I always wondered why and how a race of mighty warlocks always died out within 20 years during world gen (Masterwork). I genned a new world and stopped after one year of history, just to play as warlocks. Within a single season my only warlock (Spawned with 1 warlock, 2 ghouls and 4 skeleton servants) starves himself to death because he was very unhappy from having to talk to a annoying skeleton in the rain, and the lack of grates in the fortress. No wonder these mighty spoiled sorcerer brats die out so fast. They singlehandedly create more drama than Shakespeare ever did

So My mayor got pissy because I haven't built his quarters yet and then some poor sap violated a production order and he fucking lost it, he threw a tantrum by the wells A very violent tantrum that involved shooting and killing at least twelve Dorfs and a chicken He's not the mayor anymore and I'm pondering just how I'm going to execute the sonofabitch
Good god, this resolution is unacceptable, and changing the WINDOWEDX:80 to anything else doesn't noticeably change anything. Is there anything that could help this?

[WINDOWEDX:80] If this is below 256, this specifies the width of the grid used by Dwarf Fortress with a minimum of 80. As such, the width of the window used will be the product of this value and the width of the font used. If this value is 256 or above, it specifies the width of the window used directly. [WINDOWEDY:25] If this is below 256, this specifies the height of the grid used by Dwarf Fortress with a minimum of 25. As such, the height of the window used will be the product of this value and the height of the font use. If this value is 256 or above, it specifies the height of the window used directly. [WINDOWEDX:98][WINDOWEDY:98] will make window big enough to display whole 2x2 embark site with 8x8 tileset.
if the width (X) isn't big enough for the tileset you're using to fit the entire normal playfield, then it'll scale everything and look terrible. for a 16x16 you'll need something ≥1280px width, and ≥320px height. for 8x8 the requirements would obviously be cut in half i often roll with [WINDOWEDX:1280][WINDOWEDY:720] and a 16x16 tileset for 720p videos so basically just downsize your tileset or increase your window size (you can just maximize it too) and the horrid scaling will go away

EDIT: Ah-ha! I've figured it out! As it turns out, using the unique item and entity sprites with the launcher results in Masterwork using some horrifying hybrid between regular ASCII symbols and Masterwork symbols, causing it to use the regular Masterwork resolution regardless of what resolution I used. Thanks for the info!
So I just forgot water pressure existed and creating a underground water supply turned into a titanic like scenario where water started sprouting up in the middle of my civilian fort and everyone got trapped in their homes while slowly the entire city filled up, and a couple of spiders decided to snoop around just at that time and ruined every salvage operation. Eventually hunger and being trapped caused a tantrum cascade resulting in dwarfs beating their family to death, or tearing down the door that stood between them and the water. The dwarves that were outside of the living district had to seal it off, only being successful after 3 attempts. The guilt of sealing all the others to die caused a second tantrum cascade that ended rather quickly when a tantruming dwarf tore down the door that formed the seal in the midst of the fighting. I don't even understand in my previous fort the underground supply worked perfectly what happened. I guess I'll try warlocks again then :v:
Mod in war chickens to the save Have lots of war chickens and that bastard in a fighting pit (Though I dont know if thats possible)
It's not likely to have anything happen, since war animals don't attack nonviolent members of their own civilization. You'd have to wait until the mayor goes berserk again, or use invaders.
I was gonna use him to test some new danger room designs but he died of starvation on top of the keep before I could finish them
Is it normal that it took me 8 IRL days to get to the end of year 2, and I still only have 64 dwarves? :v:
Any tips for boosting FPS? I have disabled temperature and rain.
Is it normal that it took me 8 IRL days to get to the end of year 2, and I still only have 64 dwarves? :v:
Number of immigrants relates directly to the amount of dorfbucks you gained since the last caravan arrived, if you want more just make a shitton of metal crafts/giant sawblades.
There was a mod for that, performance improvement something Found It:Accelerated DF, just look at masterwork megathread's bottom
No version for 2014 I think.
Checked now, they say theyll wait 2014 to be stable
Darn. Anyone know what to do about starving pets?
Darn. Anyone know what to do about starving pets?
toss a coin and decide which of two hungry pets get converted into a single healthy pet
coin a coin and decide which of two hungry pets get converted into a single healthy pet
Actually I'm pretty sure they just eat grass. Problem is, I have a meeting area outside, so they can eat the grass, but the dwarves have stomped the grass to peat... [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] Ok the game crashed after more than an hour of gameplay. I'll just wait for Masterwork to come out. [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] Unless someone knows a trick to get more than 30 fuckin' FPS
Why does my mason go to the lowest mined level to get a rock to work instead of getting the ones right next to his workshop? It's like the furthest the rock is, the better the frogman statue he makes with it is. In what level should I find iron ores? I'm already 10 levels underground and all I have is a shitton of useless amethyst and other gems. Traders are so cluttered with corpses and buyable things I can't sell them more than 5 amethysts before they start caring about their poor beasts.
oh dear, i think theres a vampire in my fortress one of my dwarves found her husband dead in their bedroom they had a kid too, what the fuck vampire well at least i have a sick precious fire opal coffin that a moody dwarf made to bury him in
That's a coffin fit for the king's royal mausoleum. It shouldn't be wasted on a mere peasant.
Why does my mason go to the lowest mined level to get a rock to work instead of getting the ones right next to his workshop? It's like the furthest the rock is, the better the frogman statue he makes with it is.
Make a rock stockpile near the workshop. [q]uery the stockpile, then have it [g]ive to the mason's workshop. Unless I'm forgetting a step, this means that the workshop can only use materials from that stockpile. Be aware that if this stockpile is empty you will get job cancellation errors, even if there is a non-stockpiled rock a few feet away. Also be aware that some jobs require multiple materials (like brewing, which requires both a plant and a barrel); to avoid job cancellation spam you need to either make your feeder stockpile allow all of the necessary materials, or else you need to link another stockpile that contains what the dwarf needs.
Are whips still op as fuck? Some goblin just slashed my adventurers heart killing him almost instantly. How does that even work? edit: I don't think he was even some grandmaster. Just some bandit's subordinate with a copper whip.
First time playing. Got everything up and running. Just moving everything into my underground fortress. Get an Alert. A necromancer with 2 undead human warriors/swordsmen and 2 undead axemen show up just as I get to the next season. I still only have 7 dwarfs but luckily for me the siege party just stays at the corner of the map. They just stay there so I am working on arming my dwarfs for a siege breaking dwarf team commando operators. This game is excellent.

I'm not sure if I should regret living in a calm jungle, the most dangerous animals around are lungfishes.

He was shortly taken out but there was so much blood. A good 10 tile long trail to what is now a porcupine skeleton.
Jesus Christ my dorfs just gave birth to eleven babies in a row.
Jesus Christ my dorfs just gave birth to eleven babies in a row.
That's a good thing, means more ammunition for the catapults.
That's a good thing, means more ammunition for the catapults.
I have to play this again.
That's a good thing, means more ammunition for the catapults.
Is that even possible?
[t]http://i.imgur.com/AvOqlOW.png[/t] Please help.
I don't understand, I have a farm plot that's fully sown, but I'm not getting any plump helmets. Why? Playing Masterwork

How do I tell if an area has sheer cliffs? I'd like to make a sheer cliff fortress.
