I made a trap that *might* trap any Titans or other trapavoid creatures in cages. Those spiders aren't fully domesticated, which is why I have a 1 tile drawbridge closed until a Titan or something appears. Then I'll open it, and hopefully the titan will be trapped in web and get caged. Then I'll do... something with it.
Am I the only one with framerate issues on 40.04? I get about 60 FPS with only 14 dwarfs on fortress mode, and on adventure mode I have an input lag of what feels like a full second.
So, I used Legends Viewer to look at a 250-year 34.11 world I generated. The usual this, the usual that, but something stuck out at me. Let me tell you about Unes Basingalls the Autumnal Clam. He is a moose demon born in the year -228, in the world of Ospazsmata, the Windy Realms. His early years were pretty insignificant. Unes spent his time before time wandering the underworld and doing nothing historically important. He escaped the underworld in the year 4 and settled in the cave Stakenights. By the summer of 11, Unes was in the dark fortress Demonred and he challenged goblin Kutsmob Leakysteals, the law-giver of goblin civilization The Nourishing Hell, to a duel. He struck her down and took over her job. The history books are quiet about Unes for a long stretch of time, only recording that he murdered three humans and three goblins in the fortress. He left Demonred in 184 when it fell to humans, arriving in the human hamlet of Busymagic. (Side note: Officially, a goblin, Tode Heldnightmares, was given the title of law-maker in 185. And was buried alive by the elves shortly after as they destroyed Demonred.) In 211 he became a refugee on the Rapid Hill, and in the early spring of 212 he settled down in the dark fortress of Ngebzokastrag, "Dreadfulstasis," reclaiming it for The Nourishing Hell. He is the only one there. The elves of The Amusing Vines declared war and attacked Dreadfulstasis the same spring, led by their princess, Nisa Wavedpoets. Nisa brought her husband and four of her six surviving children. This was Nisa's fourth war against the Nourishing Hell, and she had lost the last two of three. She should've learned. The Amusing Vines brought 799 elves, 169 grizzlies, 9 humans, and 25 assorted big cats, crocs, and giant moths, for a total of 1,002 units. On defense, only Unes. The only survivors were 40 named elves, including Nemo Teallulls, the only member of the Amusing Vines' royal family to attend the battle and survive. (He, along with the other two surviving children of Nisa, went to war with and were killed by Unes later.) The next summer, elven civilization The Alchemical Fells attacked Dreadfulstasis. The elves brought 1,643 attackers (1,281 elves, 275 grizzlies, 72 humans, 15 misc animals) against Unes and his five Olm Giant pets. The elves continued their tradition of sending a princess and her husband, along with two of her children. The elves lost 1,600, and Unes' Olm Giants were killed. Unes would go on to kill all nine of her surviving children in battles against the elves in Dreadfulstasis for the next 30 years. The Alchemical Fells attacked again in 214, 215, 219, 236, 243, and 245. The Amusing Vines declared war on The Nourishing Hell again and went to battle in 223, 225, and 228. Humans The Impervious Union attacked Dreadfulstasis in 248 and 249 as part of their war on the goblins which has been going on since 196. Unes won every single battle, with the only casualties being his Olm Giant, and later Giant Toad, pets, five each. Unes' war killcount is 13,764 between the years 212 and 249. In 193, The Nourishing Hell reclaimed the dark fortress Osmospstoslo, "Spiderytrapped," and it was then lost due to an unknown reason in 249. The civilization has gone extinct, except for one single settlement. The dark fortress Dreadfulstasis still stands and Unes Basingalls the Autumnal Clam is still undefeated.
you better start up adventure mode and go murder that guy
I just got eight births in a row, one right after the other Last I checked Armok was a god of blood not fertility stop porking you horny little shits
Going to need to be a hell of an adventurer. :v:
Throwing is crap in 34.11 right? Otherwise you could just throw crap at him and hope to get lucky.
Of course the first Titan I got is a web shooting titan, making my trap pointless. He's been webbing my Ogres and Spirit Bears repeatedly for about ten minutes now. [editline]26th July 2014[/editline] And nothing can kill it. Fucking glass giant won't take any damage other than fractures. Its killed most of the ogres. I'm not gunna sit here for twenty minutes while it coats the map in web.

I've only known less than twenty, and I've had a solid 8 FPS since I started playing again! Some of the bug fixes should make your life better in .05, so be patient, plus Toady hasn't tackled world optimization so there's that too. I might get up to a whole fifteen frames per second if everything gets optimized and then I'll really be cooking with gas! :D :D :D In all seriousness though, I tried to play Dwarf Fortress on a really badass computer a few years ago and everything was moving so fast. I found the experience extremely disturbing because I was used to telling my dwarves to do something and they'd be like "oh, alright," and slowly meander over to the task. This was.. this was like managing crack addicts and crystal meth tweakers, I could technically do it but it was uncomfortable. [editline]26th July 2014[/editline] Oh, cool. One of my dwarves just carved a figurine of another one of my dwarves, Vucar Punchquake. Why? She arrived in Blacklight. That's apparently worthy of an action figure or something.
yeah, first time I got to use DF on a better computer (and with lazy newb pack to raise max calculations FPS) I was just confused with all the dwarves just flashing around the map instantly.
You guys can limit FPS with LNP, just so you know. Graphical and gameplay FPS can be limited separately, too.
You guys can limit FPS with LNP, just so you know. Graphical and gameplay FPS can be limited separately, too.
You can also do it in the init.txt file, and also change the way your graphics card is used by the game. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with 2D right now. :l
How do I get rid of all the stone littering my fortress?
Make fuckloads of stone crafts, statues, and cabinets
Also blocks, blocks are good
Concentrate on making blocks, crafts, and mechanisms. Blocks for building. Crafts for making money. Mechanisms for building AND making money!
I still do the usual, make a 1x1 dumping spot and mark all stones for dumping. Unforbid them if you want to use them.
I still do the usual, make a 1x1 dumping spot and mark all stones for dumping. Unforbid them if you want to use them.
Best way to go about it when it comes to cleaning up your living areas. Later on I also end up making a stockpile for metal ores to consolidate them so I can be sure at a glance that my perpetual smelt jobs aren't sending my furnace operators down into the tunnels to slowly drag a single piece of ore back up 10 flights of stairs.
I'm getting just a little bit sick of trees popping up and growing through solid Z-levels, I keep having to patch holes in the ceiling of the soil layer of my fort as well as the outer wall and keep floors, and a tree just took out a well and a chunk of dining hall because the cistern it grew in wasn't quite full

What makes blocks so good? Do they have an increased wealth value over the raw material they are made out of?
I'm getting just a little bit sick of trees popping up and growing through solid Z-levels, I keep having to patch holes in the ceiling of the soil layer of my fort as well as the outer wall and keep floors, and a tree just took out a well and a chunk of dining hall because the cistern it grew in wasn't quite full
Natural disasters are finally in it seems [editline]26th July 2014[/editline]
What makes blocks so good? Do they have an increased wealth value over the raw material they are made out of?
1 stone makes 4 blocks, and each block is super light compared to the stone and works the same as the stone. So instead of a dwarf moving a big ass rock slowly to build one wall, you can have 4 dwarves move light blocks at running speed to build 4 walls in a fraction of the time.
What makes blocks so good? Do they have an increased wealth value over the raw material they are made out of?
One boulder produces 4 blocks which are lighter (faster to haul) and also building out of blocks is supposedly faster than out of boulders. Also yeah they're more valuable.
Natural disasters are finally in it seems
Natural disasters have always been in the game. It's just that angry clouds, twisted abominations from the depths of hell and elephants are all natural :v:. Also, don't turn all your boulders into blocks. AFAIK, they can't be used for things like finished goods when they're blocks.
Any decent minecart track designs to transport stone rocks from the depths of my quarry to the surface for quick and easy block-production? I like to put a massive block stockpile on the surface so my dwarves can construct megastructures easily. Also, how do I penetrate an aquifer? I set them to off in the init files but it didn't work. Aquifers fucking everywhere.

where can I find the config to change stuff like truetype and (calculation) FPS?
I kinda want to write up a guide on how to start up a proper Kobold fortress, since the Manuel for it in Masterwork is shitty, and figuring out the starting stuff is a big change of pace from a normal Dwarf Fort. You gotta bring some fire-proof building blocks with you in the beginning or you can't easily get clay, which means you'll end building things out of wood and deforest most of the map for a single large building. But if you make a Clay Oven (kiln) with the fireproof blocks, bam, innumerable amounts of building blocks. Also it took me a while to realize all the Kobold workshops were hidden inside a workshop called the 'tent.' You build a tent, then upgrade it into a specialty workshop. Larger tents/lodges for other workshops. Shit was confusing at first. So maybe an actual updated guide written up could clear that stuff up for people.
I wonder about the practicality of using a drawbridge to launch immigrants up into an aerial fortress should I try and experiment?
