So I was experimenting with dwarves and dragons and what happens when you combine them in the arena field. So, five dwarves, all proficient dodgers, armor, shield, and sword users, all armed with full on adamantine armor and weaponry and shields, vs. one dragon. The INSTANT I pressed space, three of their arms blew off from dragon fire and they could no longer use their swords. The fight has been going on now for a while with them just punching the dragon. One of the dwarves just punched out all of the dragons teeth in one hit. And it is dead. Time to encase our victorious dwarves in lava.
One of the dwarves just punched out all of the dragons teeth in one hit.
What the hell is the Mountain doing in DF? :v:
Map stuff, I agree, is complex. But the animals, plants, etc? That is just depth IMO. They serve no real purpose, they don't make the game difficult to understand (besides checking what the hell they are when you first see them), and all that jazz. Personally I think the only reason DF can make tons of animals and plants and all that jazz is simply because they don't have actual graphics, where a game like Stonehearth they can take an hour to make a very small cuboidal model look decent (and much longer for bigger things; I know, I used to make those models for fun). Rimworld needs sprites, Maia needs moderately complex 3D models, etc. And they also all need music and sound effects. Dwarf Fortress has none of that, meaning they can easily install more 'depth' in the form of animals, races, tools, weapons, etc. and its easy(ish) to mod. But once you get past all that, the game is relatively simple. Sure, lots of stuff are more indepth than they look (trading, for instance), but the groundwork is pretty basic. Except for the combat, that shit is surreal, but still, proper 3D animations can go a long way in a different game to make combat look interesting.
Whereas other games might have complexity in presentation, DF has minimalistic presentation but complex simulation.
Masterful adamanium blood thorn
Upon research on bay12 forum I've been informed that adamantium does the best piercing damage but there is a glitch with ballistas in that they deal blunt damage only and end up being incredibly ineffective due their properties. 5 shots at a dog got most of him mangled but that was it. I tried my hand at aqueducts The plan was simple, draw the water from the aquifer tiles in the corner of my map into the cisterns using a series of wind-powered pumps and tunnels Then I noticed there was no wind and wound up making a power plant with six water reactors and a power transfer system much larger than I originally intended Unfortunately I forgot to include a shutdown for my water reactors so they're eating up my FPS, I need to overload them and force a shutdown

Shutting them down was actually pretty easy, I just dropped floor hatches on the intake tiles and then hooked those up to a pair of levers As an added bonus, I discovered a vampire in my fort, so now they're sealed in the powerplant as its eternal mechanic I don't think his fellow undying appreciated the gesture, however, as there's now some necromancers and three pages worth of undead minions crowding around outside my surface tower
the most disturbing part of that gif is the single random frame of what looks to be entirely dead creatures including dwarves?
ignore that. that's nothing ........ move along
I'm deeply disturbed by it.
It's just a glimpse of the things sure to follow in a fort with ballistas
It's just a glimpse of the things sure to follow in a fort with ballistas
You have seen my refuse stockpiles not once have I got a Ballista to work.
Hey how do I mod the block making reaction? I want to change it so that I get 4 blocks out wood instead of 1 from a single wood log, but I can't find anything in the raws.
My guess is that you'll have to make a custom reaction from scratch.
I finally got around to breaching the caverns I've killed three forgotten beasts at the cost of over half my militia and a smattering of civilian Dorfs, and now there's a spitting beast and a fire-breathing beast camped outside the door Basically, everywhere that is not the interior of Stoppedclasps is filled with horrible monsters out to kill you

The only FBs I've actually seen, IIRC. She beat one to death barehanded, and insta-killed the other two with a whip.

The Thing: Dwarf Fortress edition
The Thing: Dwarf Fortress edition
That would actually be quite a fun thing.
It's not particularly exciting but the name makes it cool as hell. The Volcano Of Disembowelment is my new album name.
Has anybody gotten a download of starterpack r59? I gotta try this stonesense nonsense
It's not particularly exciting but the name makes it cool as hell. The Volcano Of Disembowelment is my new album name.
Cages are perfect for making dwarves happy. Specifically, I always put one in my dining hall and put every non-grazing baby animal, male bird, and basically anything else that I can tame in it until I need them. Only thing exempt are war animals, vermin catchers, pets because I can't cage them, and egg layers.

What the hell... I can't smelt magnetite ore. It just isn't in the options at all.
