my main problem with overhaul mods is that there seems to be a consensus that making the game hard as fucking nails is somehow a great idea
I think the game could go for a difficulty spike
But in the dark souls-ish way, where every situation you can overcome if you are good enough, time things right, and simply last long enough to survive
The problem with stuff like requiem though is that they just make things hard/deadlier, without balancing in a way to actually overcome it short of simply grinding levels up. In other words, they just artifically increase difficulty with one-shot kills from arrows from no where without giving you a way to actually prepare against it, stop it, avoid it, etc either in the mechanics or world design. It's literally just default skyrim (where the game design was balanced in favor of just slashing at things constantly till they die) but with insta-gib mode turned on, and it's terrible design.
Like if enemies that one hit you had obvious animation cycles to obviously give you time to block all the damage or dodge it that would be one thing, but skyrim generally doesn't do this and they'll just throw you against a large amount of enemies often. There is no gameplay strategy when you suddenly get killed from soup'd up damage values in that type of monster design and monster placements designed to operate with lower damage values
Visiting Suran's always like asking for a nice calming sigh sent straight from childhood:

Aaah.
Here's the problem I'm having with invisible stuff.

I'm looking directly at the Imperial City. Waterfront is to the left. Or is supposed to be, anyways.

Anyone have any ideas?
Er, I can kill most things in Requiem at level one, aside from undead which usually requires slash weapon or silver to be effective... And arrows in Skyrim can be avoided, although I agree that the NPCs shouldn't have perfect aim. As with the large groups of enemies, you can handle them in different ways, in dungeons you can backtrack them to previous traps. As for wolves, well it's sorta hard to handle them since they have numbers and speed on their side... I try to avoid packs of wolves at low level.
One of the main issues with every Skyrim combat overhaul is that they still don't change how enemies react to hits, you can come swinging at any enemy with a mace and they still won't flinch, and vice versa. I don't think I've seen any combat overhaul that change this.
That's because its impossible, we don't have any real control over the animation engine and thats an animation code issue
Most we can do is script a stagger to happen but that's pretty unrealistic to happen after every hit, plus its IMBA as hell
Besides, most enemies react pretty decent to hits. Sure a standard swipe at them doesn't garner a huge reaction but even if you were to add an animation to something like that, it would be cosmetic at best.
The problem with overhaul mods is that enemies are using the same weapon as the player, meaning that if you give the player more damage to kill the enemies with ridiculous health, the enemies will one-shot the player.
I feel like making a warriormage with one handed, block, heavy armor, smithing, and enchanting. What magic schools would be best to use?
What happens when i use a newer version of ENB than the CFG is for? Will everything explode?
Honestly, what overhaul mods are you guys using, always complaining about being one shotted.
Requiem for me. But it's just those archers. I can handle pretty much anything else.
It's not even a good difficulty increase either. They seem to think that we like dieing in one hit and then having to hit our foes 20 times to kill them.
Do it like Hotline Miami.
So I uninstalled Duel - Combat Realism today.
It really made fighting more tough, and I liked that, but I got more than what I was promised.
The mod edited the way sneaking worked. I was quite unhappy to see that it took me leaving the cell that the enemies detected me in, then waiting 2 hours in-game, just so that I could lose them. I know that sounds more realistic than Skyrim's default settings, but I uninstalled Duel because I felt betrayed
The mod promised an enhanced combat experience, and it gave one, but it also fucked with another feature I would expect a combat-oriented wouldn't touch: stealth.
You know in Skyrim, the stealth-eye usually opens just a peak to let you know that the enemy thinks someone or something is there? Well, it made that search mode last for an in-game hour, even if the enemy didn't detect you completely. (eye opened fully)
That caused me minutes of waiting over and over to keep attacking them, kinda providing no entertainment. If you are a stealth-based fast-paced player, Duel is not good for that kind of action.
Anyone know of a good Oblivion Interface mod that makes it less ugly and more Mouse+Keyboard friendly?
People said Skyrim's interface was bad for K+M, at least it can be used with that. But in Oblivion it is outright painful to use Keyboard and Mouse.
I think that Darn UI is pretty much accepted as one of the best UIs for Oblivion.

I thought Oblivion's interface worked loads better with a mouse than Skyrim's.

This. Both were clearly designed for a controller, but goddamn if half the time you can't select what you want to with M+K on Skyrim. At least in Oblivion all the buttons were huge and you when you cliked on them, it worked.
I think Oblivion's UI was better overall, it supported the RPG genre better.

I can't count the number of times I went to click on the Misc items category when selling to a merchant and it instead took me back to the previous menu.
What version of ENB are you using? I had that issue with version .19 and .18, I upgraded to .68 and I don't have that issue anymore.
Uh, I'll check but I thought it was the most recent version off the ENB website.

Found the Skyrim patch.

Stumbled upon this neat little setting.
IMO, Skyrim's really was the better vanilla one, hotkeys for different things (map, items, magic) instead of the one size fits all, and at least in Skyrim I could scroll around.
I am using SkyUI for Skyrim though, because it is an improvement, and scrolling <3
The only problem I had with Oblivion's interface is how to drop items.
That, and how small the map is.
I kinda wish that for the pc versions of the games they just improved morrowind's thing.
You can check the saves tab in Wrye Bash, red is a missing mod and orange is an incorrect or changed load order (i think)
That works, but it doesn't really help, since it just shows that all the mods are in a different order. Thinking over it though I only have like 2 mods that add items, and at least one of them works, so that's a pretty good indication of what mod is broken.

it at least isn't as obviously designed for a controller, shame about it being so fucking huge though since bethesda's only playtester was helen keller

I like that little spot, I have a camping tent set up there.
I like it because its a guaranteed spot to get steel plate gauntlets.
And then I found out that the silver blood close by don't like non-werewolf visitors as they charged me with full steel plate armor.
I'm glad for light armor allowing me to run faster than them and finding time to get in an exploitable spot.
Skyrim can be pretty at times

I was 200 freaking hours into the game.
Then I realized you can drop things by shift-clicking. :downs:
My skyrim is always pretty. Except when you can't see shit cap'n, because it's too dark at night.
Hell, idk if it is anymore since I stopped asking Facepunch about opinions.
