The Elder Scrolls Megathread XV: A Song of Ice and Draugr

So far, I'm a little disappointed in Dragonborn because it feels a bit too much like the main game. Half of Solstheim is just snowy mountains, just like Skyrim, and the main quest has been mostly about fighting more of the same enemies I'm familiar with.
Doesn't help that I'm still somewhat let down by not being able to level up efficiently.
Come to think of it, it's almost like somebody lit a desire demon from DA on fire.

I'm not entirely sure how Bethesda got that model from "fire demon from another plane".
I get the impression you dislike Flame Atronachs. I'm going to add a duel mode to Skynet so I can kill you and dance around on your corpse.

Dude DA:O Desire Demon is probably the hottest demon model I've seen in any game.
If the Flame Atronach from Skyrim took influences from it, I wouldn't mind two shits.

I don't dislike atronachs, it's just that my experiences with them consist of me summoning them and running like hell because a pure mage is squishy.
[editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
Then again, I don't play pure mage much because by the time "hey, maybe a summoned creature would help" crosses my mind, my magicka has long since dried up and some asshole is hitscanning me half to death with lightning.

Get Conjuration to 100 so you can have Flame Thralls. They never disappear, have greatly upgraded stats and regenerate health. You don't need to remember to summon because they're already there. Not that I need that since I'm always thinking about Flame Atronachs anyways.

Eh, the desire demon just has skimpy clothing, it's not nearly as pretty as the Flame Atronach.
The internet truly is a place for normal people with reasonable interests

Personally I was very disappointed by the main quest of Dragonborn. It is extremely short and not that interesting to me.
I liked Dawnguard much better in that regard.
Solstheim is fairly boring on the outside too, but at least they added a good bunch of extra content, and holy shit the dungeons are good compared to vanilla Skyrim. Their puzzles are much better, and the sidequests are pretty good too.
Also flying on dragons? lel.

I think its a joke that only a few people are in on.
I hope so anyway.

I think the problem is that Solstheim is Skyrim: Lite Edition. That worked fine in Morrowind because it was different, but now it's just more snowy mountains.

While I'm in the thread, I found a bug in your movement mod you may or may not be aware of: using the bat cloud power in VL form makes the movement speed stick until you land and take off again. The result is sliding everywhere at the speed of sound.
Do you guys know if there's a quest to defeat the Thalmor in Skyrim? If not, is there a mod that lets you do that?
Do you guys know if there's a quest to defeat the Thalmor in Skyrim? If not, is there a mod that lets you do that?
There's that one quest for the Graymane jewelry merchant.
What? Not only did I admit to have not played Morrowind, I didn't say the main quest wasn't its own reward.
This is all superfluous to the debate, though. Sure, the writing's better but that doesn't change the fact that it still uses the Chosen One idea, just like Skyrim. The details are different, and the details are what make it what it is, but we're not talking about the details, we're talking about the foundation.
What you did with that post was create a retort that would have been a brilliant response, had I actually been talking about what you seem to think I am.
In Skyrim, you're told you're the chosen one and made to go kill Alduin. People hail you as the chosen one, because they need a hero and they're culturally inclined to rally behind one.
In Morrowind you're not told that you're the chosen one, and set on a path that leads you to destroying the Heart of Lorkhan. People don't hail you as the chosen one because most of them don't realise anything is amiss, and those that do are skeptical (after all, why would you want the Nerevarine when you have the Tribunal?).
From what I can see, its heavily inferred that the PC is the Nerevarine; and whether or not you're outright told that doesn't matter.
you should play morrowind
I wouldn't have minded if they used the oblivion storm atronach model for every atronach, only with different reskins and particle effects. Then they could probably have resized the thing/changed the intensity of the lighting/particle effects and had things like "lesser fire atronach, Greater storm atronach, Grand frost atronach.. and so on. Though they're welcome to use different models. That way we could have manly fire atronach and sexy frost atronach. It'd be great all ways.
That might make a good mod actually, you could have a shout/ability where you speak with such a screech your enemies shake and shudder in surprise.
Believe me, I want to; but there's too many issues with it.
I can get over the diceroll combat and the dialogue stuff but smaller things like the inventory system and the stationary NPCs ruin it for me.
I can't get immersed in it, and so me attempting to play it results in a fairly rapid "fuck it" and alt-f4.

I'm pretty sure there's mods for the combat and more active NPCs. Plus the Morrowind Overhaul mod helps a lot.
If worse came to worse, that Morroblivion mod is complete I believe. Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't quite capture the atmosphere of Morrowind, but it's better than nothing.
Morrowind feels really desolate and lifeless to me

I thought about trying Morrolivion, but I have difficulty playing Oblivion now also.

I'm sorry but what's wrong with the inventory system.
I had trouble with morrowind for a lot of reasons, I don't recall the inventory being one of them.
Skyrim's default UI on the other hand, is atrocious and I can't play the game without SkyUI, although I would prefer a new UI altogether.
I'm sorry but what's wrong with the inventory system.
I prefer having things in a nice list, rather than some strange icon system.
Thank the Nines. I should have found out much earlier about Daggerfall's cheats that can teleport me next to the quest objectives. Daggerfall's dungeons enjoys placing quest objectives in secret rooms that are forking impossible to find.
... now if only dungeons were smaller.
I like how Flame Atronachs keep their color in the snowy post processing.
I bet you have secret Flame Atronachs porn stash.
i love the conjuration tree I use it on like every single one of my characters
which is weird cause I didn't use it at all in oblivion really
[editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
tryin to figure out a viable playstyle to build around being a vampire but it seems like the only thing that really works is getting lot of magicka regen so you can heal yourself hmm

Why would I have a stash when I can just go to paheal tho
Is magicka regen capped in combat? Or is it just a certain percentage of your full magicka regen?
I made my first conjurer last night. I wasn't expecting it to be as strong as it is. The character is squishy as fuck but the summons really help. And the bound weapons deal some serious damage. I'm trying to get my enchanting up so I can wear armor that benefits my new mage.

bound bow is ridiculously good early on until later on when you can get a daedric bow and enchant it or something

Oh, yeah. Nexus + modding skills = hot.
Morrowind feels really desolate and lifeless to me
Desolate is absurdly hard to establish - some people can stomach the vanilla aesthetic and peer through to the rest of the content; for the rest of us there's the MGE's grasses, LGNPC, MCA, abot's mods - so on and so forth. But that doesn't give enough credit to the construction of the world itself: save for the technical limitations of '02 that manifest mostly in a fairly miserable heightmap limit, I've never seen denser and somewhat more varied in environments, settlements, and the politics that throbs underneath them - Skyrim offloads most of that effort to the scenery of the world itself.
The province mods follow that approach to world creation, and that's why I'm not hitching my boat to Skywind: a modern aesthetic's (offset somewhat by MGE, but the cost is ridiculous) a shallow trade for what'll be suboptimal execution of the dialogue system and a wave-off to the rest of the world that's forming about it.
I might make this but if I do it'll play spooky scary skeletons on loop and you won't be able to turn it off

I have waited for opportunities to post my videos on fp
one has finally come

You just need a bit of imagination when playing morrowing just like a bunch of old RPG's. It's no more "lifeless" than baulder's gate or classic fallout.
The worst thing about Morrowind's "lifelessness" is that the NPC's stay in place, the doors never lock and all the generic NPC's, while having a shit ton more dialog than any of the oblivion/skyrim ones, all act as basically wiki's on the surrounding area and various topics (with the same lines regurgitated between all the generic NPCs) instead of being more individual. Which really, isn't much different than skyrim/Oblivion, except they actually give you a bunch of info if you want to learn more about the local flavor/lore.
Good thing there are mods that fix both of those. Living Cities of Vvardenfel make it so NPC's basically do what they do in oblivion/skyrim - have schedules and doors locked at night, etc. AFAIK, they'll even follow you through cells, which isn't normally possible in Morrowind. It's not perfect - they won't wander around between interior/exterior cells on their own accord (it only works with follower logic IIRC) because the engine doesn't really support it, but they'll spawn and show up in different places depending on the time of day (shopping at X hour, working at Y hour, being at the tavern at Z hour, etc). Less generic NPC project makes it so the NPC's don't all regurgitate the same "wiki" of information. Then of course there's the mod that adds a ton of wandering people of various professions in taverns, towns, roads, etc that make the towns feel more lively (and they won't talk to you, which is pretty realistic of most people).

Yes but I don't have imagination
