Were-Gecko just attacked my fortress, he turned back into a goblin right as he came in the front door which had my 5 sword-dwarfs on the other side. rip
I just used therapist to weed out the dwarves I didn't want to draft with nicknames.
Also dear god this vampire is getting on my nerves, no one ever sees him in the act despite me forcing everyone to sleep and eat in the same room just to try and catch it
Get on the mumble and I'll teach you how to vampire hunt.
First migrant wave came in. Up to 16 dwarves with 9 children. Not a single working dwarf. Time for a fucking dwarven day care.
I never started using mods so I'll be fine for the update *smugface*
you poor bastard
For a danger room, how does adding more weapons to traps affect it? Does it make it 10x more deadly?
If you're using anything that isn't training spears you are doing it wrong. Also its upright spear traps no weapons traps.
Danger rooms are for sissies. Just make an arena, release a bunch of unarmed goblins in it, then release a bunch of militia with adamantine hammers into it or something to beat the gobbos up for a few months. Or give the gobbos weapons and your dwarves real weapons and the survivors join the military. Danger rooms are cheap.
This is for my day care center. I'm hoping to weed out most of these useless fucking children and maybe ending up with some halfway-useful survivors.
Get on the mumble and I'll teach you how to vampire hunt.
...We have a mumble? [editline]7th July 2014[/editline] Also, my danger rooms have steel spears. Got on my level scrubs. Only the strongest survive.
dwarf fortress ladies and gentlemen the home of "use babies as catapult ammo" and "kill all the fluffy kittens and babies"
Well if the little shits wouldn't drink the very last of my booze I wouldn't mind them so much, but they consume as much as an adult and give hardly anything back to the community so into the spikes they go.
im not gunna play fort mode on update day because i dont know how to play without dwarf therapist, and it would mean no dfhack either like how do you people play without it when a new update comes out
I rarely use DF mods. Been using dDwarf Therapist a few times, but I didn't really find it that essential. I've cheated a few times though using that ore reveal thing :v:
The only time I use ore reveal is to confirm that my map has iron ore. Even then I won't stop playing on the map if it doesnt. If you're map has no ore then you simply have to wait for the goblinite to start rolling in.
This volcano map is actually literally the first time I've found Iron ore, and it's fucking everywhere. I'm so excited I can finally make good weapons without importing the materials.
Volcano maps are usually really hard to set up a steel industry on though. Most of the time they lack both flux and coal. At least in sedimentary layer map you have the flux and the coal and you can eventually get the iron from caravans/goblins. There you have to completely rely on the caravans for flux and coal.

I've found plenty of flux on volcano maps before, but it's true that if you don't have any you get kinda fucked.

can you actually make lava yourself if there somehow isn't any available to you?
What the fuck I have 11 vampires that migrated to my fortress.
So I had 26 dwarves including 10 children. A migrant wave just came in, now I'm at 70 dwarves with 35 fucking useless children! What the fuck?! I set the child cap at 10:10! Fucking hell, my day care center will now have iron spears and that's the end of it. I'm fucking sick of these useless shits, and I don't have the resources to constantly deal with them when I'm trying to work on my volcano house.
can you actually make lava yourself if there somehow isn't any available to you?
Only through dfhack, no magic lava production method. That said, there is supposed to always be the magma sea, though I imagine with buggy shenanigans, it is possible for it to not exist.

Build a room where the entire floor is one big drawbridge. Then set up a floodgated duct that transports lava. 2.) When a siege arrives, herd all the children into the room. 3.) Open the floodgate for a split second so the children set on fire, but nothing is melted. You now have a massive catapult that uses flaming children (and their belongings) as a grapeshot.
Every single time I've tried to 'launch' things with a drawbridge it just atom smashes them.
I really hope by next week he meant Tuesday because I can't wait for the update. It'd really suck to get it on Friday.
Every single time I've tried to 'launch' things with a drawbridge it just atom smashes them.
And that's the failsafe. If it works, you get flaming child shotgun. If it atom smashes, your child problem is gone without a trace. If a bug flies into the mechanisms and jams the bridge, you get a dumphole full of rabid children. Once the children are all inside, you literally could not go wrong!

And so the drawbridge deconstructs immediately, raining burning child corpses onto whatever is below. Which is, of course, your meeting hall where a party is being held. You underestimate the possibilities on just how it can go wrong.
I wonder if we could play tennis using children and drawbridges....
I wonder if we could play tennis using children and drawbridges....
The Child goes flying! The Child smashes into Bridge 1! The Child goes flying! The Child smashes into Bridge 2! The child goes flying!
