The Elder Scrolls Megathread XV: A Song of Ice and Draugr

One of the reasons I loved Dark Messiah so much, those melee swings were meaty as all hell, had some real weight behind them.
It's worth pointing out that Morrowind is considered to be totally fucking absurd in regards to every other province.
Like, pretty much everything is roughly the same. Sure, Elsweyr is a desert and Black Marsh is a desert, but they're nowhere near as alien as Morrowind.
The game gave to much of an MMO feel, And i got no elder scrolls feelings from it.
But then again, it is still just an beta.... Might change...
Doubtful
I don't know how it's possible, but the game actually went under the standards of my preconceptions, and my preconceptions of how it would be were pretty bad TBH
I cannot even get a shred of any TES vibe whatsoever, I stepped out into the generic fantasy landscape of elswyr and I quit the game within 10 minutes, everything was just so humdrum and the game had no tangible atmosphere, idiots running around every which way slaughtering animals en mass for XP.
The tangible qaulitities that make TES games into true TES games, simply cannot function in an MMO environment. It's ---:O with a nexus-grade TES skin slapped on top of it.

I do like the versatility of the character creation though, hopefully the next fallout/tes has something on par with it.

we don't know of any plants that grow in black marsh or elsweyr. and frankly, i think any trees that grow agronians is going to look pretty weird.
My bad, I (obviously) meant swamp.
Out of my boredom and lack of inspiration to write anything I've decided to arrange TES theme into a pirate-y style using a 7/8 time. Using the Skyrim theme as a main template for the melody only. Been working on it for about a hour now and it's coming out nice.
If I actually get around to finishing it I'll try to post it.
[editline]10th January 2014[/editline]
I think I'm failing miserable at getting the pirate feel and it's probably to do with the 7/8 instead of the 6/8. Oh well I'll figure it out.
Oh, another thing I love about Morrowind -- the fucking music. Sometimes I turned on my Xbox and just left it running at the title screen playing Nerevar Rising.

The Hist are just normal looking trees actually. And I'm pretty sure there was one in Oblivion.
But anyhow, I have to agree with Sgt-NiallR on this one. Morrowind stood out because it's the only province that really stands out as being Alien in the lore.
Valenwood is basically just a red wood forest but the trees (can [sometimes]) move, Black Marsh is just a rather hazardous swamp, the Summerset Isles would basically be a normal Archipelago but with crystals and shit, and Elsweyr is really just a sort of sunny half desert half forest kind of land.
There may be some more less "generic" creatures in those areas, but they really aren't as interesting or crazy as Morrowind, which is described as alien and inhospitable in the lore, unlike the other provinces which are just considered foreign.
Black Marsh would probably have some neat man eating plants or something, the Summerset Isle has the possibility of reintroducing the Sload or possibly the Maormer, Elsweyr of course would focus on the other Khajiit forms and shit which would be pretty rad, and Valenwood could possibly be kinda neat with Wild Hunt shit going on and the Imga and all that, but none of the provinces would come anywhere near Morrowind.

I know, I know. But the Summerset Isles or Valenwood have got to be more interesting than Cyrodiil. Or at least, more interesting than the Cyrodiil they gave us. They could have made that a lot more interesting if they hadn't gone full-bore with the Roman/Medieval slant. And even if Elsweyr is a desert, it's a desert full of cat-people, and cat-things over 12 feet tall; that has got to be more interesting than trees and horses and potato-faced Romans. I'm sure they made Elsweyr suck for the MMO, though.
Part of me wants to play TESO to see the other provinces. Part of me knows it's not worth it because they'll have fucked them all up and they won't meet my expectations. Especially if they shit all over the lore and retcon those places to make them easier to develop.
Almost to 13,000 posts btw in the thread
The "interest" of any individual province really just depends on how talented the writers and creative noggins are in the early stages of development.

ding
If they can retcon Cyrodiil from a jungle to looking like the outskirts of Vancouver, then they could retcon some other province to make it more alien or interesting in some way.
[editline]10th January 2014[/editline]
Actually, it's the geography doesn't even have to be that unusual. Just some non-human architecture would go a long way. Or at least, something not classical fantasy European.
They changed Cyrodiil from tropical jungle to temperate forest. Not really that big of a change, and it was really mainly done because of console and engine limitations.
The extent of the change to Cyrodill really only amounts to there being less trees and a dryer climate.
i hate how swings don't do anything but take HP from enemies unless you power attack
I wish every single hit you did had that shield hit animation where the swing actually stops when connecting to something.

Orsinium would be great for that matter, it's a shame it's such a tiny-ass portion of tamriel.
More than retconning they could just fill in the details.
I know this is probably an unpopular point of view, but it's so much better to have the writing in the hands of people who were educated in that regard. A writing team should be people who understand history, literature and art with an ancillary knowledge of programming rather than the other way around. If you're going to build a world you should at least have talented people who understand the world professionally.
[del]We[/del] They also need jobs really badly and are usually willing to work directly for bread and water.
Rolff Stone-Fist is essential
Why
ESO is so bad, i am so bored its not even funny.

Well, as small as the world sizes are getting, it would just be a matter of changing the scale. If you think about the size of Skyrim in-game vs the size of the landmass it represents, it's scaled way down. But there's no reason that has to be the scale. Seyda Neen in Morrowind was a dump but it was bigger than a lot of places in Skyrim. I think Ald'ruhn was bigger than Solitude. So if they focused on Orsinium and some area around it, they could have in-game world be the same size as Skyrim's, but have it represent a smaller chunk of land. That would maybe mean there'd be less villages but each would be larger.

yep it seems pretty dumb for warhammers to slice your enemy
Rolff Stone-Fist is essential
Why
The only acceptable explanation I've heard is that he represents an attitude that pervades Windhelm. When you consider that the real Windhelm would be a lot more than 20 people in real life, you wouldn't really be able to end racism in the city with a dagger strike (unless you could get everybody to stand in line and hold still while you run by).
But to hell with Rolff. That's what the console is for.
Just wiped out Northwatch Thalmor fort and freed the prisoners inside.
Some terrible people died this day, and Nirn is a better place for it c:
$60 then $15 per month.
DOA

He's a target of "the fishing job" according to the wiki.
Also been forgetting to uninstall vilja out of laziness (she's terrible... so terrible) but the fact that all my fucking companions have a command now to go hang out with her and that she has like 5 spells in my spell list dedicated to her means she has to go.
My skyrim is not "Vilja companion: the game" god damn it.

Oh, right. That's probably it. Never mind me.

So there's the Passive Recharge mod that recharges enchanted equipment over time. Is there an active recharge mod? I'm picturing a spell that very inefficiently turns magicka into item charge? Like at novice level you get a petty soul gem's worth of charge for like 75 magicka. I'm not sure that would be easy to do. How would the script know which item to charge? Can't go off what you have equipped because what if you're wanting to charge a 2H weapon? Meh. Maybe it wasn't a such good idea. But I've always found it odd to think that all the enchanted items throughout Tamriel run on souls.
I love how you never see Nazeem in the cloud district
I love how you never see Nazeem in the cloud district
It all makes sense now.
He asks you because he's never been there. He just wants to know what it's like.
Orsinium would be great for that matter, it's a shame it's such a tiny-ass portion of tamriel.
Considering they seem to be getting slightly better at not making tiny-ass worlds, they could make a game take place in either Hammerfell or High Rock and include Orsinium on the border. Personally I'd like to see Elsweyr, it has the potential for some very interesting dungeons unlike Skyrim's caves/tombs.
He does sometimes visit Dragons Reach actually. At least, I've run into him there a few times.
I love how you never see Nazeem in the cloud district
He's never there in my my game either...
BECAUSE I ALWAYS SEND HIM TO HELL
Enchanted all my clothes with two-handed bonus, pack a fuckload of stamina potions and just charge random shit.
