Apparently interpretive dance is not an effective way of defending yourself
Oh god.
I genned a world and began a human hero, a peasant who worshiped the god of murder. The starting tidbit mentioned abducted children, and I couldn't figure out how to ask more about that with the person in the shop with me (i started out as a shopkeeper I guess?). I left the conversation, went outside, and tried to start a conversation with my deity. Crash.
I love this game. THESE CONVERSATION OPTIONS!
Yeah, conversations with deities seem to crash the game
these trees are fucking huge, I could make a giant tree house if I wasn't trying to not die right now.
World gen is crazier than hell now. Elves took control of two fortresses in a mountain. Goblins are violently encroaching into human territory. There are 3 necromancer towers. And this whole mess ended in the Twilight Age.

They're goddamn amazing, I need to find a jungle so I can travel exclusively through the treetops

Become the dwarven Tarzan that your heart yearns for.
I'm a casual worshiper of Par, the god of food.
mmm delicious.
Is it just me or is worldgen excruciatingly slow now?
Is it just me or is worldgen excruciatingly slow now?
Mine crashed at year 447.
Might have something to do with it being a large, 1050-year world with savagery turned up to high, but that's just me.
Trying to generate a Large Short world with medium everything except minerals which is Frequent. It's been placing minerals for the past fifteen minutes.
My animals are "Overcome with terror!" on embark and I can't figure out why.
So far no million huge Mosquito nests, so we're doing better than 2012.

Let's do this you beardless shits.
People are a little psychic as it regards ongoing conflicts, so that they can make decisions non-stupidly.
which in Toadyspeak means, according to my past hour spent playing Adventure mode,
even though you've spent six years waiting for me to remove the hivemind everyone in town will know that you threw a rock at a farmer in pitch black midnight on the complete other side of the hamlet.
where would those poor defenseless archers and swordsmen be without their oft used distress pheremone sacs?

on the bright side fortress mode is fucking amazing so
For those who wonder what the new trees are like:

All those logs were from like, four trees. The weird symbols in my hallway and shit are roots, no idea what I can do with those.
This game is on my list of things that I have to try to get into.
The graphics look terrifying, and I've no idea how you're able to deduct anything from it.
Guess I'll find out eventually.
It's not hard when you really look at it.
Green is grass, a triangle means it's a ramp up (so like a hill), blue to the right is a river, the teal is open air (so it's downhill from there)
Anything else with a solid background, AKA the stuff near my Dwarves (the smiley faces) are walls.
[editline]7th July 2014[/editline]
Also Raspberry bushes are the new mosquitoes I think.

After a while, you just begin to see the matrix, yaknow what I mean?
I started out as a guard for a dwarf fortress, and as I was exploring the fortress I entered a dining hall and shouted "It sure is dark down here!"
this update is the best thing ever.
i updated "orkel's" tileset in the OP for the new update (i'm sure he would've uploaded it later himself anyways)
there were only a few options in the init that needed transferring
and i removed all of the superfluous junk from the zip
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31450527/DF/DFSquareASCII.zip
pretty much the only thing i can't play without.
also slowly genning a new world for the first time in like a year~

You guys need to check out the testing area. It's super fleshed-out now. It's a bit long to say everything, but I'll say that i'm a super sneaky vampire that can see the lifeforce of my terrified prey.
I threw an elf and now I have no idea where it went.
Time to crack open notepad and re-add all those custom races.
I added custom races, once.
:(
One of my only complains about this update is that it takes forever for the world to update when you start adventure mode, but that'll probably be fixed.

I wonder if toady is still bothered by that time everyone was preforming merpeople genocide in the name of profit.
This game, from these stories, must be unfathomably complex under those weak visuals. :v:

A single 4chan post about DF got me more emotional than 99% of the movies I watch.
Amazing.

They're not weak.
