does moving saves from a DF version with tileset to another DF with another tilset (or no special tileset) have any strange side effects, or will the world work fine in both versions with the only difference being looks? Ok holy shit its been about 9 hours and my fortress has truely become the Las Vegas of the dwarf world. Its now teeming to the brim with miasma, ghosts, lizardmen, and vampires, all which try to carve a niche into the absolutely nonexistant society. Only the strong survive and get to procreate like aphids, meaning I now have a group of terrifying people, who are all too happy to attack each other when they get bored. In fact, this mix is so volatile that they have been able to repel several goblin sieges with little effort, whilst annihilating the attacking forces. 4 trade caravan liasons have been brutally murdered, the other one has been imprisoned for no good reason. Almost every day another dwarf succumbs to insanity, adding fuel to the fire. But what a fire it is! Its having a steady population of about 400 dwarves and I have no idea how the fuck ive done this .
400 dwarves? why in gods name did you up the limit so high are you getting like 3 FPS

I havnet even touched it, and population is still expanding. I wonder if its a bug or its just a perfect storm. thats not 400 dwarves, you only have like 9 idlers are you confusing hundreds of cats showing up on the unit screen to dwarves, or accidentally counting dead dwarves as alive?

They still breed fast, but I'm fairly sure it takes longer for them to grow into adulthood, and IMHO its better to have a dozen or more jack rats than a tiny handful of giants. The tiny ones also have larger litter sizes, I believe.

What are idlers? I'm pretty new to dwarf fortress, and I have no idea what its supposed to mean considering how it just randomly fluctuates. Also when dwarf fortress unfreezes I'll try to screenshot the units screen.

Hows the modded Kobolds? I would like to add it to my menagerie of of races I have atm.

I have records of Kobolds on my current world that have lived Conan like lives of stealing from and killing many Goblins.

They won't trade with anyone but other kobolds because everyone is constantly at war with them. Which always confuses me, "oh no they stole a wheel of cheese, better break out the military." Though I did read that if Kobolds successfully steal from a fort like four times in a row they will besiege it with a squad of copper or leather equipped kobolds. [editline]28th July 2014[/editline] If you do play as them, though, you get a caravan practically every season from other kobolds. And lots of migrants. And children.

The only person that had even close to his stats was a high-master in all those. The problem is though, they were a kid too.

They don't need to drink, eat, nor sleep. Put them in a grand lever room or something. Werewolves are pretty useless though.

You could do 10 with an upright spear trap as the fall will stun them so they cant dodge. You either condemn them to an eternity of lever pulling and record keeping or you have a hammerer smash them to a pulp.

Not a big deal if you get one that demands something like beds, really shitty if you've got someone obsessed with something like anvils. Best way to do it is to have a short path leading out that also has a couple weapon traps and a cage trap at the end to be sure. Also makes it possible to deal with flying enemies. So anyways I just got done playing my first game and I plan on sticking with it but since this first hour has just been me learning, I don't really have much to say besides I see the appeal and the potentially huge amount of fun I can have with this game. I've just found out that the Lazy Newb Pack is really outdated, should I just stick with this anyways or is it paramount to update right here right now. Am I really missing much?
Yeah, I don't tolerate vampires or werethings because they simply cannot behave and they're really not that useful. I mean it would be nice if vampires would only drink what I tell them to drink or werecreatures would only go batshit crazy in combat, but... no, they do it whenever and wherever.
