I find magic and archery in TES fun. The melee is awful but could easily be improved.
Actually Bows and Crossbows are pretty dang neat and fun. [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] Magic would be fun if I wasn't getting fucked over all the time.
The only reason I enjoyed melee combat on my recent playthrough was because of the gore mod that makes killing a lot more visceral, adds satisfying death screams, and obviously, more gore other than decapitations. Without mods combat is pretty much a spamfest affair of whatever you are using, and with mods it still doesn't change the fact that melee weapons, arrows, and magic have almost no feeling when used against a target that is still alive. The stagger animation is really slow and doesn't feel like much. Magic effects boil down to a guy running toward you with mediocre fire particles emanating off him, sparks on him that disperse, or a frost glow shader that slows the person down. Getting hit has more of a feeling then hitting something. Diablo games have more visceral impacts with weapons, they make you feel like you are doing damage. I mean jesus even PSX-era JRPGs have better hit animations for attacking enemies and those are turn based. It is completely possible for Bethesda to make several differing hit animations and that alone would make melee combat more satisfying. I don't even know why they haven't done this, especially given their insistence on moving away from RPG systems in favor or more action-oriented combat. Fuck, I think it might be time to play some more chivalry, or maybe reinstall Dark Messiah.
Dream Screams? holy shit yes what's the mod?
Man I really just want to spend an enitre day working on my mod just so i can push it out asap Im itching to replay skyrim but i dont want to without my mod :v: and without that movement mod :p
Punches-Your-Buns
Also, the argonian needs to be buff, and tuff-tootin'
Suddenly it occurred to me that it's silly that noone's made a coop mod for this. I think I'll do this since I already have a way to control an actor's movement worked out. EDIT: Although then again, NPCs could probably get out of sync easily. Luckily I think TES already has proper unique IDs for NPCs so I could have an authoritative player force position/AI data for nearby NPCs. RNG rolls might end up hacky too. Actually, screw worrying, I'm the master of reverse engineering and can do everything.
Good luck, Altimor. You'll be a hero if you succeed.
Good luck, Altimor. You'll be a hero if you succeed.
To be more specific, people have been trying since Oblivion, through Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and still haven't made significant progress by Skyrim.
Yea and noone's made a player physics mod either My ego is so massive it overrides reality and I can do anything
Except marry a flame atronach, it will always be hollow.
Except marry a flame atronach, it will always be hollow.
no i'm working on inventing magic irl to summon one EDIT: imma call this skynet

Skyrim online looked promising a while back, but they never got beyond "Naked guys running around looking at each other"
I could ignore almost all issues I have with Skyrim for Co-op. Skyrim online looked promising a while back, but they never got beyond "Naked guys running around looking at each other"
Too much fighting between 3 different groups making online. People backstabbing eachother, stealing code, and eventually the smallest group merging with one of the larger ones to get some shit done. It's always like that. If it's closed source you can guarantee it'll never see the light of day.
Making an online mod isn't going to be near as easy as the player physics mod, there's a lot more variables in play.
I've checked the progress of VaultMP even now, and it's only recently gotten to adding very basic enemies. I doubt Skyrim will be much different.
Does anyone know any good Necromancy mods?

Why do people do this. I was super eager for my powerful mage to finally utilize slowing time, I could finally afford the book to teach me to cast this amazing spell! I assumed it would be a power with a long cooldown or a spell that cost a lot off magicka. Nope, a free power with zero cooldown. I still want a challenge jesus. If you think Bethesda is bad at balance, modders don't even come close to having any experience at all.
no i'm working on inventing magic irl to summon one EDIT: imma call this skynet
I should buy you a title saying "MacGyver of Skyrim" You'll make real life magic from a pair of rotten bananas and a kidney stone. Skyrim co-op from Saarthal's leftover code. Enjoyable melee combat from the aforementioned two.
If you think Bethesda is bad at balance, modders don't even come close to having any experience at all.
Not everyone cares about balance, especially for a game that has none to start with
Not everyone cares about balance, especially for a game that has none to start with
There's a huge line between "I don't focus on balance" and "here's a free sword in Riverwood that will destroy anything you encounter".
There's a huge line between "I don't focus on balance" and "here's a free sword in Riverwood that will destroy anything you encounter".
Yes, and your point is? If I say I don't care about balance it means I don't care about balance, not "I care about balance a little less".
An elder scrolls game probably shouldn't be balanced. It should be like a real world for your character to live in and a "real" world isn't fair. The world shouldn't decide "you won't see any ebony because you're not level 30" Because that's stupid. They should only realy "balance" where it'd make sense. A powerful spell should use more magicka, a sword made of a lighter material should be easier to swing but would suffer more on impact.... so on and so forth.
And then your character dies of malaria.
They should only realy "balance" where it'd make sense. A powerful spell should use more magicka, a sword made of a lighter material should be easier to swing but would suffer more on impact.... so on and so forth.
Steel is both lighter and more durable than iron (unless you overshoot the carbon content and it becomes brittle, but that's faulty steel forging anyway). Learn about how stuff works in real life before ranting about how stuff should work like in real life.

A++, you're going places with your justifying and logic.
They should only realy "balance" where it'd make sense. A powerful spell should use more magicka, a sword made of a lighter material should be easier to swing but would suffer more on impact.... so on and so forth.
And you're completely missing the point of fantasy; it's not realistic. It's a fantasy, something where things don't need to follow the same laws as the real world. The Elder Scrolls have always been a fantasy world, just because you fail to grasp it doesn't make it any less of one. You're entitled to have an opinion, but to say that it should change into something without any kind of reasoning behind your claims other than it being "stupid" because you say so is in itself stupid.
Steel is both lighter and more durable than iron (unless you overshoot the carbon content and it becomes brittle, but that's faulty steel forging anyway). Learn about how stuff works in real life before ranting about how stuff should work like in real life.
And were we to take realism into account, there is no fucking way you could even survive in heavy armor considering almost every single one of them is made of metals. A single lightning spell would make you a living lightning conductor and fry your brains, your organs or straight-out just kill you. Realism has no place in a world like Skyrim unless you only do it where you feel like it. And by then it's no longer realism.
