So I just noticed the ability to specify the type of attack you want, e.g. fast, heavy, wild, etc. Using this, I was approached by bogeymen and I actually managed to quick attack one with a halberd and kill it (that is, before I got swarmed and punched in the eyelids to death)
Is the new version stable enough for some proper Fortress mode, or should i hold off diving into it?
Out of curiosity since people have been saying they've gotten Kings possibly from being too far from their Civ, does this result in a new civilization as well?

Not sure how well it actually fares as a nation though, as all my fort-states haven't made it to retirement. As a side note, I just realised that a fort could be killed when it was just two weeks from retirement.

No clue what happened, but apparently I got 25 Migrants that somehow snuck into the Fortress on the second year. I now have 42 Migrants. Seriously what the fuck just happened. EDIT: Even more fun, the Siege Operator went into a strange mood and decided to make a Fireplace. What is the Fireplace made out of? Wood. "This is a gnarled roots fireplace, All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with oval pure galena, cabochons and encircled with bands of oval gnarled roots cabochons. This object menaces with spikes of basalt."
I'm trying to enjoy Adventurer mode but everything is super confusing. I went around killing an entire village of people but got bored because no one even tried to give a shit about their loved ones dying next to them.
Has anyone based themselves around trying to live like the subterranean people?
What is peoples record on lifetime in Adventure mode? I haven't gotten that much into Adventure mode yet, but it seems like being a rogue like game where you die a lot, and often. Could you be alive for a many play sessions if you just played right way?
I have a problem in df2014 fortress mode. I have made a still, and i have a brewerdorf, and a lot of plump helmets, but i still cant make alcohol from them. I have enabled it in the kitchen tab, but it still doesnt work

Trying to empty out your current ones is a pain so I'd just get a carpenter on that (or have craftdwarfs make stone pots).
Stone pots are better as they store significantly more than barrels.
[del]Huh, I always thought it was the other way around and it's just that pots were much easier to make. Suppose I'll take your word and see the raws.[/del] Seems you were right, pots are 60000 storage space, barrels are 30000. My bad! Pots reign supreme in storage.
Of course, pots are also heavier.
By a ridiculously marginal amount. Due to the weight shaving, only pots made of the heaviest materials will affect dwarf movement speed by a noticeable amount.
Thanks, i had somehow over the pause i had with the game forgot that you needed barrels to make alcohol.
Uh-oh. One of my dwarves is looking very pale (flashing red + on white), status says she "sustained major injuries", yet the wound screen shows all limbs white. Said dwarf also shows no interest in my hospital.
Before I killed it I had a Fae Dog run straight into my Fort and linger around the Dining Rooms before heading into the Statue Garden where about 30 of the Dwarves where and bit someone. It then started running all over the fortress before dying due to a hail of bolts. It was Faery funny.

I think I have a suspect. The dwarf in question is 140 years old, has 5 social skills on "Professional", and most importantly, has a husband that is not in my fortress (But then again I have a lot of socially skilled dwarves) Says she dined in a great dining room recently (where I found the unconscious, but alive, dwarf victim), no word on booze though. No kills. What do? Oh, and I also happen to have a Weaver dwarf in a fey mood but he refuses to take any workshop. Aren't they supposed to use looms?
oh god oh no an EVIL CLOUD

There are multiple ways to check for a vampire, the easiest being DFhack - although if you're using the latest version you obviously don't have that. Dwarf Therapist can be used via giving a dwarf a nickname and checking if the last name matches up both ingame and in Therapist. Alternatively, you can just atom smash anyone you think might be.
oh god oh no an EVIL CLOUD
I've never got why Dwarves love milk and honey rain. Everything is just going to smell like bad milk and be extremely sticky in a day.
One of those huge 2 tile thick trees just crushed both my woodcutters, then a Coati Man stole a wooden wheelbarrow and crashed the game... This fortress got off to a good start! (But what did I expect, embarking next to a brook called 'BladeMonsters')
I've never got why Dwarves love milk and honey rain. Everything is just going to smell like bad milk and be extremely sticky in a day.
maybe dwarves like that

Fortress mode is fucking bullshit, no wonder why I was god mode as an adventurer, everyone was too scared to kill me. :l
Apparently the name of the succubi civilization is 'The Demons of Squirting' fitting
How do dwarves react to seeing things walk into horrifying things like say a trap hallway consisting of 400 serrated silver discs ,on another somewhat related note whats the best way to make a waterfall of blood, I have 100 barrels of blood and it seems fitting.
As far as I'm aware, blood is still not a proper liquid like water. It cannot be used to create any sort of liquid with proper depth, just puddles. The best you could do is dump it into a reservoir to use for a waterfall, but that would just spread the blood around.
