Shit that was supposed to merge posts darn Edit: Are you shitting me
So I added the ability to shoot dragonfire to my playable bronze colossus and somehow I've caused someone to "get caught in a burst of boiling human blood" while providing free heating to the residents of a small human hamlet. Oops.
I gave my Dorfs the ability to breathe dragonfire once I neglected to make them fireproof
Is gold useful for anything besides trading? Like, can I make effective weapons out of it? I need some whips, so would it be a decent metal for whips? Or is it just shit?

In theory I believe due its mass it's better than silver for blunt weapons, but because by default you can't use it to make equipment it doesn't really matter.
I gave my Dorfs the ability to breathe dragonfire once I neglected to make them fireproof
So you created flawed Dragonborns?

Time for some gold-plated motherfucking whips up in this bitch.
So you created flawed Dragonborns?
I created what the Dragonborn would have been if he had melted himself the first time he shouted
So after making a bunch of golden thongs and whips for my shiny BDSM army I got a goblin caravan they have no goods. They didn't even bring a fucking cart. You worthless penises. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline] aaaaaaand an elven ambush. Glad I literally just shut my gates. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline] wow that was quick lost no military succubi, most of the elves fell in cage traps, now I have a punch of prisoners to seduce/strip of supplies and throw into a fighting pit. They DID kill like all of the fort pets though. Because all Succubi pets are very aggressive creatures, like two-headed guard dogs, tentacle monsters, etc. and they just charged out of the fort to fight them. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline] Their leader (was riding a war unicorn) tried to run away. A succubus whipped him in half. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline] The aftermath :
I created what the Dragonborn would have been if he had melted himself the first time he shouted
YOL TOOR SHAAAARGH!
post more stories guys!
Whenever one of my dwarves reach Legendary status, I'll give them a nickname. But I have so little creativity, that I choose to give them regular name. So my Legendary carpenter became a Baron recently. His name.... is TIM! Tim the Baron. 1:07
Is it possible to view a map in adventure mode? The wiki says to press "m", but that only asks me about swimming preferences.
You need to Travel first
Man starting out as a dwarf in a fortress is not fun. I got out, but now I'm stuck in a boring cavern with spider-webs everywhere and no animals, enemies or anything. I'm soon running out of cat blood and corpses which I use for sustenance.
You need to Travel first
Or view the Quest log thing
How come 4 years 7 dwarves? Didnt you get any migrations? You should also make a large front door consisting a huge square bridge with alever in the dining room, to lock down the fort when elves attacked
None of my dwarfs ever touched the surface. Guess no one knew we were down there. " hahaha we sent blah dwarfs to start a fort on a thawing river... hahaha" " Did they make it?" "Havent heard from them." It was like year 5 when I started. I came in threw river when frozen, barely able to get under ground. The only access ti the edge was the river the surface was 10+ z lvls up. Only time I has acess to map edge was briefly in winter when river froze. Aka, no one to see anything down there. Elf merchants finally showed, decontructed robbed them. They left and almost immeditly came back n butchered us. King showed up first migration wave On one fort. With a clother a farmer and a fisherdwarf. Fisherdwarf = Militia. Love the new milita system. Toss everyone at the Merchant yak that went crazy cus it git stuck in a tree. Who ever engages enemy remains in squad and gets armor. Now merchants are leaving goods at my depot, or a bug where they will not leave. And after a tantrum spiral my mayor and a kid only surrvivors. Damn Yak bull.
How do you start with a frozen river that thaws later? Cold biome? I have an idea for a fortress. Create two separate forts. One that can only be accessed when the river is frozen(because the only entrance is under the river) and an aboveground fortress. Make every other migrant wave go to the river fortress and the others the aboveground one. Let's see which one lasts longer. Also anger every non-dwarven civilization there is.
Since things move by weeks now you can embark in winter.
Most times I end up with frozen stuff right off. Then I got to turn temp and weather back on to let it thaw. That river fort thing is an Interesting Idea. If I could make One self sustained fort I would try it.
Since .40.x is still riddled with bugs (some of them pretty annoying) I'm considering switching back to .34.11 instead.

Holy shit. Goblinite is great, but Dwarfinite and Elvenite are pretty great too. One piece of Mithril Root armor is worth like 1500 to a trader.

Why are my dorfs not hauling items to their appropriate stockpiles? What could i have missed? All the furniture is just sitting in the workshop despite the big furniture stockpile just across the hall >:(
Is Fortress Mode good enough to play yet? Been playing Adventurer mainly, but would love to sink my teeth into a fort. New combat system (I don't even know if it's new, I haven't played Adventure mode in years) is fantastic. Pulling off tricky decapitations is glorious. Praise Armok.
Why are my dorfs not hauling items to their appropriate stockpiles? What could i have missed? All the furniture is just sitting in the workshop despite the big furniture stockpile just across the hall >:(
Having the same problem right now, though I suspect it is at least in part due to there being way too much stuff to do around the fort (too many jobs generated and not enough people to do them all?). I had a wood stockpile that was largely ignored for a month but after the haulers finished some other stuff they got to it. And then they started hauling beds to my bedroom level, which have also been waiting there for a month.
oh dear, i think theres a vampire in my fortress one of my dwarves found her husband dead in their bedroom they had a kid too, what the fuck vampire well at least i have a sick precious fire opal coffin that a moody dwarf made to bury him in
oh dear, i think theres a vampire in my fortress one of my dwarves found her husband dead in their bedroom they had a kid too, what the fuck vampire
Every vampire knows that tragic blood is the sweetest blood
yeah well he's got an atom smasher with his name on it when i catch 'em
Guys what do I do about corpses in my fortress? One of my dorfs went berserk and strangled himself or something, and I don't know how to bury him or make a gravestone.
Guys what do I do about corpses in my fortress? One of my dorfs went berserk and strangled himself or something, and I don't know how to bury him or make a gravestone.
option 1) craft a coffin (mason's workshop) or a casket (carpenter's workshop), then build -> burial receptacle, then q-> use for burial (Y). option 2) craft a slab (mason's) then engrave slab (craftsdwarfs i think). This is for when the body can not be retrieved. In unrelated news, I have been besieged by the undead. They have been hanging out at the edje of the map for a year now. Just standing there, not paying any attention to open gates and dwarves frollicing outside. On one hand, no caravans or goblins, on the other hand, no annoying immigrants, so I actually have some time to sort out my economy before more people arrive.
