Are there octopi in vanilla DF?
With the coming update and multiple arm attacks simultaneously I must definitely mod in killer octopi
because terrifying biomes just weren't fucking over your fishermen enough already
Survey time: ASCII(Stock or square) or picture tilesets? Agree for ASCII, Disagree for pictograms. I prefer pictograms myself.
I prefer non euclidean tilesets my self.

Personal preference.

I like ASCII, there's something charming about it.

I've gotten used to ASCII in a lot of Roguelikes as I've gotten more experienced with them, but I've already learned to use the tilesets in some of my early games like DF and NetHack so I feel most comfortable with them.
Well actually I use Vulture for NetHack/SLASH'EM, but that's beside the point.

I personally don't understand the appeal of playing non-square ASCII. I always mess up the dimensions of rooms when I use it. To each their own though
I've just embarked in a desert area after my previous aboveground fortress fell to the very first invasion. It's a desert area, in the middle-eastern area of this map, and it's called Oilcarnage. Time to spread some democracy!

80x24 terminal elitism is the only reason
I started using tilesets to get into the game, I'm just accustom to it now
Cooz's square ascii ftw

I know this has been said many times, but since its summer and i have lots of free time I want to get into Dwarf Fortress. I know an update is close but i have nothing else to do. What mods and tile sets would you guys suggest?
I personally use Phobeus as a tileset, Jollybastion is good too though. As for mods I'm not really sure.

I'd recommend going with the Lazy Newb Pack if you're trying to learn the game
Are catacombs sometimes inaccessible in towns? I have three separate quests to kill creatures in a catacomb called Depresspit but i cant seem to find it. I've gone through the entire basement area of the castle with no luck and when i go to where it says on the map its just a couple random houses on the outskirts of town. Is there any other way to get into the catacombs?

I love it when things like this happen, which force me to go outside my comfort zone and leave my fortifications.

The fort as in the one at the center of town? I thought I checked out everywhere in the basement but ill go have another look around, there has to be something considering there are 3 different entities that i need to kill there. I read that there can be temples in towns too? That can have catacombs beneath them but I couldnt find one in the fast travel details

Don't forget to change the colour scheme to natural for much more pleasing colours/less eye rape.
http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/v0.31:Color_scheme#.22Natural.22_scheme
The color scheme data is located in the color.txt file, found in the Dwarf Fortress/data/init folder.
once you go natural you ain't ever coming back to default
So i just went ahead and installed LazyNewb pack and after 4 or so hours i was still doing the basics of the wikis "quickstart". Thankfully nothing major has happened to my dwarfs yet.

Something about DFs glaring eye rape feels like home to me though.

you know what would go good with that article, ingame pictures.
hey new players, I recommend not downloading lazynewbpack, and instead download PeridexisErrant's starter pack. It's basically the same as lazynewbpack, but with some more stuff. also it has mac and linux versions if you're into that
Can't wait for early July.

Many tantrum spirals
many funs
I don't even use therapist.
I can barely function without therapist, it's like my heroin
