Traps block caravans now, so you have to be careful with them.
i make a wall hallway filled with traps and make a 3wide opening for a bridge past them. that way the caravan can bypass the traps
There are these rotting animals in my fortress that are just sitting there and I can not move them anywhere.
There are these rotting animals in my fortress that are just sitting there and I can not move them anywhere.
do you have a refuse/corpse stockpile?
There are these rotting animals in my fortress that are just sitting there and I can not move them anywhere.
You have to tell your dwarves to gather refuse from outside via their [o]rders list, in the [r]efuse section.
[editline]7th April 2013[/editline]
Also have to have a refuse/corpse stockpile as listed above.

Grow a beard, get some dirty old clothes (helmet too), acquire pickaxe and mushrooms.
Go straight up to their door, yell like a viking and throw mushrooms in an attempt to lodge them in their skulls. DO IT.

Dude are you five or something? Dwarf GIRLS at your age are starting to get stubble.

They are born with full beardage.

Doesn't matter
Cut someone elses beard off and glue it to your face

That has to be the ultimate crime in all of Dwarf Fortress. (Unless its from a human, but why would a dwarf need a puny human beard in the first place?)

It's up there
But I think the ultimate crime goes to making non alcoholic booze
I just had a dwarven child in Masterwork get kicked to death by a tarantula.
Devlog from before that article:
There have been a lot of DF Talky, pressy and taxy things going on (with all the events scheduled for later, this may end up being one of the busier months on record non-programming-wise), but I managed to get most of the way through pulping as well as making some strides toward the definitive hydra test. For pulping, I just need to hit a bunch of things in the arena now to get the numbers to feel correct. Once a key body part is pulped, associated corpses won't be able to be re-animated. If a dwarf gets hit enough times to have a part pulped and still survives, which is reasonably extreme, they can still recover, since pulping isn't actually a state of being, just an accumulation of enough serious wounds -- if enough of the serious wounds heal, the dwarf can recover, but it's likely to be a mess of multiple horrifying fractures and nerve damage and so on. The "hit points" for animated creatures that were a band-aid for the damage problem have been removed.
Does that mean no more getting raped by hundreds of zombie hands?
Does that mean no more getting raped by hundreds of zombie hands?
It means they'll die a little easier, at least, and stay dead.
And if you smashed them to death in the first place you won't have to deal with them animating in the first place.
Embarked on a new world, no rivers, just stagnant water. Only thing I can really see to hunt around my area are ravens and my dwarves don't seem to be hunting at all or the ravens aren't around at all. Drinks are steadily decreasing, no meat, no fish. Should I quit and try to find a river or something? I always seem to do best on them.
You could just farm.
You could just farm.
And dig down to the caverns and fish/harvest plants down there.
I simply restarted and made an entirely better world. Hate how about 80% of my world is always aquifers though.
[editline]8th April 2013[/editline]
Also is there a way for dwarves to always pick up the bolts they use instead of me going to the actual bolt and allowing them to use it?

You can disable aquifers
They serve no purpose

They're free water/drainage, though. Usually not worth the cost to breach it, but they have their uses.

They are hilarious, full of uses and fun.
Some of my dwarves went kinda insane and killed about 5 other dwarves. My militia commander went into the hospital area to sleep but my captain kept trying to get in the hospital as well. So I tried to move the captain using the Squad Move option and then the captain went inside and started to attack the commander. He kills the commander then goes to lie down on a different bed in the hospital and he bleeds out or something because he died a few seconds after. Kinda funny. Also for some reason the stairs became clogged as one dwarf tried to crossbow one another dwarf who was about 10 squares away and it took about 5 minutes before one died.
[editline]8th April 2013[/editline]
Also. I might have brought this up earlier in the thread but killing the merchants and removing the depot is a good way to get free stuff. This time the merchant said I had too much stuff to give him, so my hammerdwarves killed both merchants and now I have 300+ booze when I was empty for the about the last two seasons.
What does it mean if I wake up in adventure mode and my group of friends are gone?
Did they just fuck off, or did they get stolen away and eaten or something?
Because I'm alone in the mountains, and I can't find them anywhere.
[editline]9th April 2013[/editline]
I killed an overlord necromancer and then bogeymen ate me, at least I died a hero.
[editline]9th April 2013[/editline]
According to legends mode, he literally never did anything evil.
He never killed anyone, all he did was marry a necromancer, make some allies and enemies, and then was killed by me.
That's a bit disappointing.
Also is there a way for dwarves to always pick up the bolts they use instead of me going to the actual bolt and allowing them to use it?
Go to your [o]rders list, in the [f]orbid section. There's an option there to automatically forbid/reclaim bolts.

Killing them is a great way to piss off their civilization. Just letting them dump all their stuff into your depot and then deconstructing it will get you their stuff. Doing this will reduce the amount they bring to trade with you, since they came back without profit. I always steal the first dwarven caravan's stuff to help me stay floating, but after that I start producing stuff to sell for everything else.
New devlog:
It looks like the hydra is working correctly. Two heads snatched a lower arm a piece and then shook around and ripped them off at the same time. It's reasonably dangerous. The heads can each choose a different style of attack that have different times to strike and recover, so they get pleasantly out of sync as they roil around. The attacks are marked in the raws as independent so the hydra doesn't suffer a multi-attack penalty (which encourages the AI to go ahead with them as well). I also hacked apart a lot of undead corpses and skins and things to test that out, and it seems to be working fine. Next up'll be some tweaks to non-lethal combat damage and yielding, which'll get us out of combat and back to other things.
The image of a hydra ripping both of a guys arms off at once with its heads is pretty gruesome, but exactly what I expect from DF.
I wonder if you can get megabeasts with like 16 heads ripping through your armies like they were nothing
