That's pretty much all power is good for in the simple scale. Which says a lot that fucking pump stacks are 'simple.'
Pump stacks aren't really all that complex, it's just that they're such a goddamn trial of monotony to get up and running, the amount of repetition involved in laying out the designations is enough to completely shut down your higher functions before you even get to the construction aspect proper
I'm new and I just installed the newb pack but every time I start the game, it changes my whole system resolution to 800*600 and I have to manually change it back. Did I miss a setting?

Awesome, everything is working. Now the three hour seminar on how to play the damn thing.
well first attempt at sky fortress looks like it will end in disaster all the dwarves live in squabble because there's only time to build the skyfortress, so when I forgot to dig an up ramp for my miners they died of dehydration and are causing a tantrum spiral looks like I gotta reclaim [editline]4th June 2014[/editline] well now I definitely need to reclaim, just lost like 20 dwarves *note, do not mass-designate removing constructions that are floating
Is there any way to make a farm on the roof of my buildings?
I have no idea if it'll work on wood floors, but stone floors I know you can dump water on to spread mud. I had a big project I was doing in my orc game that was like 200-300 tiles square where I did just that. [editline]4th June 2014[/editline] To be perfectly honest, I cheated and used DFhack to spawn water because I really did not want to build a second level.
Also the fact that you cannot build walls on top of floors is incredibly annoying.
Floors automatically generate on top of walls, and you can 'float' walls so long as they have an anchor somewhere in a surrounding tile. You can deconstruct the floor and replace it with a wall. I've done that a few times before.
I know that, it's just annoying, especially if you mess up planning. Then you have to deconstruct the new walls, reconstruct the floors, then deconstruct the other floors, then reconstruct the walls.
i'm still trying to generate non-euclidean geometry using floating walls and all i have to show for it are multiple paralyzed masons
Nothing like spending several hours overdesigning a new fortress in what you thought was a relatively calm embark site only to be sieged by several dozen zombies 30 minutes later. [editline]4th June 2014[/editline] I can't catch a break with this place FFS

If (and correct me if I'm wrong) 'Tower' is listed, that means there is a necromancer nearby who will most likely besiege you.

I still have to change Leavescreen to space in the init files, Esc just doesn't feel the same.
Pff, that's the fun part.
Yeah just didn't expect it so soon into the game I got not 1 but 2 necromancers captured from the ordeal. And that weresloth carcass ended up furnishing those who died in the zombie attack's tomb look pretty nice [editline]4th June 2014[/editline] question. Will that skeleton disappear after some amount of time? I'd rather it not.
Skeletons never go away. Prepare to be spooked.
I hope there aren't too many game breaking bugs on release of DF2014, but of course there will be, and it will take months to fix..
I hope there aren't too many game breaking bugs on release of DF2014, but of course there will be, and it will take months to fix..
Don't worry. We have a projected release of end of this month / next month, so df2014 will be released probably around October or November, and by then at least three bugs will have been fixed.
A weregecko has come. Do I throw my military at it or do I run everyone inside and cower?
It's a werecritter. They're a threat for like five minutes and then they turn back and run off.
Awww yeah, one of the Dorks built an artifact mechanism just as I was ready to finally make my well. Time to make all my dwarves 100% happier. [editline]4th June 2014[/editline] Also the fact that a well can reach from 23 Z-levels up into the air down to a cistern adjacent to the cavern lakes about 15 Z-levels down is pretty hilarious.
How come whenever I try and get into DF after around 5 minutes I end up just sitting there going "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh", Its like any time I tried and get into programming, its fun for 5 minutes then I get extremely bored.
I'd like it if planting farms on non-soil surfaces incorporated irrigation at the construction stage i.e. the material requirement for it when placed on non-soil would incorporate a cost of water and buckets. I guess that's just because of sheer laziness on my part, though.

Else it's going to take a lot of trial and error.
I enjoyed the trial and error part Nothin' says fun like finding out that warm stone means magma and flooding and entire fortress with burning death
Awww yeaaa, on one of my rare underground patrols of the water system, I discovered a forgotten beast. Killed it, made loads of meat and tallow and bolts out of its remains. Then, a few years later, I found another one, and my marksdwarves killed it with Forgotten Beast Bone Bolts! Awesome!
So, any guesses on what the usurper of the Giant Sponge's throne will be this update?
