so old worlds tend to turn into a wasteland of zombies and necromansers? that's something I must try.
Just remembered that I learned about Dwarf Fortress from an issue of Game Informer in like 2007. That's kind of odd to think about.
I'm playing for the first time. I don't know how to play. It is terrifying.
Out of curiosity can societies develop over the time of a world or are the initial foundations basically all there will be? I.E if a world's only civilization is Dorfs no pesky elves will spring up?

Hence how the world can progress to the Age of the Dwarves or whatever. New nations of an existing species can pop up though. Case-in-point, I think that monarch problem I had before might not be a bug. I might just be starting my forts so far from any other dwarven civilization that the game immediately promotes my fort to a city-state. Explains why the dwarven caravans never have liaisons as well.
I'll get the hang of this adventurer business one day. Started up as an outsider human in Loathedstone, asked about troubles and was told of a necromancer tower to the south. Why didn't I listen to this thread. Fuck buzzards, especially dead ones.
all my 1050 old worlds end up being goblin-dominated for some reason, with dwarves being first to completely disappear
They should make use of the agreements in log so you can "agree" to go kill things that way it'll be easier to keep track of something.
Yeeah, watch out for climbing invaders now, though if you are going to fortress mode I'd suggest you wait for a few more bugfixes, I know how it feels like to get attached to a fort and have in be corrupted or incompatible with new versions.
Can all invaders climb, or is there a height limit or something i can do to prevent them from just scaling my walls short of making a complete box?
This helps a lot, although it's not perfect. Note, if you're using 34.11, click that in the version nav near the top. And I suggest using 34.11 because having seen the menus I'd have to use otherwise, I am in love with Dwarf Therapist and understand why everyone moans about how they can't go back to the labor menu since everything broke with the update. And I say this having only just started playing myself. Remember to bring an anvil when you embark, or trade for one when the first caravan arrives in the autumn. Choose a calm or wilderness location and you shouldn't get attacked by anything significant for the first year while you learn how to cope with the tons of menus.
I went into some hamlet, killed some farmers, went travelling and got rekt by boogiemen :v:
I went into some hamlet, killed some farmers, went travelling and got rekt by boogiemen :v:
Pretty much the same thing I did when I played adventure mode for the first time, pissed off entire village, even chickens wanted my blood.
Can all invaders climb, or is there a height limit or something i can do to prevent them from just scaling my walls short of making a complete box?
smooth your walls or make walls out of blocks not raw stone
I'm currently standing in a house with multiple people. My companion is standing next to me listing dragons, goblins, bandits, forest titans. You name it. And without fail, every time he mentions one, everyone in the house says IN UNISON "It is terrifying." It's been going on for hours now, I mean what. [editline]Right Now :o[/editline] I WANT TO GO TO SLEEP SHUT UP ALREADY.
or make walls out of blocks not raw stone
i did that and they still climbed over it
have you tried making a ledge out of floor tiles, like a T shape?
So can larger invaders throw smaller invaders over walls yet Cause that better be a feature
have you tried making a ledge out of floor tiles, like a T shape?
I was considering doing that but with fortifications edit: also Lolor just went insane after I lost like 5 people to a siege and subsequent a werebeast attack

It was inevitable.
It was inevitable.
fuck
Interesting fact, but as an adventurer you can jump through fortifications. I know because I entertained myself for a while as an Elf by commiting suicide from an elven watchtower. It took me a few tries before I actually collided with something.
When I'm asking for direction it says I receive a detailed description, but where do I actually see that description? Also I'm not sure what to make out of Traveling, I'm looking for some town I think.
Can we change the thread banner to
Yes Yes we can
Yes Yes we can
Well shit, didn't think you'd actually say yes :v:. Want me to redo all the banners or something while I'm here?
Well shit, didn't think you'd actually say yes :v:. Want me to redo all the banners or something while I'm here?
Sure, The current ones are a little dated. Hell the whole op is a little dated, I've just been too busy to update it.
i need tips on fishing a corpse out of a river
i need tips on fishing a corpse out of a river
If its just a dead dwarf and you don't want ghosts, simply make a plaque for him.
i need tips on fishing a corpse out of a river
Ridiculously difficult bordering on impossible. Ideally if your river freezes you want to wait for it to freeze and set up floodgates at where it enters the map, so you can block the flow if need be. Freezing will destroy any items in the same tile, though. [editline]11th July 2014[/editline] Therefore this is really just something for later.
If its just a dead dwarf and you don't want ghosts, simply make a plaque for him.
how, i've got ghosts all up in my militia's barracks edit: alright i got it, so that's what slabs are for
Speaking of rivers, has anyone tested whether giant sponges are still the Armok of the sea? Also Liem, you replied right as I left my comp, so I'll PM you the stuff next time I can.
