The Elder Scrolls Megathread XV: A Song of Ice and Draugr

By the way, don't download OOO at the nexus, instead get it from planet elder scrolls.
OOO 1.33 OMOD-ready Complete is the version you want.
I didn't even know they released a 1.35 version, getting that one instead.
It's going to take forever to download everything considering I'm downloading both the mods and the game at the same time, not to mention the nexus being slow as fuck as usual. I'm downloading :
ENB for oblivion
OBMM
OBSE
OCO V2
OOO 1.35 + all of its addons
Unofficial oblivion patch
Unofficial shivering isles patch
Universal Skeleton
Combat Stance Reanimation
Floriana Australis
Probably won't end up using OBMM, it's just in case some mods somehow use an OMOD that isn't compatible with NMM. If there are no incompatible omods I'll just use NMM for the sake of keeping everything in one place.
Make sure to load the unofficial patches before OOO in the load order or some of the fixes won't appear.
Here are some screenshots: keep in mind this is basically vanilla oblivion, just the flora mod, the vanilla ENB, and OCOv2

I find the Mediterranean-style arid climate way more interesting than generic fantasy woodland
Makes more sense given Cyrodiils location on Nirn, the fact that the Imperials are inspired by Romans, and that the biome made the transition from a jungle
I actually really like that. Fits very well.
Would have been better IMO if there were still some more traditional forests though, such as near Skyrim border and/or around chorrol, but everywhere else for the most part is mediterrianian. Cause even in Italy, when you get near the mountains to the north of the country it starts getting away from the Mediterranean climate.
That said that would require a lot of work in the vein of Unique Landscapes mod (which is excellent), and this seems to just be a model and texture replacer.
[editline]27th December 2013[/editline]
Since that appears to just be a model/texture replacer, would unique landscapes work with that floral mod? Might make some of the UL's to look odd though that were designed with a normal forest in mind.
You need deadly reflex 6, and also ruined tails tale.
I really don't like deadly reflex. I don't play oblivion for the combat anyway, so I'm not going to bother downloading DR or other mods that make combat a chore.
Like seriously the fact deadly reflex allows NPCs to dodge fireballs and other projectiles makes it insanely frustrating to do anything that isn't melee. Even melee combat is annoying as fuck for that matter, considering you can't land two hits on an enemy without getting bashed and thrown off-guard constantly. The animations are also laughable, so I'll pass.

Considering the best landscape mods use their own texture/meshes it normally wouldn't conflict although some places would look rather weird. If you want to make sure just download the mod and check if it has meshes/textures in it. If it does, then it should work just fine.
One of the funniest mods I remember downloading was one that added an underground dwemer rail system that went from one city to the other, it was surprisingly huge but the main issue was actually navigating the rail system, it was still fun though. The same modder also made a rather nice quest that adds a dwemer flying ship that's really hard to get to (it's a high level dungeon), complete with a dwemer immortal final boss.
By the way is archive invalidation still required for Oblivion ?
Here are some screenshots: keep in mind this is basically vanilla oblivion, just the flora mod, the vanilla ENB, and OCOv2
Holy poop, I'm going to steal your mod setup when I get back home.
By vanilla enb do you mean enb with no external configuration?
[editline]27th December 2013[/editline]
Got a link to that flora overhaul?
Fuck, This dungeon is fucking killing me. Why did they make Daggerfall's dungeons so huge and labyrinth-like? I just have to kill ONE FUCKING GIANT, but I can't find it at all! I'm almost to the point where I have to say "screw it", and use the cheat that cycles you through a dungeon's quest areas, kill that motherfucker, and bolt out.
... I did get some decent loot and ability increases, though...
So I have a shit fps in Morrowind, and using the FPS optimiser does fuck all.
Considering I can run Skyrim on it's highest settings, I don't think it's my specs that are too low.
What can help to fix that besides the Overhaul mod?
Anybody played any good professions mods? I think it's time for my Skyrim character to get a Skyrim job.
So was that too subtle, too dumb, or too late? Guess I'll head to the Bards College and see if I can level up my comedy.
Guess I'll head to the Bards College and see if I can level up my comedy.
Comedy? There won't be any time to level up your lockpicking skill with all the draugr and necromancers you'll be fighting while becoming a bard
Some screenshots of Tamriel Rebuilt for once, since a lot of people seem to forget about it when modding up Morrowind. So far it adds double the landmass and is just fun to explore by itself but it's got a score or more quests and mainland factions to join + tons of new items and content.

Speaking of lockpicking I'm legit curious, has anybody here ever put a single perk into lockpicking in skyrim? I've got like 1000+ skyrim hours, had a shitonne of characters, and never, not once have I ever invested a single perk point into lockpicking
I'm thinking I should make a character where I put almost all of my perk points into lockpicking and have a lockpick-oriented playthrough where everything revolves around lockpicking.
lockpicking

once. but only because of a mod that edited the lockpicking perks into actually useful stuff.
Skyrim Lockpicking = oblivion mysticism
speech is pretty fucking useless too.
With speech at high levels it lets you tell guards to fuck off basically, so you can go on crime sprees and so long as your bounty stays below 200 gold you can convince guards to let you go if you get caught assaulting/stealing
Also pickpocket and speech go really well together since you can get speech training, then pickpocket your gold back
Why couldn't they just ditch speech and replace it with Unarmed or Unarmored.

I thought Mysticism was useful in Oblivion. Or maybe I'm remembering wrong, or thinking of a mod.
Why couldn't they just ditch speech and replace it with Unarmed or Unarmored.
Because some people like to play talky characters.

IIRC, Speech has practically no use in Skyrim other than some rare dialog options and some shop discounts. They honestly should have made it worth taking (ffs Beth just look at Fallout) since they cut out so many other skills and spells.
Detect life was oblivion only practical mystism spell
Really the issue wasn't that mysticism was bad, it's just that like 80% of the spells were incredibly expensive to cast. Casting absorb magic or reflect magic would use up like all your magicka for a 15 second spell
IIRC, Speech has practically no use in Skyrim other than some rare dialog options and some shop discounts.
Like I said, being able to persuade guards in very useful.
The game doesn't have many speech checks though, and the few ones that actually matter have some stupidly high check, like 100 points or something. That's the main issue, but as far as usefulness goes, persuading guards is very convenient for thiefish characters
I just bought Morrowind GOTY
This'll be fun.
haven't been able to connect to the nexus mod manager in a while, anybody know what's up?
by a while i mean WEEKS.

You have to manually upgrade to the newest one.

I'm going to wait until the entire thing (or as much as will be done) is finished. I don't like how it just cuts off into the water.
I don't really bother with specializing perks. Instead, I use this mod that automatically assigns perk point each time I level up a skill, so I don't have to choose.

Exactly. It gives you one convenient (and extremely unbalanced feature) without too much usefulness in the skill at all. There is almost no reason to ever invest any perks into that tree.
I'm going to wait until the entire thing (or as much as will be done) is finished. I don't like how it just cuts off into the water.
Well it's taken years to get that far so you've got a long wait ahead of you.
[editline]27th December 2013[/editline]
Also remind me where to find your mod ingame?
I use lockpicking frequently, but the useless tree I've found is pickpocket. Which isn't to say that there aren't useful perks in the tree; that carrying capacity one is fantastic. The problem is that I've never found pickpocketing to be viable. NPCs are always too eagle-eyed (or eagle-eared, it seems) for me to ever get close enough to steal things or slip in poison.
Also remind me where to find your mod ingame?
The quest giver is in Suran Tradehouse.

It's because pickpocketing in the game doesn't work like pickpocketing in real life mostly. Or you just suck at stealth.
I'n playing morrowind and having a blaast, but is there any widescreen mods? I didn't find any in the op.
