I still like my idea of having Grim Patron have 5 attack instead of 3 (makes it more viable on its own and unable to synergize with Warsong Commander), but [b]that[/b]? Jeez...
Holy shit, that nerf to patron is brutal. RIP in peace patron. I always thought Frothing Beserker was the problem. My idea for the nerf was to only have minions with 3 attack or less have charge but not minions that go over that.

Ouch talk about overkill, should've been something like "Minions with 3 or less attack [b]have[/b] charge" No more insane Frothing OTKs and buffing your Patrons with Inner Rages and Cruel Taskmasters would lose them charge.
Time to rebuild my Wallet Warrior deck

Its the same as raid leader (terrible card) except it has +1 health and only affects charge

They could have fixed Patron Warrior, a genuinely pretty cool deck that is fun to play that makes use of previously useless cards by simply making it so Warsong/Frothing had less health and Battle Rage wasn't so effective. That would have gotten rid of the massive 70+ combos, and hurt the consistency enough to make it still a great deck but not a deck that just runs over everything in the right hands.

Forgot Raid Leader costed 3 mana as well, for some reason I thought it was only 2 mana.
So Warsong Commander is now worse than a card that is so bad and unplayed that I don't remember it's stats correctly.
I can't really imagine a Warrior deck that would even use this new Warsong.
If we're utterly removing the Patron deck, couldn't they at least nerf Warsong to something usable, like say minions with 2 attack have charge? It's not like the Warrior class has more charge related cards than any the others (Druid is probably on par with the amount of charge cards).

That would have killed patron too though
patron's only problem was that you could combo massive frothings super easily. If you hurt the ability for that to be done (by making it so frothing can't survive more than one or so whirlwinds) then you still have a viable deck that no longer pulls insane combos
The other part of the problem was that with battle rage it was ridiculously easy to draw your deck into a winning combo. Making it so it wasn't as easy to do that would make it so pulling of an 8 card combo is actually hard like it should be.
making it a 2/1 or making it not give charge to minions that gain more than 3 attack are both solutions that would fix the problem and keep the card playable. that change is just lazy
Maybe if they made the bonus to charge minions more substantial than "+1 attack" it could see some play in some sort of charge warrior, but the deck will still be a gimmick with better alternatives for just going for the face.

well duh, killing patron warrior is not the problem here
the problem is that they could've kept it as a gimmicky yet not unplayable card while still nerfing patron warrior, but instead they took the easy route and made it useless

I read a good argument for this nerf on the reddit
Basically amounts to the reason why it was nerfed like this is because mass-charge is a shitty mechanic to begin with (remember old UTH?) and pretty much every future card made would have to be balanced against Warsong to not allow huge easy un-fun combos to happen. Doing a change like this ensures that Charge isn't used for OTK combos that can never be defended against but for aggro (that can be defended against) or as a means of removal.
Kind of like how for Miracle Rogue, Auctioneer was over-nerfed after Leeroy preemptively in anticipation for all the spare parts that would soon flood the game.
Still, they could have made this card not useless. Maybe if it gave +3 attack or +2/+1. Right now it is straight up worse than raid leader which already sucks.
woulda been cool if it reduced the mana cost of charge minions or something

That'd actually be an interesting mechanic, better than what I've said; probably wouldn't go so well with a 5/4 body, since we already have something like a Stormwind Champion, but if you somehow manage to keep at least 2 Secrets up by the time you play it, a lot of hurtin' will happen (and god help the opponent if you have 3).
So that said, it'll never exist because Blizzard wouldn't want something interesting like that. :ohno:

It's not over the top in Hearthstone, it's a standard nerf. Sadly said standard is "let's run this card (and deck it's played in) into the ground, then nerf it some more"
