If my militia didn't need the gear in this horrible place, I'd melt it down, but as it stands I have enough immigrants to justify the process. The only annoying part is having to produce enough coffins(because engraving slabs is a fucking micromanaging hell hole and I REFUSE to do it) to prevent ghost issues. Honestly ghosts are the most annoying and worst feature ever added. Bring back carp and elephant rape over those shitheads.
I'm running out of coffin space as well. I have no native metals on my map besides gold so I have to trade for metals. So my fort is very trap and crossbow oriented right now with two full melee squads in support (one having metal armor and the other being me.... recruit improvement squad with leather.
FOR THE MOUNTAINHOMES, FOR CRAFTCASTLE, FOR THE DWARVES! LET'S RUMBLE YOU GOBLIN SHITS.
I'm trying adventure mode for the first time. 1. Is it possible to get drinkable water from a frozen river? 2. How do you find wells? I've wandered all over town but found nada. 3. How do you find shopkeepers? There's got to be a better way than running into every building and staring everyone down to determine their profession.
We won, no losses, thirty Goblins, Trolls and their mounts dead. The rest ran off crying like the Goblin cowards they are.

Fill your waterskin with snow, build a fire, interact with fire and melt the snow. 2. Don't bother with wells. 3. Don't bother with trading. If you want gear, go to a major town (marked by a + or a #) and get stuff from the dungeon that will be under their keep. Just watch out for goblins, kobolds and other nasties.
I was mowing down kobolds in the sewer until I got pushed into the water and started floundering. What a lame way to die.

Note to self: Don't send weapon bins to the outside trade depot without checking for the militia's gear first.
Note to self: Don't send weapon bins to the outside trade depot without checking for the militia's gear first.
Never sell weapons.
Never sell weapons.
Melt them down for the King Dwarf's throne. Desc: made out of solid iron and menaces with iron swords, it is of the highest quality craftdwarfship.
3. How do you find shopkeepers? There's got to be a better way than running into every building and staring everyone down to determine their profession.
There are shops and shopkeepers only in towns. While fast traveling press m to cycle to a window that tells you what kind of buildings there are in the map tile you're in. Pay attention to the small symbol next to the names of any shops, that symbol will also be present as a sign on the street outside the shop. This also helps you to find wells (wells are way easier to find in hamlets). A town might have about 500 hundred wooden furniture stores and only one weapons store but iirc toady said once that he might "force" more shops that are interesting to players instead of "useful" stuff that the simulated critters want. A generic "metal crafts store" might only sell one type of metal craft too. like a shop that only stocks arrows.

I think we should do an FP succession fort when the new update is released.
I think we should do an FP succession fort when the new update is released.
Totally down for this. Even though it's usually me that fucks the fort up
Remember the curse
Remember the curse
We can do it this time, I swear
Remember the curse
When has anybody ever cared about curses?
I'd be up for it time dependant. Hopefully it doesn't die of FPS death due to bugged giant undead mosquitos.
I'm in!
ive played df for 1 hour total and barely know what is going on. im in.
I'm in.
i know how to make dwarfs dig, thats it.
Right now I'm contemplating making a atom smashing chamber because I'm experiencing FPS death from my 3K food and all the destroyed clothes/dead goblins I have. Actually I'll cook the food, smash the clothes, and leave the goblins outside as a warning.
ive played df for 1 hour total and barely know what is going on. im in.
Same here. (Not joining though) I've considered trying to learn the game more again sometime this summer. Emphasis on trying. I just go here to read the new posts. :v:
Giving this a go, rather enjoyable so far. First game i've played where a single wiki article explains basically everything I need to do to not mess up completely. Is there a way to plug holes left by removing a block i.e. if I change my mind about digging out a particular space, can I fill it in again, or perhaps replace soil walls with stone? Worried about whether or not I need to get the entrance done right the first time, or if I can fix it later.

They don't look silly, they just can't be engraved. Which sucks.
And they look silly because its a random smooth stone tile surrounded by dirt
