I believe its all calculated as if you parried the world
And there are many strange people at b12
Man, ghouls are a pain in the ass. I don't wanna feed you freaky bastards. Should I make ghouls second-class citizens and segregate them from my pureblood warlocks?
If you haven't already relegated your legion of ghouls to be masons, engravers, and farmers, you have suffered for too long under your own minions.
Don't forget to coat your skellies in metal!
Fucking elves. I only just started melting iron in my first year of the fort nor got a single caravan from them and suddenly a siege. I managed to wall off the entrance with only one dwarf stuck outside because drinking from a puddle (while we had booze) was more important for him than life. I also got atleast two war dogs at the gate so if I get lucky, the elves will get scared from their barking.
Next time they get here (if there will be one) they will get fucked up and test my torture machines.
Realistically how safe is my fort down a flight of stairs with ~10 cage traps blocking the way in with some doors and stuff?
you'll find out
With that sorted then, does anyone know how to make Dynamos as gnomes in masterwork, I can't figure it out and the manual is kinda half useful.
What would be the most dwarven way of transporting magma up 150 z-levels?

minecarts or a pump stack?
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
oh great, the save which has the elves sieging me crashes the game when loading
fucking elves...
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
what should I do, start a completely new region and fort (usefull rating) or continue on a fairly old backup which works (informative rating)
i'm having problems getting much further than the basics, i don't really understand how militaries and weapons and such work, traps i have no clue on..
Oh man, migrant wave of 20 dwarfs at my 60 strong fortress. That megatower should go along nicely now.
Best part is, none of them are vampires!(Got one already and am thinking of just sealing him as a bookkeeper after he killed one of my founder miners.
Also, what's this about getting blocks faster?
Oh man I just love this game. Two of my squads were punching the shit out of a giant olm in a cave, it took so long because it was in small area were only a few could reach him.
I thought for myself why not let a miner dig up the area so more can reach it.
He gets to work and when finished he starts fighting the Olm and kills it quickly by lodging his pickaxe through its skull.
Moral of the story: Pickaxes kick ass.
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
candy pickaxe would probably be able to compete with the weapons
A forgotten beast ate one of my dwarves, but a recruit chopped off it's head before any more damage could be done.
Yay for competent-level military skills c:

For god sakes label levers.
For god sakes label levers.
Or dont, for !!FUN!!
Started a new fort after a couple of years, seems like it's as complex (and fun) as ever. I'm too tired to play right now, but I'll continue tomorrow. The outpost was named not at all ominously Shankboat, so I'm sure I'll have lots of fun with it.
Speaking of the succession fort, I'm still taking in requests to take part. As usual, PM me!
If anyone plans to play gnomes I found a really useful set of slides someone made for making the more complicated bits of gnomish engineering.

That would be too easy.
What can I do with shells? I've got an ungodly amount of shells

Help my gnomes do nothing but haul them to the refuse pile (Which is overflowing)
Make armor out of them in the craftsdwarf's workshop. Also save some of them in some vault inside your fort for any strange moods that might require shells.
And make a bigger refuse pile outside
My first sinister game and it is raining elf blood
How fascinatingly benign, a good omen
I want my money back
And that brigs us to an amazing part of the game, the fact that its free!
today i learned you can make digging designations through multiple z-levels
fuck
today i learned you can make digging designations through multiple z-levels

It works for every type of designation.
I'm really starting to miss DFHack mostly because digging under ponds is like eight hundred times more of a hassle without the reveal command
It works for every type of designation.
Dont do it with channel I dropped a few Z levels ontop of a miner.More horrifyingly after 2 years of bedrest they got up and started mining again.
God damnit after I sent out my military after a werepig some of the wounded turned and started a massacre. Then whatever was left of my fort was cleared out by the first goblin invasion. Man is it cool watching dwarfs getting shoked by the bloodbath scene and an injured dwarfchild mourning near his dad's corpse in the hospital.
Do your dwarfs turn if you don't clean their wounds or they do either way?
either way
I really need to get my understanding of a few aspects of dwarf fortress up to par.
For example I have no understanding of dwarvern justice systems, pit fall trap contraptions, minecarts and power systems, and all that craziness.
I also have no idea how to haul cages to places and what not with animals and I think theres a liquid hauling system with buckets that I also have no clue about.
Any enlightenment on any of that would be great!
