The Elder Scrolls Megathread XV: A Song of Ice and Draugr

I wonder if they're even working on TES 6. I don't think we've heard anything about it.
I want them to take all the time they need to figure out how to make combat less shitty. It'd probably help if they would just commit to a viewpoint. Some games work fine with both(chivalry, mount and blade) and some games have combat that would only work well from one viewpoint(Dark Souls, Dishonored). TES games don't come close to any of those games in terms of combat quality. I think part of the issue is that TES combat used to have a lot more freedom, but they've focused too much on streamlining the combat and removing the game-breaking potential from a lot of things without considering what they were doing to the overall quality. The result is that you have two attack types for a handful of weapon classes that all end up feeling the same. There's so much they could do with all the weapons they have, but all they really tweaked was swing speed and how likely the attack is to stagger the enemy. A dagger would be great as a weapon that rewarded precise strikes with high damage, but in the end it just behaves like a smaller, faster sword. Blocking feels useless because even the best shield is still going to let damage through, so you might as well just chug potions and spam attacks. A well timed block isn't rewarded, you can't parry, there's no proper dodge function, and as a result melee combat has no finesse, no depth, and no skill curve.

Fallout 4 is likely coming first.
I've taken him on.

I got his quest and when I went to meet him he wouldn't talk to me at all so I attacked him, it completed the quest so all was good.

There isn't really a quest, all he does is stand there and you're expected to attack him. Pretty lazy on Bethesda's part but hey ho.

Fallout 4's probably next on their list, and who knows how long that will take for them to revamp Creation to work with guns, bombs, and Liberty Prime take 2.
What the game lacks is complete immersion, it actually feels like there's almost none to very little at all.
Despite being a non-canon catgirl, it's a really nice looking model. Wish Bethesda put more work like that into the normal models.

it's just depth of field, focus is whatever's in the middle which is usually what i'm looking at

Not always good things, but new.

That chick aint an ohmes raht, just a mod for catgirl fans.

He meant the Ohmes.
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ohmes
The Ohmes is the most Mer-like Khajiit. They are shorter than a Bosmer and have similar pointed ears. Unlike other Khajiit they have no fur, no tail, and no naturally occuring distinguishable Khajiit feature. To distinguish themselves from Mer, the Ohmes usually paint their faces with 'catlike' war paint.
There are several species of Khajit all with varying levels of cat resemblance.

I dun goofed
Whether or not she's actually lore friendly, do you think the mod creator decided to make a follower who was a specific sub-species of Kajit who they felt was under represented in the tes games or that they wanted a cat-girl follower and it so happens to fit into the lore?

Does it really matter?
its most likely the latter
but yea does it matter
The problem with Chivalry's combat is that I feel it doesn't really belongs in a singleplayer game. All the moves are meant to be used on a smart opponent and I don't think it would fit well with just regular AI.
Does it really matter?
You can download mods so that every dragon looks like Margaret Thatcher and you save the world with your entourage of sex slaves; it's not like that matters either. If you want your game to be lore friendly and you consider that catgirl follower mod to be lore friendly then go for it. As long as you're getting what you want out of your Skyrim experience then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

nah, that's easy enough to simulate for AI opponents
It would even give Bethesda the opportunity for good difficulty scaling;
on the easiest setting, only higher level enemies would block, and enemies would attack somewhat randomly, mostly standing still
on the normal setting, enemies would block most of the time, slowly moving
on hard, enemies would block almost all the time and move around more, and use your blocked attacks to time parries
on very hard, enemies would move, block, feint, parry

Third era attributes replaces them with a simple attribute system.
Iron daggers? I just make leather helmets out of the craptons of pelts the wild throws at you and the occasional spam of steel daggers. Going as a currently-corrupting Breton mage, I'm going to need lots of daggers for enchanting. And soul gems. Shame those aren't exactly farmable, my staves are in short supply.
Erm, if you enchant a bow with soul trap you can capture the soul of anyone/anything you kill no matter how long it takes you to kill it.
Also, Star of Azura, that thing is fucking handy.

He could also consider just using bound weapons alot(with the mystic binding perk, or whatever), carrying lots of empty gems. Without even paying attention, and before spending them on my first truly enchanted armor set I was sitting on: 70~ grand soul gems, 40 greater gems, 50 common, 80 lesser, and 110 petty

Well, I don't have much of a magic-oriented character.. I'm on level 100 one-handed and smithing, nearly light armor. I've never invested much in magical perks, I've mostly been a fighter/archer. I have invested a little in destruction magic but it's damn hard now that I'm level 47 and only just using 2nd level destruction spells.
I'm also too far into the game and done so many quests that restarting would just bore me completely. I'm waiting for a new Laptop to buy Skyrim in PC before considering starting the game again.
The most Human looking khajiit variant is supposed to be almost indistinguishable from a bosmer. It doesn't have fucking huge cat ears. The modern leather jacket's also pretty out of place.
It'd be nice if the next game included two or three variants of khajiit/argonian. It doesn't have to show them all, just a few. I'd also like to see sload/moarmer and maybe a few monkey folk next game. It'd be nice to see them at the ports, selling weird foreign shit.
How advisable is it to start a new character on console? I'm level 48 and regretting some moves.
do it
Yeah I think I will.. Here we go.

Damn, I don't want to do light armor again but i also want to be more skilled as a thief. Dammit.

Yep, but have been trying to level up my Destruction since a little flame atronach told me that maxing it out is devastating to those in your way. So for practice, I killed three giants, two mammoths, a dragon, and that Sild guy who so badly wants to be Sheogorath in one day.
