is there any way i can make humans able to make steel armor and arms through raw editing? iron is cool and all, but i lust for steel.
It's a shame but it sounds like Toady won't be fixing the 'piles of bodies' bug in game right now. It pretty much makes adventure impossible to play due to rekt framerates.
I found a dwarf fortress that has only 4 dwarves (that I could find), two children, a peasant, and a farmer. everything was empty in the fortress, the only workshop I could find was a magma forge at the very bottom floor.
Thank you for this information, I'm now going to change how I start out drastically. I can use roads to avoid making flooring on the first floor (humans in Adventurer usually have clay/dirt floors as well.) and I can also make wooden blocks for building, which I can mass produce at the start. I also assume since carpenter is the skill used for wooden walls/floors mass production at the start using all workers will result in them building faster.
Unless he changed it in this version, wood blocks are made 1:1. The only advantage wooden blocks gives is it makes smooth constructions.
I started an adventure as a cyclops since the top post cleared up how to play as other creatures. I spawned in the middle of a dwarven mine, stabbed a dwarf in the head with a spear, threw that into another one's lung, and then punched the third and final one in the immediate area across the room which resulted in him dying on impact with the other wall. I fucking love this so much. I can apparently bite a dwarf's entire lower body off too.
Humans in a camp had spread various pieces of armour around, and I managed to get together a relatively complete set of iron armour. Then I drowned.
Unless he changed it in this version, wood blocks are made 1:1. The only advantage wooden blocks gives is it makes smooth constructions.
That's a pretty big advantage, since it prevents invaders from climbing them.
So if I got shot by webs in adventure mode how do I get out of them? I tried doing the advanced interaction because I thought maybe I could cut myself out but it was no use.
Does anybody know of any third party programs which scrubs the xml dumps produced by Legends mode to create a better interface for figuring out what's going on? I know it was probably Toady's intention on producing legends mode the way it is to allow third party devs and modders make something he doesn't feel he has the time to work on right now. It currently has maps which track influence over long periods of time but it would be cool to have all sorts of filters and lists which add onto the map view where you can look at one civilization and see every war they ever were a part of, how many rulers they had, overall win/loss ratio over the course of it's duration, maybe you could step through each year and see a much more finely detailed map view of when exactly influence changes towards a different civilization and then you can get a breakdown of the events which happened at that one moment in time. It could be a big project adding lots of functionality and pretty stuff/map overlays but it's still simple enough it would be a pretty trivial program for anyone to work on as a little project.

[editline]14th July 2014[/editline] ADRE SHANKLANDS, LETS DO THIS [editline]14th July 2014[/editline] Okay so there's a criminal organization holed up in a temple to Duslud Nutsvalleys the Goldenrod Gorge named "The Windy Temple" so I'm headed there
Decided to try adventure mode, stabbed someone in the head with a spear, was shotgun fed arrows by one bowman after throwing my copper dagger into his leg.
Pretty much exactly what Legends Viewer does. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=72702.0
oh my god why didn't I search for this earlier, like 2 years ago. This is great.

dead
Mike Mayday is back in the tileset-making scene. So happy.

Can someone mod in a Shotgun crossbow? [editline]13th July 2014[/editline] Please
Tried adventure again, was a human and the first thing I learn? The fucking lady of the town is a vampire that killed some merchant. So I roll on up into that bitch like, "fucking creature of the night!" And then we fought to the death, I threw my spear into her neck, it lodged firmly in the wound, grabbed her throat, choked her, slit her throat with my large copper dagger and then took my spear back. After declaring my self lord of this new establishment, I proceeded to murder a goblin merchant who blatantly attacked some dorf planter in this large fucking mess of dorf planters that was there for some reason. Of course this caused some sort of civil war between planters, merchants and a few axemen that were totally cool with me killing the lady earlier. In the end, I died because I sprinted and jumped off a nearby cliff into the fighting mob trying to crowd surf like any great rockstar would, and was promptly beaten down by planters after I accidentally landed on one. It was inevitable.
Can someone mod in a Shotgun crossbow? [editline]13th July 2014[/editline] Please
unfortunately modding isn't that powerful but you can mod the crossbow to fire at ten times normal velocity
unfortunately modding isn't that powerful but you can mod the crossbow to fire at ten times normal velocity
Can I mod crossbows to be one hand weapons so I can duel wield crossbows?
I wonder if we'll ever get more advanced ranged weapon targeting I wanna throw rocks at people's kidneys, I wanna shoot crossbows into people's eyes [editline]Hyenas[/editline]
Can I mod crossbows to be one hand weapons so I can duel wield crossbows?
I'm pretty sure they already are, but the way shooting works prevents you from firing two at once
Can I mod crossbows to be one hand weapons so I can duel wield crossbows?
they're already one handed weapons I haven't modded in a while but duel wielding anything other than shields is impossible I'm pretty sure. A creature can carry one weapon + a shield for every extra hand
Welp, there goes my ninja duel wielding crossbow character idea
So I finally decided to [del]kill myself[/del] try Dwarf Fortress, main thing I know is that I need a tileset so the game isn't like translating an eldritch tome. Is there any that you expert-like folks would recommend? Also, general non-"dying is fun" tips would be helpful.

[editline]13th July 2014[/editline] and I'm pretty sure it's been updated

The problem with running small worlds is that there aren't any large towns, and I really need to find merchants because I almost always get shot in the leg/back and need to buy crutches
One of my workers cut a tree near an aquifer, got hit by a log, fell unconscious down the aquifer, and drowned. I'm not even going to memorialize that fuck because everyone would laugh if they knew.
