For some reason, it seems that instead of marking things as dead everything is missing, even if Dwarves stop everything they're doing because they're horrified of the body every five minutes.

I got a failed mood and the Dorf dropped into melancholy and eventually dehydrated in the middle of one of the larger meeting areas
Basically shut down the entire fortress until everyone calmed the fuck down
Having the same problem right now, though I suspect it is at least in part due to there being way too much stuff to do around the fort (too many jobs generated and not enough people to do them all?). I had a wood stockpile that was largely ignored for a month but after the haulers finished some other stuff they got to it. And then they started hauling beds to my bedroom level, which have also been waiting there for a month.
I have a bunch of idle dwarves and they don't help. I feel like it's a bug.
Now all my dorfs are dehydrated, what do I do about that?

Make more buckets if you don't have enough and designate a water source using [i].
I keep trying to get into adventure mode but end up walking around trying to find a fort, and then picking up a couple companions but then getting bored because I can't find anything to do. Whenever I ask someone about their problems, they point me to some other dude, but I can never find the second guy so I never know where to go for the fights :tinfoil:
Is there some trick to locating these guys? Also I'm having a really hard time locating town and forts on the map, a lot of the time I move over to what looks like a town, stop, and then spend 20 minutes running around trying to find the town.
[editline]19th July 2014[/editline]
I did find some wildlife though, and had lots of fun beating them to death with my fists and throwing their bodies around.
Let's say a certain citizen of my fort is completely uncontrollable. He's currently outside, rubbing against the map's edge. I need to put him in a cage, alive and relatively unharmed, so that I may transport him into the fortress... for science.
Any ideas?

Wall him a specific path directly into a testing chamber.

Alternatively, check that your river hasn't just frozen over. If it has, you'll have to build a still using [b],[w],[l] and get to brewing ASAP, as it might just be your only liquid for the winter.
To avoid this in the future, build a well using [b],[l] and dig out a reasonably large cistern underneath it. Water that's underground never freezes, and in the long run, it'll insure that you have a large water supply when you get sieged.
The succubi civilization in my new world calls itself "The Steely Anuses"
I'm not sure they get how to be seductive.
so will giants eventually get bored and fuck off like sieges do
this is important

I like Succubi.
At least half of all migrants you get will have decent military skills, and nearly ALL migrants will be amazing persuaders, negotiators, liars, etc.
Also you have a pet that you can get from traders/embark that you can shear for a horn that I believe is an amazing weapons metal.

The only time I got a giant a hunter walking by while pursuing a giant Kea punched its legs crippling it and walked away, then a caravan guard walked halfway across the map cut its arms off and then beheaded it.
Caravan guards scare me I think they only get sent to my fort because they like slaughtering ambushes .3 huge caravans showed up at once the goblins obviously thought attacking a small army of guards was the best plan after it was down to one crippled fleeing goblin he tried crawling away and right into a Weapon trap loaded with 10 masterpiece Serrated silver discs.

I am partial to Sergals myself, they are tough buggers and view elves as a food source.

that is really neat.
I have 1400 units of several types of wine and beer.
How do I cleverly stock this in key positions in my fort? I don't want to remove my old stockpile, so is there a smart way to make them prioritize the new stockpiles?
Set up a main alcohol stockpile, then have other stockpiles taking alcohol from the main stockpile. It should prioritise filling up the secondary stockpiles IIRC.
Or a minecart system that solely exists to bring booze to various regions
Do it.

oh jesus tracks are confusing
I'd offer advice but I have no clue past making a simple 2 stop line. :v:
Should probably play some dorf fort, not actually played it in a while, been so busy.
Is it just me or are all my Dwarves nervous wrecks.
I'm trying to make a stone-haul minecart track and it's going good actually... but making one with multiple levels and turns seems frustrating
Warp stones in Masterworks are really infuriating :v: killed like 20 mining dwarves, eventually one dwarf got so upset he started punching everyone to death.
Is there any way of minimizing the damage unstable warp stones do?

You can turn them off.
Apparently Succubi like warpstone, and it gives them happy thoughts.

[sp]How effective is atomsmashing vs the clowns? They can't destroy bauxite drawbridges/mechanisms with their custard pies, right? I'm imagining some very dwarfy system of drawbridges here.. hmm[/sp]
