The Elder Scrolls Megathread XV: A Song of Ice and Draugr

God-dammit. There's a glitch in the dungeon I'm in where an invisible wall keeps me from progressing to the macguffin I need to continue the main quest for Arena. Apparently the only way to get around this glitch is with a Passwall spell, which means I have to go ALL THE WAY back out of the dungeon, buy an item with the Passwall enchantment (I can't simply cast it on my own, because I have no magic ability), then go ALL THE WAY back to the dungeon and back to somewhere around the area where I got stuck and Passwall my way out of the obstacle.
Console command?
I forgot how good NPC to NPC interaction is.

UESP doesn't seem to have any listings of console commands for Arena. I'm not entirely sure any exist. Whatever, I got a Crystal of Passwall, and a shitton of health potions (twice as many as usual, because I kept getting nearly killed by fire-spewing Hell Hounds the first time around, despite my supply of Fire Resistance potions.). Time to go through this dungeon again. Loot chests respawn when you revisit dungeons, so hopefully I can recoup my losses by looting everything all over again.
I'm getting a really annoying bug, if I get anywhere near an NPC it will think I'm talking to it and will say shit all the time.
When I sat down with Ralof in riverwood and talked to his sister or whatever, a random npc sat down and said shit ALL the time when I sat there because it thought I wanted to talk to him.
Thats not a bug, that is just Bethesda's shitty npc dialogue range. Go to nexus and search npc dialogue there is a mod that shortens the range considerably.

But I'm fairly sure it didn't happen before.
Just modded up my Morrowind!

Don't go to the Ayleid ruin north of Anvil. Seriously, don't.
I killed the grand champion and he died like this

Also best combat mod if I want to actually have fun with swords?
I can recommend you some. Although the combat and swordplay might not be what you had in mind.
Well I'd be glad to take a look at whatever <3
Or the best bow combat overhaul mod would be good too
Damnit, Skyrim always crashes at the most inopportune times. I was just about to enter Dimhollow Cavern when I got an instant CTD. Then again, it always seems to crash when I shouldn't be playing it. Like just before I go to bed, or before dinner.
Skyrim is a harsh mistress when it comes down to playability and crashing.
I got the anthology for Christmas. Arena didn't age well at all but I have to play through them all.

Well, you wouldn't know I guess since this is your first play through, but Oblivion had a notorious scaled leveling system where everything leveled with you, from the stats of your enemies to the equipment of NPCs (Daedric-wearing marauders!). OOO went back to a more static one, so there will be areas of the game you won't have much of a chance at early on. With OOO you should save frequently and make sure not to get into dungeons, caves, etc. which are meant for higher levels (you'll find this out fast if you enter such a place). This means you likely won't be able to finish all the quests of the game at early levels (Kvatch early on is very tough, for example, where as before it was doable). You will have to invest a lot of time towards leveling up and making sure your character is competent at what ever s/he does, and invest money in healing and resistance potions, even if you are going for the relevant magic schools as skills.
In the end, it all pays off much better though than the scaled leveling imo. Even Bethesda with F3 and Skyrim tweaked the system to be not as absolute as it was in Oblivion.
Speaking of Oblivion's difficulty, you could easily just rush almost every single gate without dealing or taking damage.
Why don't they just get the fastest runners in Cyrodiil to close the gates is beyond me.

My best bet is it's your mods, in hundreds of hours of playing skyrim I had maybe one crash. With a relatively light setup of around 6-12 mods that don't try to do anything too extreme nothing really goes wrong for me
The only mods I have are ones that add followers or add new areas/quests
I've had a very minimal amount of CTDs and they were almost always caused by a mod conflict or something incorrectly installed.
So I made a new character in Skyrim, after much deliborating I went with a Nord. Went with pure white eyes and hair. I messed around with the skin tone slider and found my character bared an uncanny resemblence to Storm (non-mohawk version). Which I decided to keep with the snow motif, not sure if I should go the face mess-arounder person in Riften and go on to looking like Storm...

Pelinal rushes through the gates, screaming about shazbots

That you should always play your first play through on a clean save.

I use 237 mods atm and i crash about once an hour or two

If something looks like it can kick your ass, it's certainly able to (and will) fuck you up badly. OOO removes all level scaling and as such some things in the wilderness will wreck your sorry ass really fast.
Is there a mod that redoes the Q menu? At this point, mine is bloated with spells, weapons, potions, and shouts, and it is no longer as effective as a quick reference tool as it used to be. It would be nice if it was sectioned off, so you press Q and it brings up the different inventory categories with their favorited items, or something like that.

If I remember correctly, there are two mods for it. Categorized Favourites Menu is the older one, and categorizes everything by putting it into a large full screen menu.
SkyUI is the other one, and it fits more with the Skyrim's UI aesthetic, while keeping the categorization and adding a number of fancy features I believe.
