If they're mouse-dragging and feinting there is no defence.
Mousedrag (assuming delay) feinting is the easiest to fight, the only thing feints have going for them is the speed. If they slow it down just tap kick them and profit from the massive amount of lost stamina.
In other news, I met a guy who was sextuple feinting with the brandistock. He did really bad but it was funny as hell.
i wish feints could only be used defensively to cancel an attack in order to block or avoid hitting a teammate or whatever
Why
Feints are a good defense against shitlords who try to waste my time by fighting very slowly
I just realized today that you can block projectiles (including shields and ninja stars) with any weapon
My life just got a whole lot easier

One of the most improbable ragdoll positions I've gotten
Would have made a decapitating gif but it was in duel
Got into a game with a dev

Kicks will have to be faster or have a shorter recovery time for this to be anything but risky as fuck.

Kicks are extremely fast.
If they're using a short weapon that's too fast to kick, just stay out of range.
I can't get around how odd some of the dagger animations are.

nothing quite like stabbing your victim to death serial killer style while laughing the whole time
I can't get around how odd some of the dagger animations are.
Thats the point, it is a high-risk/high-reward kind of play style in which you use your quick and indirect strikes to overwhelm your opponent.
In return you have to get in their face and generally their weapons kill you in 1/2 hits.

You. I've fought you not long ago. My name was Bahamut-Surge.
okay i just ragequitted hard as fuck time to vent
i feel like the people that say TB ruined this game are the exact people that make it shitty. the so called "pros" only use shitty exploits to get by (every level past 45 i've seen does the look-down shit while overheading)
like this guy i was dueling a few moments ago, all he was doing was kicking and then looking down and overheading with the grand mace. this is essentially unblockable as you are powerless to stop it (especially me as a knight, there is no dodging kicks)
his name was Snow, if anyone cares
i know this thread is mostly us bitching about the game features but damn shit got me heated hard as fuck
I'm incredibly glad that for the most part nobody on the non-duel servers in Australia uses anything more than the occasional lookdown overhead, although I don't see many knights doing it. The worst you get are feinters who are technically a different class of knave.
Now, six archers a side is a completely different problem, but I'd rather have that than people using exploits because mlg pro. I tried going to a classc-duel server. What I got instead of a fun fight was a bunch of animation-breaking assholes.

Why is it an exploit? Because you say it is?
Why is it an exploit? Because you say it is?
its pretty lame how a weapon thats meant to be slow can be sped up to the point where i have literally 0 zero chance of dodging it or even blocking it
im talking about when they look down all the way and overhead btw
also kicks in general are just pretty shitty. i can stop 50-pound stone hammers being smashed into my shield by not some dude's foot?

You can parry this. I do it plenty.

Stop trying to make sense of the game, it is what it is

This is the equivalent of saying shotgun switching in Gunz Online wasn't an exploit. Just because no one ever got banned for it didn't make it any less of an exploit of game mechanics. It's very telling that mousedragging in Deadliest Warrior got quite a damage nerf. Gives you an idea of how they feel about it.

I am of the opinion that it doesn't matter how the devs feel about it. If you adapt to the mechanics Chivalry is a very fun game, mousedrags and feints included.

I don't know about mousedragging, but I think I've made my opinion on feints clear.
"it doesn't bother me so the problem doesn't exist" is a terrible argument.

"guys how a dev feels about the game you're playing particularly when you're exploiting and ruining the balance they built the game around is irrelevant who told these guys they were allowed to have an opinion on how the game works"

Eh..
The same people who complain about lookdown-overheads are probably the same people who complained about facehugging (before and after the patches to it), feinting (before and after the patches to it), and mouse-dragging.
They don't understand what's going on mechanically and call it an exploit.

Feints are the worst and if you genuinely think short sword or trifork stab feints are spottable you must be playing on 20ms or something.
I always play at least <100ms and even if it spikes: yes. It's fine and completely manageable. If someone feints more than once then you can expect to check their bluff... Especially when their weapon has a massive wind-up time.
You could fairly argue against them pre-patch, but now they're just for killing rank0-15 newbies.. You hardly need nerves of steel, but if you're REALLY that twitchy then just use a shield.

I seriously do not see how you can reliably spot a stab feint with either of those weapons I mentioned. Whenever I wait for the cut off point, at 50ms-80ms, I just get hit because it's too late to block it. I can often outrun a short sword stab feint after falling for it, but with the spears I can rarely do anything effective if I'm at close range and they feint me, unless they are predictable.

Feinting is not an exploit, but mouse-drag and lookdown-overheads certainly are. If you understand the mechanic it's pretty obvious that those who know how to abuse it (aka mouse-dragging) have a leg up on anyone who doesn't. Can they actually fight you if you do it and they don't? Of course, but it puts them at a significant disadvantage.
Just because bunny-hopping in Quake was accepted by the community at large doesn't make it any less of an exploit. And yes, I bunny-hopped back then too, just like I mouse-drag in Chivalry today. The difference is that bunny-hopping added dimension to the game, just like Skiing in Tribes. Mouse-drag makes long ranged, powerful weapons attack just as fast as short, weak weapons. Rather than add to/improve gameplay, it completely disrupts intended balance while giving the game nothing in return. Frankly, it's not very fun.

No it is intended to have real time control over your weapons, and if you could not control the speed of your swings then almost nothing would get past people's blocks. The entire point of having control over the blade is to be able to mix up the fight instead of just having an endless fight of hitting and blocking.
You can easily block any dragged swing, it is about learning timing and restraint.
Hence the reason torn banner is not removing it, but balancing it by having less damage at the start and end of a swing. It is not an exploit but an advertised feature.
And honestly it is a bullshit argument to say "oh these guys who know dragging have a leg up on people who dont". I mean come on, anyone who has played a while knows what dragging is, only new players don't and that same reasoning could be said about anything in this game.
"Oh people who know foot work have a leg up on people who dont because they can rotate around blocks!!!"
This is a skill based game and if a person has taken the time to learn a skill such as dragging then that is his investment into being better and if it pays off then that is fair. There is nothing stopping anyone from learning dragging and a quick youtube search can show anyone anything they need to know about fighting in chiv. It is all about taking the initiative, if a person doesn't learn fast they lose fights and that can't be blamed on other people.
something about DW feels a bit off
I think it's the higher speed of combat not working well with the server fps or something

There's a massive difference between simple dragging and taking advantage of the system to ensure your hits impact nigh-instantly.
If you're staring at the fucking ground when you start your swing, then you should choke on a million dicks.
I have no issue with people dragging as long as they aren't taking it to absurd levels.

Dragging is fine as far as I'm concerned, but when a knight is running at me while staring at the ground it just looks ridiculous and I know the player is a massive bellend.
