I am liking the beta so far. So far its really the only mmo I have really been able to get into. Maybe because its part of TeS lore and everything. The quests are rather simple, but I just left the starter area so maybe they get better. I really like the music too, sounds really good. [editline]23rd November 2013[/editline]
let me guess, go to x and kill y to get z?
I have only encountered one of those so far.
I played it for an hour, it's pretty shit.
I barely know what the game looks like because it diverts your eyes to the compass at the top, or the health bars of your target below it the entire time you're playing. It just needs... more... visual cues, everywhere, on everything. As an example, for those playing: Find a merchant You'll have to memorize them, or happen to walk by one as they say something like 'Finest wares here'
keep in mind that it is beta. I have some hope that it'll improve with time but realistically it won't.
Server's getting errors. Pretty sure admins are working on fixing it. Everything has an incomplete feel to it. Some things are buggy, some things aren't balanced. The animations are a little weird. Viewpoint was fine for me. I do feel like there needs to be more visual cues on the map, and p much everything else. There was a time where I was trying to collect this little item, and this fucking skeleton archer kept shooting me and I wasn't realising it so it kept killing me all I saw was my HP going down and me being like wtf. As far as a beta goes, it's not terrible, but it's not the best either. It's got a long way to go. It feels very ambitious. I've seen various NPC's eating, and some of the regular citizens trying to go about a daily schedule. I feel like they're maybe trying to make it feel like a living, breathing world which is possibly a mistake. Another thing is that to me, the combat is a curious mesh of Skyrim, and WoW. You've got your hotbar with your abilities, and the melee combat itself isn't all timing or mashing your hotbar, it's about strategy and learning the attack patterns of your enemies. Many quests are bugged, including ones that are main story quests. For Ebonheart Pact you can't even go to to island in Morrowind. Many characters have either voice scripts that don't match up with what they're saying, or they're indian microsoft sam saying exactly what the voice scripts have to say.
Just had a look at the release date, there's plenty of time to fix the main gripes I have with it, but They aren't bugs, they're just my opinions. I doubt any of it will change except maybe making important things like Merchants and shit at least show up on the map It has the exact same journal/quest tracking as Skyrim. Exactly. If it's an MMO having you run around doing quest after quest, you should be able to track more than one at a time, instead of Just one, with only its Icon showing on your compass If I had to choose an MMO to play, between TOR or ESO, I'd choose TOR. And I hate TOR Also, with the Microsoft Sam thing, that's no big deal. It's obviously just hold-in-place assets
to be honest I couldn't make it past an hour or so of gameplay before I just had to quit. this beta event is pushing pretty close to launch (Q1 of 2014), and if they believe they can have a one time purchase and a monthly fee for something of this low a quality then god damn I don't expect this to last any longer than the original APB did without some significant changes.
The compass is cluttered with bullshit. And I hate that I can't find a merchant.
I am liking the beta so far. So far its really the only mmo I have really been able to get into. Maybe because its part of TeS lore and everything.
Ahahahahahaha, they wish.
I like the beta so far. The graphics look nice and the combat works pretty well. There are some mechanics that i'm not a fan of, but other than that I'm pleased with it.
My main problem with ESO so far is that the timing seems a little weird. A lot of the hits seem to connect before the animation even begins, making reactive use of a shield impossible.
My favorite part of the beta is sitting on the menu screen waiting to play after creating my dude All seriousness though. After playing the stress test awhile ago, I'm hyped to level up some more.

Argonians in TESO are Morrowind-level ugly
thank god teso is non-canon
Ha, right. Not if the loremaster has anything to say about it.
It's worse than I thought, TESO's fov is equivalent to "fov 64" in Bethbryo
See over 100 new posts. Realize that's it's all about a non-official Elder Scrolls game called TESO. Damn.
Ha, right. Not if the loremaster has anything to say about it.
You mean Michal kirbrike? The guy who wrote and still writes a majority of the lore? The guy bethesda doesn't like to admit is the only thing keeping it afloat in terms of being unique in a sea of generic fantasy LOTR ripoff games? Because he called it non canon as well.

As long as Bethesda owns the IP, whatever their current employees say is canon, is canon. I'm not big on following the lore, so I don't care, but I find this entire argument pretty entertaining.
not my video
Just remember, this IS a closed beta. The purpose of it is to find bugs and to provide feedback so they can make fix the problems and make the game better for release. If you arent going to provide feedback nor report bugs, dont play.

im not playing anyway cause i dont have an invite lol
Just tried the game out, I'm highly disappointed. It just feels like your typical clunky mmo with no sense of freedom and the combat is pretty dull and laggy.
This thread seems to be filled with mediocrity when it comes to ESO.
My bet is 12-24 months before it becomes free to play. Videos I've seen so far look decent but it seems like Bethesda has hired some BS marketeers, the type of people that claim "online is the future" and "if we don't make an MMO now we'll be extinct in 10 years". I've heard this shit before and it always ends in becoming a WoW ripoff and dying in a few years.

They will have to rely on the trademark IP fans more than the general MMO crowd. Even then, I don't imagine it being financially successful.
I played the beta today and quit as soon as I got to the island. It needs A LOT more development time if it's going to be asking for a monthly charge, as of right now I wouldn't play it even if it was F2P.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17736620/TESO_FOV.exe TESO needs to be running before you use this. It also accepts FOV as an argument, ie "TESO_FOV.exe 74" so you can run it via batch file. Screenie: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17736620/eso_fov.png[/t] It uses signature scanning instead of static addresses so it should be update proof.
Oh no you're breaking the NDA how could you! Also lol that email.
