What's the best lighting/weather mod for Skyrim?
What's the best lighting/weather mod for Skyrim?
I think most people would point to CoT or RCRN. Two of the main choices. There are also some weather additions for CoT that I've seen around in some places.

Climates of Tamriel if you're looking for no FPS loss and pretty good weather systems. The lighting could be better though.
RCRN ain't got shit on CoT.
Apparently Eorlund Gray-Mane has been dead for the longest time and I didn't know about it. Same with Alfhild Battle-Born. And come to think of it, I haven't seen Jon Battle-Born around either. God, how many people have died with out me knowing? I know I've killed half the population of Markarth, but jesus, I wasn't even in Whiterun when they died.
My Skyrim is going to an empty one.

I imagine if you played skyrim + dawnguard for long enough every npc would die :v:

That's why I installed a couple mods that put in like a million unimportant NPCs that travel and live in towns and stuff. Laborers, pilgrims, beggars and more. The Vampires get fucking mobbed and die before they can kill anyone important.

I really like the populated X mods. Makes skyrim not feel like some sort of small spread out village.
At the same time, I don't get how skyrim even works. Whitefun is some sort of big city yet it has like 10 buildings. I don't understand how it works.
When does the ESO nonsense go live?

It's scaled down. You're not seriously expecting it to be the size of Los Santos?

I'd like to self-insert here. Realistic Lighting Overhaul has weathers too.

Balmora was a plausibly sized village community, Imperial City was fairly believable, but shit like Morthal is ridiculous
why does the elder scrolls seem to be the only series where cities get less realistic in each iteration?

crap engine and focus on less important features
also the imperial city wasnt really believable, it was just better than what else we had been given; was still awful for being the capitol of the empire

No, but the "lore" and dialogue I hear throughout the game makes cities seem important, but I don't see how they are given they could maybe hold 30-40 people.
I remember thinking AC's cities seemed pretty proper, but not explorable much.

I'm going to try this out tonight.
TL:DR Guy finds a method of telling SKSE to make a larger initial memory buffer when skyrim stars to avoid so much swapping which can cause CTD's.
People are playing on Ugrids 19 without crashing.
Holy shit what‽ This is huge!
He keeps making references to fucking up your system, what can it do?

He's referring to those people who have systems which are basically already broken and putting too much load can break them. Think overheating.
In reality though, unless you have failing cooling systems the most this would do is maybe cause skyrim to corrupt.
You can always replace the dll with the normal one and go back to normal.
Wow, uGrids 13

He was not joking about "Dawn of a new era"
Imagine the framerate! :v:
Honestly my framerate is great in skyrim even with all these extra NPCs I doubt that some more exteriors to housing would make much difference in terms of frame rate. I mean the indoors are just cells, what's it matter?
I really hate how barren the distance terrain is. I use the HD distant terrain stuff, but at the same time they look like the pixels of the texture are the size of cars.
Imagine the framerate! :v:
shit i'd sacrifice graphics for gameplay any day
I looked up to what uGrids. But I don't know how big a cell is. How big is roughly 1 or 164 cells?

My favorite is how Nazeem goes on and on about the Cloud District and making it sound like some nobles-only part of town and you're never going to go there. It's a walk up what... two dozen stairs? Maybe 3?
[editline]18th January 2014[/editline]
Scratch that, I'm thinking of the Plains to Wind Ristrict. Still, though, the Cloud District is just Dragonsreach and is 4 dozen steps. Point still stands - unless you're asthmatic you could just walk there.

It's either one city the size of Skyrim; or multiple cities, the size of which gets smaller as you add more.
I'm pretty happy with the balance that Skyrim struck, honestly. The game is mostly outside of the cities.

You're totally failing to separate lore from in game. In lore, the Oblivion Crisis was an earth rending catastrophe that damn near brought the empire to its knees; in game, it was a series of dungeons.
AC's cities were pretty good, but they were worse than TES cities in pretty much every way except size. Damn near every building was locked tight, you couldn't interact with any of the NPCs beyond killing them; plus there's not as many of them as there are TES cities.
You can bet your ass that if Beth went with the less but bigger cities, there'd be uproar.
Wait hold on a second.
What if Nazeem is complimenting you.
People who are arrested go to the cloud district.

I'm talking about all the interactions with people and the apparent influence of areas in the game. And while the Oblivion crisis wasn't nearly as bad as the world is ending it was a major influence in the game. It felt like it was definitely impacting the people.
Really the only cities I think feel properly large and fit with how people describe them ingame is Solitude and High Hrothgar. As far as AC goes, you're right. it was basically non-interactive, but it still felt like a city. Not a little outpost.
I'd rather beth make massive cities and load them up full of shit, and make them like actual cities - and have fewer of them.
having 2 or 3 massive cities with smaller villages around the world would be way cooler than what we get.
Even though the cities were repetitive, I loved just wandering around them in daggerfall and entering all the houses looking for decent loot to steal - and you could escape the guards, and still actually be in the city!
Imho bethesda should opt for more randomisation and scale instead of a few dozen of lovingly crafted shallow and boring peasant NPC's at whom you will never look twice and cities that house less people than the two bordering bandit camps combined.

Did it? I don't recall much more than a couple of throwaway rumour/radient lines of dialogue.
Does anyone know of any good jewelry mods for Skyrim? I'm looking specifically to fill out the standard metals and gemstones so that every combination is represented in rings, pendants, and circlets. It's annoying that I can only get a Gold Diamond Ring & Necklace, but no Gold Diamond Circlet. Or a Silver Sapphire Necklace & Circlet, but no Silver Sapphire Ring. So on and so forth.
