I do have to wonder how a fish person drowns, exactly
I tried to get a friend to play DF, but he went into the arena right off the bat, spawned squid people, then got angry and confused as to how they were drowning, and uninstalled it.

You better bury him before you have a ghost of a ghostly surgeon haunting your dwarves.
What
I now want to see the ghost of a ghost read a necromancy book and go back and raise its own corpse/ghost-corpse.
Hmm. I wonder if the bite of a werebeast can be used as an emergency last-resort medical procedure for highly valuable but disabled dwarves.

If you don't mind having a dwarf turn into a werebeast every once in a while and attack other dwarves, sure, when they transform they heal all their wounds.
I shouldn't have built my fortress in an area with deep metals. I'll have to sell encrusted crafts and buy the metals by myself.
does water touching the side of the map always dissapear or does it only do so when in a brook/river?

That's because you forgot to make ecto-cooler, dingus.

I look very forward to this. Got so much memory on this computer, but barely anything ever uses it while still complaining about not having enough memory :c
Just made a new fortress.
Name: Boltedimpales
This is going to be fun...

Jesus fuck that is wonderful.
I want to mod in a race of dwarves who all have four arms so I can make them grapple with two hands while to other two are free to punch. Is this possible, because I know antmen have four arms but i've never fought them to find out?
Just getting back into DF after a year
Wow. I was looking outside during season change on my fortress, and I saw the leaves fall off the trees.
That's brilliant, I love you toady
This game isn't multithreaded, right?
Is multithreading planned?
I have had two trees "randomly" cave in when a guy of mine happened to hang around there while on break. The first time he got flung up into another tree but jumped out before I could cut down the tree he was in to help him out :v:
I just got this game and i was wondering if any of you could recommend any guides, the OP is a wee bit outdated.

Maybe it'll happen in 5-10 years.

the dwarf fortress wiki
someone earlier said that linear guides are bad and I have to agree. Dwarf Fortress is a good game because you can follow the steps of something but unexpected things still happen.
It's not as hard as some people think it is to start playing, if you go to the dwarf fortress wiki you can just look up mechanics that confuse you, or if that doesn't help this thread is super helpful.
Is there a tutorial on how to get Stonesence with the updated graphics and mouse support to work? I cant seem to find any.
This game isn't multithreaded, right?

As far as I recall someone once asked and it's not multithreaded because it'd take ages to refactor the code to a form that's easily parallelisable.
I'd like to play the new version, but how is it on bugs and such? I remember when some versions were completely unplayable due to a few huge bugs, but is that true for this recent version?

Ok I got it working, it's great having two extra hands to hold things. My adventurer spawns with no clothes though and the game crashes when I try to read the characters description.
I need four axes so I can throw them all
Edit: Oh dear I can't seem to punch either, anyone know why?

It'd probably be easier to reconfigure DF to use GPU processing, on top of that cpu's are getting more and more powerful, single threading isn't really an issue for DF like it would be a few years ago.

I agree. I think the quickstart guide initially helped me to understand concepts but you need to go your own way very fast, and figure your own solutions to problems that arise.

it ended up fucking off for like ten seconds and then turned into a lizard woman
I thought it was supposed to turn into a giraffe
v:v:v
the lizard woman is a weregiraffe
just jumping all around the animal kingdom there
So I'm not sure if I'm late, but apparently, when digging to look for the caverns, your miner has a chance to try mine from the cave in, resulting in him canceling the designation and showing you where the edge of the unrevealed cavern is.
