Have I said how much I love TES Lore?
I only read the books about bread baking and spear polishing
I'm with the Pjigdelastic Order on this and say that CHIM and the Godhead aren't real and that Vivec is just an insane prick like the rest of the Tribunal. Fuck Vivec.
I really like a lot of the stuff that (I'm assuming) has Kirkbride's mark on it. Like the fact that the sun is the hole in the Universe where Magnus fled, and the creation of Red Mountain, but I really can't stand the more ridiculous shit. I like crazy lore, but only when it's actually fucking intelligible.
Have I said how much I love TES Lore?
This is actually really cool cuz it just screams crazy but sounds plausible in the confines of the lore
Are we still doing jokes Why are Sabre Toothed Tigers always pissed off? Because their children might be Khajit
Isn't the entirety of the universe in TES just the dream of a mad god, which explains the batshit insane space physics ?
No. A dream of a lonely thing that said fuck this loneliness, I'm going to bed.
Close enough. The world of TES is so batshit insane it makes me really sad that Skyrim is such a bland mess.
Yeah, I really wish the flying cocaine whales had been there.
I really want to see Elsweyr. It'd be a grand contrast to Skyrim.

What Bethesda does best is the absurd - Morrowind, Daedric Realms, the Bioillumensicent Underground, Hermaeus Mora's Realm. They could probably pull off a really spectacular Elsweyr or Black Marsh.
That is because all of the writers who pulled off Morrowind aren't in the team anymore and it seems like the new ones have a hard time grasping the lovecraftian creepiness of the original universe.
If they did the next game in Blackmarsh it would be called Far Cry 3 with swords.
Isn't Blackmarsh a lot more dense and damper than Far Cry 3 though
I'll never understand why Bethesda focuses on the generic landscapes and areas; of let's say Cyrodiil and Skyrim.
Worse then that is that they Generic'd Cyrodiil for TESIV.
Isn't Blackmarsh a lot more dense and damper than Far Cry 3 though
It's supposed to be, but he's referring to how the new writers would screw it up.
And so begins the adventures of Gaenor, the wood elf [del]templar[/del] pauper in TESO
It's supposed to be, but he's referring to how the new writers would screw it up.
I'm referring to someone in gaming journalism calling Far Cry 3 "Skyrim with guns"
Worse then that is that they Generic'd Cyrodiil for TESIV.
Cyrodiil is more fitting as a temperate land than a tropical clusterfuck in my opinion so I'm glad they changed the lore around a bit to include Tiber Septim cutting the fuck out of all the trees. The thing is what we got in the end was fucking horrible. Imperials are pretty much Ancient Romans, it would have been much more fitting if Cyrodiil essentially had Mediterranean climate and landscapes.

For me, half of what made Morrowind was the fucking-far-out-there story. The other half was the setting and the creatures being so unlike every Medieval European fantasy setting out there. So of course they follow that up with Romans and Vikings in settings that look like what I have out my window. I'm reminded of a scene from the Highlander TV series. MacLeod: Just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Cullen: Scenery? [looks to one side] Trees. [looks out the other side] Trees. Trees. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim has some nice vistas at times. But that's the graphics technology, not the creativity of the designers. Morrowind truly looked interesting. And I think that's a big part of why people keep trying to recreate or reinvent it when a new engine comes out. Because we've seen photos of Rome or Norway. We can tour those places. But we haven't seen photos of Morrowind, and we can't go for a walk there. The only way to experience that alien place is to create it.

To be fair Morrowind already had Romans and Vikings and such. The few non-dunmer settlements in Vvanderfell are pretty standard, because in the lore there isn't that many places in Nirn that are as weird and fucked up as Morrowind, except perhaps some places of Elsweyr and Akavir.
I'm referring to someone in gaming journalism calling Far Cry 3 "Skyrim with guns"
"Gaming journalism"? Is that what those hacks are supposed to be doing?
Morrowind had Romans and Vikings, but it also had houses made out of crab shells and mushrooms. And if you went off in the wilderness, it wasn't wolves and bears you had to watch out for. But you're right. I imagine High Rock and Hammerfell would be more of the same we're used to. I just want another game that has a setting not pulled from a history book. Morrowind was different. It had some familiar pieces in it, but that made it seem weirder because they seemed so out of place. I'd love a DLC that takes place in Akavir. At least, if it was a good DLC. But it's probably better if that place remain mysterious than have a mediocre team turn it into "Skyrim with snakes" and retcon all the inhabitants into mostly-human-looking.

I can totally see an Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell with a big black dude on it as opposed to the masculine nord we're used to seeing on Skyrims box.

Morrowind was the Black Sheep in terms of setting, characters, and creatures.
So, in less than a week, my mod on the Workshop got 97 subscriptions and over a thousand unique views. Yay. Aaaand I'm posting here again:
Problem is they set the standard so high in Morrowind that Oblivion and Skyrim immediately fell down from grace.
To be completely fair, Arena and Daggerfall were also "generic fantasy setting" places. Morrowind was the Black Sheep in terms of setting, characters, and creatures.
That is the point I'm trying to make. Everything before and since Morrowind has been generic fantasy. Morrowind was special. They made something special that resonated, then went right back to plain old white bread generic fantasy for two more games. Give me Summerset Isle with it's vine-like buildings stacked on other buildings. Or Elseweyr's deserts full of cat-people (and not just the "humans with cat heads" from the last two games, show me the 12' Senche-Raht that weighs as much as 50 Altmer). Just something different already.
Morrowind was the Black Sheep
Now I'm just picturing Chris Farley yelling "N'wah!"

i hate how swings don't do anything but take HP from enemies unless you power attack
