The Elder Scrolls Megathread XV: A Song of Ice and Draugr
Basically the idea I want to convey here is that Pure Mages need to be super aware of their surroundings and anticipate.
It's like a contrast between night and day for the three major types of combat's difficulties, it's too easy to be a warrior or a stealthy guy in Skyrim, yet playing as a mage in Skyrim is super difficult, and you could easily die if you slip up once.
As a warrior, you don't need to worry about dying because you're built to take the hits and dish them back out.
As a stealthy guy, you just go to run away if they catch you and try again when they think you're gone.
As a mage, you've got to worry about all the factors, such as how many archers there are, how much time can I shove lighting bolt down this guy's throat before he or his friends gets too close to me, how many magicka potions I have to replenish myself if I can't do it fast enough, how close-quarters will the next battle be?
And there's the planning side of it. Being a mage in skyrim takes more foresight than that of any of the other playstyles.
But I can see why you like it that way 1chains1, I've seen you're other posts and I think you like challenging games like that. But I prefer to take it easy in RPGs (unless they're competitive shooters, then I go all out)
And also, it's just when I play as a mage, the only lifeline I get in a tight situation is potions, and running away if I have enough stamina. Warriors don't really need potions often, and stealth characters can easily conceal themselves in the darkness to recover and re-plan.
And this is why I enjoy Spellblades/Battlemages/Mystic Knights. I can choose a school or two of magic and a couple weapons/armor to specialize in and have a playstyle of fighter/mage that can take care of itself. I recall doing a destruction/archery character in which I set runes around my sniping point, took out as many enemies as possible and let the survivors run to me and set off the runes as I prepped my lightning bolts and fireballs when they finally arrived.
Using your environment is essential too. Why waste time wailing at an enemy when you can cause him to set off a trap and get impaled on door spikes or have a bandit get whacked by a large ceiling ram.
I have the urge to reinstall Skyrim.
Install the tropical mod. Install some Conquistador armor, and go around and shoot everyone with a musket.

The Elder Scrolls Megathread XVI: I should really stop talking about the rape mods i'm still using.
Most mages or wizards in fantasy stories and movies carry something for close range, a small one handed sword or atleast a dagger.
One could enchant it so it won't break immersion or something?
I enchant a dagger with absorb magicka so if I run out of it I can just run up to an enemy and slash them a few times to regenerate my pool. I suppose if you're're stubborn one can insist on never using a melee weapon as a "pure" mage, but you'll basically spend the entire game fighting with one hand tied behind your back since you'll have to stand around doing nothing while your magicka regenerates.
At the end of the day if you run out of stamina you can keep swinging your weapon. You run out of magicka, fun's over.
I enchant a dagger with absorb magicka so if I run out of it I can just run up to an enemy and slash them a few times to regenerate my pool.
Or just do what i do.
enchant a SHIELD with absorb magicka so when you smash them in the chin with a bash you can blast them straight in the face with your refreshed magicka
also a good trade off, because you use the stamina to (essentially) regen your magicka and when that runs out you can't shield bash until THAT recharges.
Does anyone have any recommended ENB mods? I want to prettify my game, and I already have most graphics stuff subscribed to. I just need the enb touch. yes
Finished designing my first sword, I might take a picture of the sketch if folks are interrested?
You might as well show it if you're asking.
Fair point, gimme a couple of minutes.
*edit*
Nope fuck it, gonna redesign it in Photoshop.. THEN I'll show it.
Having problems with the battle for whiterun on the imperial side, the legate guy isn't giving me the relevant quest dialogue and is instead just giving me generic imperial soldier dialogue, what do?
Anyone?
What are people's opinions on RCRN?
I was planning on going with CoT since it's kind of a go-to thing, but RCRN has a big following too.

I had RCRN for a long time, and it was alright. I had an old version, so I don't know how the new version stacks up to CoT, but I really, really like CoT.

Got to the first major dungeon in Arena, looking for the map that'll lead me to the dungeon that actually contains the Staff Of Chaos piece in Hammerfell. A lot of mofos trying to kill me (I was going to say rape me, but with the weird-ass mods you guys have been playing you might have mistook it as a literal statement). Something I learned the sorta-hard-way-but-not-that-tragically, is to save after pretty much every action. Loot a gold pile, save. Open a door, save. Kill that Minotaur that bitch-slapped you in one hit the first time you encountered it, save. Save save save, save. I'm starting to get accustomed to this game, although I wish could make the window bigger. Is there a function on DOSBox that'll let me change the window size?
I would use ENB, but it appears OneTweak conflicts with it. Oh well.
Are there any horse armor mods? I know there is the one that does the Skyrim styled armor for them.
But I'm looking for stuff for like, cataphracts.
Holy shit.

No it isn't that is a new one you lie, Nazeem's soul is not fit to fill a grand soul gem, a pack of wolves would shit on him, let alone a bear.
Nazeem is lost to the sea of ghosts and will ressurface in the next TES game 200 years in the future after an awesome ass Imperial counter to the thalmor that we won't get to see as the villian in the new game.

No, Nazeem is the main bad guy in the next TES. After growing tired of his countless deaths, he seeks out the forbidden power of Aetherius to bring his reign of terror back down upon his enemies.
I just got the Elder Scrolls Anthology. Lets hope it works on windows 8...
I'm going to make a mod that puts nazeem in a box 2 miles underground with a shoe for company.

How did you trap a human in Grand Soul Gem, I thought you needed a Black?
I forgot that there are only 2 dungeon/cave level designers in oblivion
Pure mage would be a lot more viable if alteration spells last longer. Kinda like MMOs where casting a protective ward spell last 10-30 minutes instead of 1 minute. I think not having to cast a mage armor spell every minute would make mages a lot more fun.
What I'd really like is not just this, but something that alerts you as to when effects wear off. It's annoying to be running around in battle thinking that your Potion of Two-Handed Axefuckery is still boosting your skills when it really ran out a minute ago, and you're depending on an armor alteration spell that has already worn off.
