I got my first attack ever. From a weretortoise who taught me to fear the night. Fortunately his bloodlust was sated by a pet goat and my faithful Brewer and then he fled back north across the river. How do I force dwarves and animals inside my fortress when I have some advanced warning of approaching danger? I tries cancelling all jobs and setting a meeting area inside the fort to be the only active zone but it did nothing and the only one to follow my order was my metalsmith who was already safe and his two pet dogs.

Looks like Mayday with alternate Dorfs
Looks like Mayday with alternate Dorfs
Phoebus' dwarves at least.
I have no idea what I'm doing and holy shit this is fun.
I have no idea what I'm doing and holy shit this is fun.
Just you wait until your fort is besieged by giant scaly demon asses that have a penchant for crushing dwarves and just won't die.
That feeling when you wait eight months for a fire-breathing quadruped made of fire to take the bait and begin his move up to the surface, and then he gets stuck on the table instead... (for those of you who don't know this, a building destroyer can't actually destroy things from a directly adjacent tile, but still tries)
I'm gunna try and make a fort attract the king dorf. I've never got the king to my fort before, so this will be a first.
well fuck, 50 dwarfs died within 10 minutes... that was all of my dwarfs. god damn forgotten beasts
Just you wait until your fort is besieged by giant scaly demon asses that have a penchant for crushing dwarves and just won't die.
and then it got it's brain smashed by a kid with a spoon
I've never used Dwarf Therapist because I'm afraid it might actually make playing the game enjoyable.
So first time retireing forts. Finished fort, had queen, BA fort, gonna upload this one. Well retired and found out I was last part of my kingdom. Started a fort, got it hopping real quick, retiered, reclaimed computers oldfort, played with the, farming failed, no water. Made new fort and retiered that. Reclaimed first fort. Great condition! No queen and only 11 dwarves, alot of dogs, some pigs, couple turkeys. It appears only my military stayed. Ooh well apparently the elf merchant stuck in the tree means we are no longer at war. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] Ooh, finally got a champion, and it keeps changing.
what tileset/colorset is that?
Its mayday. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline]
Testing the new bolts and arrows in the arena. It feels pretty good. Iron bolts go through copper like butter like they should, but iron armor will block iron bolts very often. Steel armor seems impervious to iron bolts. Basically, the whole bolt/armor penetration seems more like the other weapons rather than raping everything with anything. Goes through shittier materials, sometimes goes through equal material and are foam darts against better materials.
Time for immortal slade warriors.
Its mayday. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] Time for immortal slade warriors.
... who collapse from exhaustion after taking a single step :v: Now immortal vampire slade warriors, on the other hand...
... who collapse from exhaustion after taking a single step :v: Now immortal vampire slade warriors, on the other hand...
Now no one darith throw a tantrum, or thou shalt face the wrath of my army!
Upcoming patch notes:
Happy birthday to Zach! Removed some stale invasion data preventing further invasions Stopped dwarves from breeding like animals, technically speaking Made diplomats search for civ-level land-holders properly Fixed some path buffering problems that could screw up neighbor list etc. Gave not-you civs range of 30 path-wise for neighbor status on embark (towers still 10) Fixed color display problem in civ list
We're getting working invasions soon :D
FTL did it to me, my crew was all my close friends and Gabe Newell who sealed a hull breach with his body.
Its called the dorf effect
[...] may help prevent the development of traumatic memories.
So you know, just play more dwarf fortress to forget about the horrible deaths of your previous fortress. Is dwarf therapist and dfhack working for the new version?
Its called the dorf effect
Oh my god. I suffer Dorf Effect.
Success! Finally coaxed it to the surface, ready to be weaponized against the ever-present elven menace. "Nusko Uteshistrir: A huge quadruped composed of flame. It has large mandibles and it undulates rhythmically. Beware its poisonous vapors!"
Does anyone know if DFhack is compatible with the current version?
Does anyone know if DFhack is compatible with the current version?
I'm pretty sure its not yet. [editline]6th August 2014[/editline] I'm thinking of doing this, from the dwarf fortress wikipedia:
Create an aboveground walled fortress in a freezing climate with guard towers, barracks, housing, and armories. Dig a long ramp downward and add a large mining network below the surface. Make some small military squads to guard the camp. Designate the lower levels as workshops, and when migrants arrive, assign them to the mines. Give the workers minimal food and only water (no booze, booze is for the hypocritical decadence of Dwarkuta's leaders). Have them haul the stone and metal they mine back to the surface and ship the raw materials off to the Motherland. Import only food, booze, weapons, fuel, and other necessities.

I'm pretty sure its not yet. [editline]6th August 2014[/editline] I'm thinking of doing this, from the dwarf fortress wikipedia:
Well, I just attempted this. Haunted tundra. Everything was going ok for the first few seasons, a house was built and food was being grown. The mining operation was moving fast. I had a nice wall around the base. Then I ran out of food, so i butchered one of the horses. This was a large mistake. Next thing I know the horse body instantly comes to life, kills my farmer and military. This pale, dead horse then proceeds to climb up the wall of my base and just trots around on top of the wall, scaring the fuck out of everyone. Everyone died.
horse then proceeds to climb up the wall of my base
God this makes no goddamn sense, but climbing is such a damn good addition to the game.

Here's a crazy mod idea: A civilization composed entirely of children. When someone grows up, they are exiled. Their population would grow solely through baby-snatching. Edit: The monarch's name is Peter Pan.
Its called the dorf effect
I remember back when I got BF3 and mostly played Assault for a few days. I saw the revive icon whenever I closed my eyes.
So I have an undead cow hair running around my fortress. It can't do damage to anything and miners/marksdorfs can't do damage to it. What do I do to stop it? It just keeps interrupting every job by tickling my dorfs. Edit: Undead Cow Hair caused a tantrum. Whole fortress is now undead. Welppp. Time to restart.
zombie body parts should at least have some muscle tissue in it to be zombified zombie skin and zombie hair is just silly
A single undead cowhair caused the end of a fortress, that's hilarious :v:
