I'd love to volunteer as a voice actor for Skywind. Here's a sample. Think I've got what it takes? http://vocaroo.com/i/s0HENzItWnlj
You definitely have what it takes. However, the quality of the audio is rather low. Do you have better recording hardware?
I wonder how much they had to pay for the narrator
Damn this is gonna be one of those mods that gets people jobs due to how accomplished it is, like Black Mesa and MWLL before it :v:
I think it's fun how modders keep going back and try and recreate Morrowind, Bethesda should really take a hint. I'm usually quite conservative when it comes to these "remaking morrowind" stuff, just as if someone were to repaint Mona Lisa with modern vibes. But this project seems to be doing an extremely good job at what its doing. Aren't they a bit limited though? Like, will spellmaking work?
Except morrowind was a piece of shit gameplay wise.
Except morrowind was a piece of shit gameplay wise.
It didn't have the most modern of mechanics but I thought the gameplay was fine. Granted I played it during a time when the only RPG's I've played were stuff like Grandia, so its mechanics weren't really that odd to me. I can still go back to it now and play it and enjoy it. If you are a more action-oriented gamer or used to RPGs that are very action-focused then it will be hard to get into though for sure. Its combat system blows oblivion/skyrim out of the water, even if its animations and the feel of combat and mechanics do not.
I think the worst thing about Morrowind's combat is that there is no visual distinction between a hit and a miss determined by the dice. It makes you feel like you're stabbing a ghost rather than actually not hitting your target. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] Also, why the fuck does anyone worship the bad/dark-grey Daedra? It never leads to anything beneficial. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] Mannimarco made his own power and he became a god. Everyone else got stomped by a player character (also including the lame-ass Mannimarco, but he had also already become a god at this point so he doesn't cound).
For a person who's had 200 hours in oblivion and 1500 hours in Skyrim, I like Morrowind from just the 2 hours that I've played it so far. But I don't know why I don't sit down and play it in a sitting, I'm guessing it's the lack of voice acting that kinda makes the game feel lonely.
there's only one thing Skywind has to do to make it the best mod out there:
I wonder how much they had to pay for the narrator
Holy shit. YES.
i wonder a few things about skywind firstly, do we run the mod separate from the game launcher? is there a portal from Skyrim, can we use our mods; basically, how will we play it? secondly, how are they going to do spears? Bethesda exaggerates, this we know, but are they actually functionally possible in the engine? this also begs the question of how many animations will carry over from the base game thirdly, how will the skills system work? perk-based like skyrim, or will they adhere closer to morrowind's style?
Except morrowind was a piece of shit gameplay wise.
ah yes mashing m1 is much more fun in skyrim than mashing m1 in morrowind
It may have been dice-rolls, but it had more depth to it than Oblivion and SKyrim.
I shouldn't be able to break my new dagger on somebody standing right in front of me without hitting him once. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
ah yes mashing m1 is much more fun in skyrim than mashing m1 in morrowind
Considering you can actually fucking hit something in Skyrim, yeah.
ah yes mashing m1 is much more fun in skyrim than mashing m1 in morrowind
Actually, morrowind has no player-triggered blocking nor bashing system, oblivion have a player triggered blocking system, but no bashing So Skyrim would have the more complex melee combat out of all the games. :v:
You're going to need a cardioid condenser and an interface that supports xlr and had 48v.
Hey, red... I was thinking of buying a good microphone, but I'm entirely new to this - I won't know what I need or how to obtain it. But since you seem to know a bit about this stuff, could you make any suggestions for something affordable? Or tell me what you mean by 'interface that supports xlr and has 48v'?
Considering you can actually fucking hit something in Skyrim, yeah.
if you can't hit things in morrowind you didnt read through what your stats do
Actually, morrowind has no player-triggered blocking nor bashing system, oblivion have a player triggered blocking system, but no bashing So Skyrim would have the more complex melee combat out of all the games.
fair enough but its not like the actual combat ever was the fun part of any elder scrolls game when redbadger says that morrowinds gameplay was terrible he's actually saying that its combat was terrible. gameplay would also include exploration, doing quests, enjoying the story, finding items et cetera.
Can somebody tell me how hard is mapping using the creation kit?
What the fuck Legate Rikke, just let me continue the Civil War Quests, I'm at your fucking Pale camp, now let me report for duty you little shit. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] what the hell immediately after posting that she lets me continue
if you can't hit things in morrowind you didnt read through what your stats do
I read enough, I just can't find a bow.
I wonder how much they had to pay for the narrator
I have not been that hyped for game for a solid five years [editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
I read enough, I just can't find a bow.
Throwing weapons are fairly easy to find. Right out of Seyda Neen there is a little cave of slave traders and one of them has a bunch of shurikens you can use. As soon as you find an enchanted weapon (the mage that crashes to the ground near seyda neen has a really good shock weapon), go in any burial tombs and look for skeletons, they usually carry a bow with a ton of arrows, both enchanted and normal. Relatively early in the main quest you can get a powerful enchanted bow that you get to keep afterward. And if you really want a ranged weapon from the get go just give that stupid wood elf his ring and get some discounted stuff from the local trader, he sells appropriate gear for every class.
Hey, red... I was thinking of buying a good microphone, but I'm entirely new to this - I won't know what I need or how to obtain it. But since you seem to know a bit about this stuff, could you make any suggestions for something affordable? Or tell me what you mean by 'interface that supports xlr and has 48v'?
XLR is a type of wired connection used with professional microphones. One end goes into the microphone (obviously) while the other goes into your interface which can connect to your computer via USB, firewire, thunderbolt, etc. The difference when it comes to these connections from the interface is latency from the microphone to the computer, but for basic voice over use, it's not going to matter (when it gets to 8+ inputs/outputs, it'll start to be a factor). USB 3.0 will be your best option, though there is nothing wrong with 2.0 for voice over purposes. There's nothing really too affordable per se, but I'll try my best. You're going to need an interface that supports 48V. 48V (Phantom Power) is a power supply that is used to power condenser and ribbon microphones. Dynamic microphones for the most part do not need 48V. There are PCI interface's but those are the most expensive but provide the best quality. USB interfaces sacrifice some quality, but it shouldn't be noticeable compared to solid USB microphones. For the interface, I recommend this M-Audio M-Track interface, since it's on the cheaper side. http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-M-Track-2-Channel-Portable-Interface/dp/B00BQ6KSN6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1388947627&sr=8-3&keywords=m-audio It comes with two inputs if you ever want to go a little further with the recording, but for the price you're getting a great deal. When it comes to microphones for vocals, I recommend two microphones: The CAD 179 and the Audio Technica 2020. Both are great and have nice sounds for vocals. Personally, I prefer the CAD 179 for its tone but the difference is very slight. The CAD also has a bit more customizable options on the microphone for more specific work. However the Audio Technica is the more affordable of the two. http://www.amazon.com/CAD-M179-Variable-Pattern-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B0002D0N70/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1388947799&sr=1-1&keywords=CAD+179 http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT2020-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B0006H92QK/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1388947903&sr=1-2&keywords=audio+technica+2020 Finally, you'll need an XLR Cable, Pop Filter, and a Mic Stand. Be careful though! Some places advertise their XLR cables as $5 which seems right but it really isn't. A poorly made XLR cable creates bad static noise in your audio. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XLR5 A pop filter will be fine no matter what you get. Hell, even a pantyhose will work just fine. http://www.amazon.com/Studio-Microphone-Screen-Flexible-Gooseneck/dp/B008AOH1O6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1388948128&sr=8-2&keywords=pop+filter And lastly your stand: http://www.amazon.com/Stage-Stands-MS7701-Tripod-Microphone/dp/B000978D58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388948169&sr=8-1&keywords=microphone+stand This is definitely really intimidating especially when I first did it but believe me it could be much worse, especially when you get into the professional level of recording. I'm still learning a lot every day from my college and it's tough stuff. If all this is way too intimidating then I'd stick with a USB microphone for now in which case check out the Audio Technica USB 2020 or other alternatives. Otherwise if you have a serious passion to start voice over work, I'd start making the investment. I hope this helps. And if you need anything else feel free to send me a PM. Oh also just get audacity for your recording software. Nothing special but it gets the job done. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] Voice talent was good btw I look forward to hearing more
^ Don't let your talent get wasted man! You might be on to something here.
I'm going to try helping with quest conversion for Skywind. Already found an unreserved quest that seems pretty easy.
^ Don't let your talent get wasted man! You might be on to something here.
I'm more of a composer and that's very hard to find work for in modding. Plus I don't have the tools yet
i wonder a few things about skywind firstly, do we run the mod separate from the game launcher? is there a portal from Skyrim, can we use our mods; basically, how will we play it? secondly, how are they going to do spears? Still up in the air I guess. 2: Not sure yet, skywind custom animations are in early development so we'll see. Spear models have been made but right now use two-handed skyrim animation. 3: Not sure if it's even possible, we aren't changing anything in the main game so most probably we use the vanilla, of couse if we make skywind standalone we could try.
I'm currently using this microphone, the RV6 (scroll down), mostly for singing though. http://www.red5audio.com/acatalog/Condenser_Mics.html This audio interface. http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-Audiogram-USB-Recording-Interface/dp/B001F21RJ0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1388951646&sr=8-3&keywords=audiogram Here's an unedited, raw sample, I explain some things in it - I'd really reccomend this microphone. For anyone wondering, this is directed toward archangel
Well SPERG has automatic perks and someone made third era attributes. Wouldn't it be possible to simplify perks to a very basic linear, automatic system and use something similar to third era attributes ?
I can see halberds working with the warhammer/battle axe animation. The voulge-style halberds in morrowind are really supposed to be cleaving weapons, not poking weapons
I wonder how much they had to pay for the narrator
Cheeky flash of Hircine in that video :v: oh they show it at the end anyway
I read enough, I just can't find a bow.
Buy one at the store in sedya neen. It'll be fucking terrible however, so at the first opportunity, go to the smith in the vivec foreign quarters, he sells Bonemold long bows (best bow, short of daedric)
Usually the people who hate Morrowind are the ones that are terrible at it.
Usually the people who hate Morrowind are the ones that are terrible at it.
Doesn't this apply for many games?
