swings do full damage no matter how far along they are has grown enormously on duel servers.
I used to be pretty good, now I can't win shit because so many people are bending over backwards and pulling random insta-hit bullshit.
It's feigning for the new age.

If you're going to play this game give up all notions of fairness and start mousedragging around shields

MaA is fun as fuck.
If you're going to play this game give up all notions of fairness and start mousedragging around shields
Mousedragging in its purest form isn't an issue. It's merely delaying swings slightly, whereas feinting delays your swing by exactly enough that you can't hope to parry if you fell for it.
feinting is unclassy and those who does it should be burned
During the reign of feinting, I did not hear a single argument for it's use being fair other than "Get better at the game and feint too idiot".
